I moved to a new town a couple weeks ago. Clarendon. It's pretty tough.
Thank you to BJ and Q for their co-starring roles once again. And to the people of Arlington who I ran into (literally and figuratively) in the process of filming. Oh yes, and thanks to Ally the dog!

LYRICS
Just moved to a new hood
and it's straight up gangsta
Let me show you around...
my town
People all around
better know the deal
that the people in this town
are ghetto for real
So when people tell me
Remy, where you calling from?
I say a straight up thug town
called Arlington
It's a real tough town
packing heat and boat shoes
my crib's in a rough spot
right next to the Whole Foods
I'm ducking gunfire daily
check to see if one got me
but that's just life in the hood
when I go get my puffed kashi
But we never do drugs
no, cuz that's not me
the only thing high up in here
are my condo fees
Welcome to Arlington
the town that never fizzles
Ballston, Rosslyn, Courthouse
the Clizzledizzle
So many places to choose
you're gonna like to pick
I'm in Courthouse so much that
they call me Michael Vick
And Rosslyn girls got money
they all can pay the bills
but that's all I'll film in Rosslyn
cuz I hate walking up these hills
and we kinda got a mall
yeah you know you can't stop us
got everything but nothing good, man
it's kinda like tapas
Just try to mess with us
I'll shoot you right in the foot punk
Just don't come on Tuesday nights
that's when I meet with my book club
Okay, I don't really read
when I buy books it's kinda causal
"Ah, you read Salinger?"
Nah, my kitchen table wobbles
Ducking down instictively
in gunshots we're mired
Wait nevermind, somebody's
German luxury car just backfired
Think you're leaving alive
yeah you do but I don't buy it
I'll gonna eliminate you
like I did gluten from my diet
Come and see me in an alley
Run'll be what you're wishing
Bustin out my fightin moves
like the fetal position
But first I need some cover
y'all gotta help me this way
Cover? You need backup?
Nah punk, it's for my duvet!
Straight thug hood
getting mugged on the go go
but muggings here is when
a stranger comes and gives you coco
Got a lot of bad girls
Got a lot of tough dudes
Our school of hard knocks
was written up in US News
We got dudes in brown flip flops
and dudes in brown flip flops
holy crap, why are all these dudes
wearing brown flip flops??
Welcome to A-town...
5pm hit the gym
even if I'm feelin crappy
But first I walk my tiny dog
with a little plastic baggy
Stretch in front of folks around me
so they know that I'm invested
and press the button for the lobby
even if somebody pressed it
I go jogging
At a reasonable pace
and when I get to intersections man
I jog in place
Up in Gold's Gym
gonna give it my all, son
So many dudes here
they should call this Ballston
Rollin one deep
so everybody can see us
Cruising down Wilson
all up in my Prius
Get out the car
check my shoe and sock a minute
Stand right back up
I got seven parking tickets
In DC from the get go
head to the metro
You heading to Whitlow's?
Hmm, maybe, I guess so...
Ride's never boring I say it's never better than
Riding on an orange line
train to Vienna
You better step back punk
that's your final warning?
You gonna punch me?
Nah, son, the doors are closing!
What's with this delay?
I can't wait for this
Why'd they pick today
to do this track maintenance?
Now we're stuck in the city
how we getting back son?
We could take the green line...
Ehh...
So we're taking a taxi
Back to our gangsta world
Where the sidewalks brick
and the streets are curbed
So if you think you got the cred
and you think your toughness got me
come and see me in my town
and we'll grab a cup of coffee
At the Starbucks, or the Starbucks...
This was made a literal decade ago and this is still relevant.
the starbucks are only growing
And there is actual crime in Arlington now!
Aww. Pre coronavirus. Good times
oh my god yes. especially the starbucks and the brown flipflops one
A-Town will never change
Its 2020 and everything he raps about is true, valid and current.
I agree, except for the Walgreens, Car Pool and Hard Times... But we did get a few more Starbucks!
He made it to brown nation on netflix
Mark B. Thank god you got more Starbucks
@@ewgrossnotveryepic7208 the funny thing is, I don't like their coffee but I have an effectively bottomless account there since I get Starbucks gift cards every month at work. I am still searching for a coffee there I like. The doppio espresso is ok at best.
