@@AmazingViz I would also consider adding another US fighter in the WWII Pacific theater, the Grumman F6F Hellcat. That was pretty much the first US fighter capable of countering contemporary A6Ms.

the Blackbird was a recognizance air craft, though its one of the most famous air craft in the world, it wasnt particularly feared as much as say, a nuke dropping Superfortress

Funnily enough, by the mid-war, the Jericho Trumpet had actually become a sort of joke amongst allied soldiers. Stukas had become so outclassed by allied fighters (and the Germans had lost air superiority by this point in the War over most combat fronts), hearing a Stuka generally indicated the death of the Stuka before they could actually deliver their payload.

I like everything about the DeHaviland Mosquito. It was made with few resources. It was an opportunistic hitter that caused the Germans great pain. Its speed made it very survivable. They were always thinking of a new role for this little gem.

I would also recommend the Albatross D.III (1917) as a candidate for wrecking havoc among on the Western front before older types could be replaced and production of new planes accelerated. I also think the Ju-88 merits inclusion for being a tough and capable medium bomber during the Battle of Britain and later a very capable night fighter. Similarly the Fw-190A when introduced gave RAF pilots flying Spitfire Mk Vs a rude shock with its superior performance and firepower. The Bristol Beaufighter is one of those planes often overlooked, but was deadly in anti-shipping and ground attack. Later the Blackburn Buccaneer (1958) was a credible ultra-low flying threat to Soviet guided missile cruisers, and in Red Flag exercises proved formidable until the advent of look-down shoot-down radar systems, finally retiring in 1994.
The Albatross series were by far better aircraft than the Dr1. I've read that Richthofen complained loudly when his unit was switched from the Albatross D.V to the Dr1. They also omitted the Spad, flown by the US top ace Eddie Rickenbacker (among other top aces)
Um…you may want to review your specs about the P-51 Mustang’s top speed. You’re off by about 100mph. This is a plane that shot down more than 1 ME-262.
You may also want to include the Fokke-Wulf 190; a formidable and arguably better plane than the BF-109.

Litteraly no one talking about the best fighter airecraft in the world : The Rafale
No Rafale, no Mirage III, no SPAD S.XIII... it seems french airplanes does not worth interest. But when you see a Valkyrie in that list, a plane who never pass the prototype stage... If not heavily used planes should also be considered then the Do 335 should be in that list too. And where is the Fw 190? Where are the MiG 21 and MiG 29?
The Rafale is good but not great, no one is going to look back in history and think, ahh the Rafale, that was one amazing plane. Can you really say it's better than it's 4.5 gen contemporaries?

5:32 the XB-70 never actually saw service, that's why it's called the xb-70, not the b-70, it never got out of prototyping, and only 2 were made, the first could only go up to mach 2.7 due to problems with the exterior, and the second one exploded in a test flight.

None of the UK V bombers mentioned, especially the Vulcan with the howl of a Banshee, very deadly, it managed to do 2 stealthy flights into the USA and complete simulated Nuke attacks, and succeed, I reckon that's deadly enough to be included..

I remember something from documentary film about something like flying bomb.
It was plane filled with explosive materials, pilot's task was to fly to the target, make plane crash into it, jump out before that and then come back.
After 5 successful flights pilot received a medal.

No harrier? They've been in service since the 60s and still going for some nations now. Seaharriers preformed exceptionally well in the falklands
James Swift They were an interesting idea but they were very inefficient, expensive to operate, and with their limited speed and fragile design, it didn’t hold up against the fighters of other nations. The ability to take off vertically was practical but it didn’t outweigh the sacrifices made to allow for it.

So the F-35B mustn't hold up either then as it shares those limitations and adds even more. The Harrier was not a fighter aircraft but it achieved one of the highest kill ratios in a conflict, not bad for a strike aircraft.
@@54356776 Indeed. The Harrier had multiple roles but the main ones were close air support for ground troops, bombing and then air to air if needs be. The best fact of the Harrier was the need for smaller aircraft carriers, given the vertical take off and landing design. "Fragile" seems to have been plucked from thin air as that has never been said about it, ever. The reason it couldn't go supersonic is because it was a flying brick, heavy, well built and not very aerodynamic because of its huggge intake for the Pegasus engine and the position of the nozzles to give it stability in hover and decent.
The F-35B is insanely complicated, compromised and what can only be described as "Throwing money at the problem without any inspiration behind it"......

Yes but it was definitely feared. The Russians scrambled to develop, and proceeded to make thousands of mig-25’s just because of the threat. So I’d definitely say it was feared it caused development of a fleet of pretty radical fighters to be made

@Plague Doctor My man, they built the Me 262 on the final months of the war, they were almost done with the prototype development of the Ho 229 aswell, they would have gotten nuclear tech in just a few years if the war didn't end, as Einstein himself wrote a letter to the US warning them that he feared nazi scientists were uncovering the process of splitting the atom.
Don't bullshit yourself by saying they had more brains because of their resources, they were almost dry on oil and rare metals, and they still managed to build the first jet aircraft ever, managed to do research on advanced stealth aircraft and almost got into nuclear power. You may ask "How are you certain that they would have nukes in just a few years?"
1: They already had the V2 rocket that could deliver the bombs.
2: Most of the american research team that produced the first atomic bomb was composed of captured german scientists. As well as their first orbit-worthy rocket.
3: We are talking about germans.

