    Love the vid. I can relate to things going wrong lol. My favorite ipa hop combo is Citra, Centennial, and Simcoe

    When you add hops straight to the keg and keep them there after conditioning and during serving, does the hop particles decrease your clarity over time, if you don’t devour the beer, impart any kind of off flavor?

      Keeping them in a keg I contain them in a metal mesh strainer or sack, so the beer clarity isn't affected. I have not noticed any flavor issues keeping it for the duration of the beer.

    good vid, simcoe and galaxy is a great combo too!
    also swirling the brew like that gave me anxiety, haha. isn't there a risk of oxidation?

    • @maltmode
      @maltmode  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You need oxygen before fermentation starts, so you should actually add oxygen during that time. I am very cautious though post fermentation to allow any oxygen to enter.

      Barley and the Hops TV oh ok, yeah that makes sense, the boil will have taken any oxygen out. I usually do 23 litre batches with only a 10 litre boil so I probably don't need to worry. keep up the god work, all your vids are great quality!

      I would recommend you actually add oxygen to your beer right before pitching your yeast with either shaking or adding pure oxygen with a tank as the yeast need oxygen for cell growth. Then after fermentation is done, eliminate it as much as possible. Glad you like the vids!

    I've got to look up this 180F Steep process

    • @maltmode
      @maltmode  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a good one. I've gone as low as 120F for steeping too with decent results!

      Barley and the Hops TV what do you get from the higher temp???

    • @maltmode
      @maltmode  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      soggywilson you will just get slightly more bitterness. The lower you go the more aroma and flavor you will be extracting rather than bitterness.

    just a few years on a freezer like that? omg.... the one like that I have at my house has been going on for at least 20 with almost no problems

    • @maltmode
      @maltmode  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      20 years?? Wow nice. That's definitely the longest I've heard using them clicking on and off all day long.

      Barley and the Hops TV yeah though I have to be frank, it's working almost constantly but keeping food inside, it's on about 0 Celsius, I guess yours is on about 20 Celsius right? Also older stuff is better quality usually

    • @maltmode
      @maltmode  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it's about 20 C averagely, sometimes swinging down to 10 C as well. My older chest freezer lasted 6 years before issues started to happen, and that thing had to be 15 years old before I got it.

      Barley and the Hops TV well there you go.. Unfortunately I don't think that today you can find some good stuff like the old ones.. Either way, keep brewing and making great videos, I'll start myself soon :)

    Please sort out he dynamics of the music vs talking. Have to turn you up to hear you talk, then the music is super loud.
    Aside from that, great vid.

      Thank you for the input. I've always wondered if my music was too loud and you were the first person to say something after over a year.

    why no sparge? why such a high water to grain ratio? maybe thats why youre only getting 65% efficiency? is this just an effort to save $ on grains?

    • @maltmode
      @maltmode  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's to save on time. I do mostly BIAB now, so it was sort of the same concept. I get 70% now with my BIAB set up.

    How do you calculate the post boil IBUs?

    • @maltmode
      @maltmode  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There won't be hardly any IBUs, but in BeerSmith you can calculate IBUs by temp and length of time.