Are there still all the brown flip flops? I think the night life fashion has changed a little in Clarendon, especially since the Ballroom closed. Less bros, bit more diverse crowd.
This tune just popped into my head after 12 years so I had to see if I could dig this up. Still holds up.
Other than taking a taxi vs calling an Uber, this is still 100% relevant and brilliant 14 years later 😂😂😂
15 years later and this is still extremely accurate
Five years later and this video is still funny because it's still accurate.
It's sad but it's better than if the place turned into a deserted hood like most of flyover country. South Arlington is a bit more humble but it's gentrifying as well.
zyxwut321
Got your brown flip flops?
Ernest Allen
Not right now. It's the middle of winter. :)
zyxwut321 Touche. :-P
In Maryland, at least in the Baltimore burbs, it's cargo shorts and brown flip flops 365 days a year
Remy, you're hilarious. I remember when I saw this in 2009 while living in DC and I thought it was funny then, but now I actually live in Arlington and my old apartment is in this video, it's 10x more funny now. You're a genius. I have to say, the response to "we could take the green line" is quite possibly one of the most clever things about it. well done man. Someone posted your Dog Money video on Linkedin today and I was like "hey, i know that guY!" good to see you still making content out here. You should consider creating it there... lots of eyeballs to be had... if a schmuck like me can get 10m views / year, you can get 100
I used to work at the Barnes & Nobles in Clarendon, they actually do have book club meetings every Tuesday nights haha
^ Barnes & Noble.
This premiered when I was a young post-grad who just moved to Arlington. I loved it. I still do. It’s 2021.
"Get out the car check my shoe and sock a minute.
Stand right back up...
I got seven parking tickets!"
Lmao!!! Spot on!
A decade later (still a bop) and not much has changed... except for like the gentrification of Columbia Pike, but yeah the brown flip flops have stood the test of time and fashion.
And Ballston is still a bad mall. 😕
I'm interning in Arlington and my boss sent this to me with the subject title "essential videos"
Remind me to rewatch this in 2029 to check if it is STILL relevant.
The Green Line snub is so on point.
THE PART ABOUT THE GREENLINE HAD ME ON THE FLOOR 😂 I WAS BORN AND RAISED IN DC THIS IS SO ACCURATE ABOUT ARLINGTON
I live in a-town and this is still Accurate in 2018
Kind of satisfying to look back. This was released about when I came to the area and I couldn't relate to most of the references at the time. Turn the clocks forward and it all makes so much sense!
I lived in Arlington for four years. There is not one thing in this rap not completely and 100 percent accurate.
I love how I didn’t understand that this song is satire back when I was 9, but 9 years later it’s absolutely hilarious. Extreme nostalgia trip.
He actually missed a couple additional Starbucks.
LOL !!!!!!
yea that's true
he needs to do an updated vision and add the other Starbucks!
Some of them are actually Gone now
He missed the one they added when they rebuilt the mall.
I live in Arlington and this is so accurate and the funniest video I have ever seen
Like fine wine this video only gets better with age. I love how everything visually has changed but the vibe is still the same.
OK, this has to be one of my favorite videos ever. I've lived in the neighborhood for almost 5 years, and you totally nailed it. The Starbucks part had me on the floor.
I moved to Arlington in 2010 and this video was hilarious then. Watching it again today was just as funny! Have to love it!! Good job!!
Moved here in 2010 too. Love this
This one's still my favorite - I grew up in Arlington, & this is perfect!
its sad i recongised most of the starbucks places... lol
Yea lol
Darkenedbyshadows same
Yes it's very sad
2024 and it's still a banger!!!!
It still makes me happy. Yes it does...😎💕🕊😎
Holy crap I have lived in Arlington...15 years. How have I never seen this. Awesome!
yo this came out a decade ago and it's still relevant
Aww this video gives me so much nostalgia of Arlington. Still a lot is the same but Ballston and some other things have completely changed in 14 years. Literally my teen-young adult years
Nostalgia is just the warmest feeling ☺️
it’s 2024 & this is all FACTS 😂
Remy, if you knew how many times I played this video across all my various TH-cam accounts over the years.... Starting 12 years ago when I lived in NW DC wearing boat shoes and brown flip flops at Whole Foods.........