That is Operation Paperclip, which occured after the German surrender and only a month of before the successful Trinity nuclear test. There were a bunch of Jewish refugees on that Manhattan project though, from nations like Hungary, Germany and Poland. Enrico Fermi was Italian but his wife was Jewish and he fled to the US because of her.
A big reason why the Nazi's never developed the bomb and weren't going to was because the Allies went to a lot of effort to sabatage their efforts. Plus, the German scientists were wrong about a lot when it came to nuclear fission. In spite of your belief in German superscience, they were wrong as often as anyone else. They never figured out that graphite could be used as a neutron moderation because they never bothered to test ultra pure graphite.
The thing that captured German scientists help with was the US space program. A lot of our efforts up until the Space Shuttle could be traced directly to former Nazi Germany scientists, like Wernher Von Braun

It hardly came into battle, only 36 were made (finished), and only around 20 flew operations against the German fighters for the 4 days the battle lasted. A couple of G.I were captured by the Germans and taken to Germany to be used for training purposes.
@@paulchpaulch still, it wouldve been more accurate to show it was a Dutch plane since that was where it originated. Also your argument that it Hardly came into battle is not a good argument because when the Germans captured some they didnt use them in battle at all, unlike the Dutch

The BF-109 was also an interceptor
Edit: The XB-70 “Valkyrie” was never actually used because multiple technical problems arose in test flights.
There was a bit more to it than that, the problems were solvable, but there just wasn't a need for it anymore and they cut their losses.

I should remind you, that Valkirye's main feature was ability to fly without being intercepted by any aircraft Warszawa pact had to offer, And there appears MiG-25 flying 6 km over XB-70.

f117 is not the only aircraft dared to fly over baghdad, Iranian brave pilots flew over baghdad several times with phantom f4's and almost without stealth abilities as f117 has!

I am on the verge of turning 57 in May and I had to participate in air raid drills in the early 70s. I've asked younger people if they had to do air raid drills in school and the answer was "no". I've had the privilege of doing technical illustration work for an Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) for Honeywell. That inconspicuous engine was used in the B2 Stealth Bomber. Later on, I did more technical illustration work for Boeing in Mesa on all aspects of maintenance for the AH-64 Apache program for US and other international customers.

@@Mugdorna The movie will indeed be a cheesefest (as was the original), but like the original, it looks like it has some fantastic footage of actual aircraft "doing their thing". I remember seeing the original in the theater when it was released and I barely cared about all the cheese and inaccuracies because it was visually stunning!

Also, the RAF was getting absolutely murdered on the ground by German bombing runs but then they were able to recover after Hitler and Churchill got into a bomber-battle of who could murder the most civilians by bombing civilian targets

If the RAF only had Hurricanes, they would have been slaughtered by Bf-109s. Like the French Air Force and the Polish air forces who were numerically sizeable but with inferior aircraft.
The Hurricane was like the A-10 or U-2 or B-52 is now... workhorse aircraft but only with air superiority guaranteed by better aircraft.

Had the pleasure of seeing 3 A-10s land and take off during my early training days in the USAF. My favorite plane hands down. The Spooky is a close 2nd, it’s a Flying Fortress of doom.

The USMC used it in close air support extensively both on the ground and in anti-shipping. Plus, don't forget that the Corsair dropped well over 12,000 tons of bombs through out the Pacific, and was tasked with fleet defense against kamikazes (which is why the Corsair was bestowed with the title "Defender of the Fleet"). Yes, the F6F Hellcat shot down more planes, yet it still was found wanting in some respects, like speed and rate-of-climb. Also, whenever the "Bent-winged Bastard" took to the skies, it was easier to recognize by both sides.
Stephen Roberts Well all fighters of the time did also do ground attack roles but of course the Corsair excelled in it. Dont get me wrong; the Corsair was a brilliant airplane and did a lot of valuable service to the USMC and - once they solved some of their landing problems - the USN but the war was won in the great Naval battles of Coral Sea, Midway and around Guadalcanal. And there it were Grummans Cats, the Torpedo Bombers and Dive Bombers that did the job. By the time the Corsair was introduced it wasnt a question of IF the US were to win the war but when and at what cost. And yes, the Corsair did a great job at assuring the latter was as low as possible plus it gave valuable service in Korea. But it simply didnt have that decisive impact as the Wild-/Hellcat or - on a different campaign - the Mustang. It is a beautiful bird though, absolutely.