That's like the 30th time I've watched that since 2009, and it's STILL awesome! Go Remy!!!
Lol remy lives in Arlington never knew I lived so close to the Saudi who drove the Audi
Nah, he drives a Prius but you can't see him driving since their are lots of parking tickets covering the window. It helps hide him from his Exes.
Same here
I believe you mean the saoodi in an aoodi
I miss Arlington... I grew up there, but now I live in Missouri. Literally.
This is relevant to 2018 and Amazon HQ2
I think the last time I watched this video was like 2010. THANK YOU . STILL FUNNY TO THIS DAY
This never gets old
This video is timeless. A true masterpiece
I LOVE THIS!!!!!!! Some parts are soooo ironic. Arlington VA, is the opposite of the hood, and we do have like 100 Starbucks.
Sorry Alanis. Not irony. More like satire
8 years later, they've run out even more poor people and opened more starbucks!
Yeah except for a couple small areas
Is it like that in most Us cities? Starbux everywhere
@@dougjaeger9882Jaeger all the poor ppl are in South Arlington, which might as well be Alexandria.
I'm from arlington and this is so true! It's cool knowing actually where that stuff is,and you should have also included the 7elevens
I repost this on social media every time I move back to Arlington for work. This shit had me rolling out of my chair laughing the first time I heard it. "I'm in Courthouse so much they call me Michael Vick"
I hadn't watched this in so long, and it made me laugh just like always. Love ya, Remy!!
Arlington don't you ever change
I demand a 2022 update video
Saw it years back....still funny.
Today, my husband was sitting in new york with me, drinking tomato juice. "Huh. Says it's made in .. Arlington," he says, looking at the back of the bottle. "I wonder where that is." WELL BOY OH BOY DID I HAVE THE PERFECT VIDEO FOR HIM
What a legend!
The green line part at the end is definitely the best part. Wraps up the whole theme of the video really well.
2019 - nothing's changed. I live in his building.
2023 checking in. Most of the kitchens are still the same. 😂
As an Arlington local I must say, this is brilliant! Well done.
Its 2022 and a lot of stuff in this video is either gone and or has changed, but it’s still pretty accurate
Only savage Arlington people can like this
Works for arlington ny too 😅🤣🤣❤
I don’t think the Ballston mall is that much better. Except the first floor can have some business, Macy’s gone, and the rest of the mall looks like a ghost town. The garage doesn’t share the same floor number as the mall, and it’s literally the worst managed mall I’ve ever seen
It's 2023 and it's still accurate. Nostalgic looking at the vanished Ballston Common Macy's and bookstores. Most of the other stores in Clarendon are there. Starbucks, too. Walgreens moved. Green line 😐
"We could take the Green Line..."
"Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh......"
LOL
This might be my favorite part of this whole video.
born and raised in Arlington and Arlingtonians have witnessed massive growth to the city. Rosslyn, Clarendon are Ballston really nice peaceful places plus they are right next to one another. Most of Arlington isn't has "ghetto" as the video makes it seem. I'm from South Arlington, and i would've loved for him to mention areas similar to my "hood" and also mention Mario's Subs and Pollo Rico. Like what Giuliani did to New York, thats what Arlington has gone through
You're comparing Arlington, Virginia to NYC??!! Hahahahaha!!
This is linked to a WaPo article about "Love is Blind". Congrats Remy!
"I go jogging...at a reasonable pace!" LOL, that kills!
As a transplant from California living in the DC area for the last 4.5 years this is scary accurate even today. I first found Remy though his MTGRemy channel. Good to see her was making comedy music before that channel
I used to love these growing up. And I still do!
I still die laughing at the Green Line line! 😅
This is still accurate a decade later.
Ha-ha! It’s now 13 years later and still nothing has changed!
All of this still applies in 2019.
Comedy gold. Brilliant lyrics.
Thanks for making this one Remy. You have to live it to love it!!!
"We could take the green line." 😂
Wow, it's been a decade. Ain't nothin changed.
this video is older than most today's popular channels and stand out in quality
Almost forgot to watch this today
I live here!! its awesome !!
ok so its three miles from D.C. and your only 5 minutes from the 6th biggest mall in the u.s. tysons corner, and like 2 minutes away from pentigon mall . and we have all four seasons. its in arlington, virginia.
I've never been to Arlington but this video is hilarious.
angeljohnson234 well come here
I FOUND YOU NILES!!!
It's "gangster" man. Especially the weed smoking middle schoolers
GO THERE ITS EPIC
Fuck me, why is everything here still relevant 10 years later???
Yo that greenline part ...I hollered
That was awesome!! 5/5 stars
Vienna got its mention :D
Haha. Lived there for over 9 years it was enough!
HILARIOUS!!! I found this analyzing if living in Arlington is a good choice or not, after this video, OBVIOUSLY not!! LOL
Actually its quite nice here.
The Carpool Restaurant in the vid was demolished a year ago and they started building a new apartment on it. 😭
F to a legend, that restaurant.
Arlington won't stop until every last vestige of its originality is eradicated.
@@Genkimark It's tragic. They even rebuilt the mall in the vid.
Never gets old.
I met my husband at Clarendon Ballroom in 2009 - this video is great for nostalgia lol!
reppin' Arlington. haha
God I love being from here
Though 3:37 The loss of Carpool for the new apartment building a few years ago makes me sad :(
Also the new mall build is doesn’t feel as nice. All the businesses left, save for the food court.
omg Arlington courthouse miss it lived there for 4 years 😂😂😂😂 sooo thug and dangerous!!!
Not sure if this timeless or prophetic
Spent 21 years of my life in Arlington. I hate it but there's always going to be that part of me that loves it. it's my hometown after all. And I still love this video 4 years later.
Haha so the joke is that the green line is the only one that actually goes through majority-black neighborhoods. (Through it doesn't actually go through Arlington.)
Yeah but they were in DC at that part of the song. "Now we're stuck in the city."
They weren't at Vienna, they were on the Orange line heading back to Arlington and Vienna is the line. In this plotline it looks like they were stuck at L'enfant, where the Orange line crosses with the Green.
You can blame production values for any continuity errors, like the L'enfant stop not actually being outside.
It's like in the movies; the itinerary doesn't actually work, but only the locals notice.
I was born in Arlington. Then my parents where like "lol fuck this" and we moved to Fairfax
A decade later and all this is still accurate!
Hahahah Hilarious. It's nice to actually know all the areas he shows.
"We could take the Green Line."
"Eeeehh......umm..." hahaha
That’s the best part 😂.
yo that's vienna metro...step off our turf son
i literally listen to it all night!! :P
This guy is Iraqi and knowns Arlington better than I do LOL good work.
Actually he was born in US (DC)
He's lebanese
It's not much to know. It's a really plain, really affluent inner suburb of DC. You could make a similar video about a few dozen other places throughout the US.
Matheus Souza Iraqi-American*
Michael H Do you work with their Chamber of Commerce or something?
Is this what DC is like? it looks incredibly dull. Think I'll stay in NYC.
nah, its arlington. Arlington looks pretty dull compared to DC.
Please do. We have enough Northeast transplants that have overtaken the area already.
Last I checked, Washington DC straddled North and South. I always considered it as much Northern as Southern. Btw, I'm a California transplant in the NE, get it right. And, if DC is indeed the South, then I already did my time... four yrs in Durham, NC for college. It was hell. You can have it.
HardstyleMFwhat I saw of DC looked cool. This looks like suburban hell. Thanks for clarifying.
i find it looks pretty awesome
2021, bring us the Arlington lockdown rap!
8 years later.....
12 years later.....
Arlington Rap 2: the suburbs
Amy Beesley-Gilman You still use youtube? lol Just wondering 3 years later.
This was a great intro to Arlington where I did my senior thesis on transit oriented developments. Thanks!
That's 16 Starbucks, for those who weren't counting
bproshek two of them were the same and it was the Oakton (Fairfax) starbucks not arlington
@@discrtidunkwn Yeah, one is in Pan Am
I knew.... every one of those starbucks
