My grandma loved his music and got the chance to see him in the 80s, she sat in the very front row and having learnt it was her birthday gave her a rose after the show and played "tea for two", at her request. She told everybody who would listen about him and her encounter for the next 30 years.
Your grandma is a lucky person that she heard Grappelli perform live .. I wished if had that opportunity to watch him live the man was a living legend a revolutionary musician head of he’s time .. but man what would I give to see Django and Grappelli play together they were music it self both of them inspired countless of giants of musicians around the world .. 👑 🎻 👑 🎸
Stephane Grapelli is not just a fine accomplished violinist, but has a real charming character. The guitar playing is fantastic. Love the style and combination. Great little documentary.
To remember past times, playing (me piano, age then 24) just once with Stephane in the 80's: a thrill of a lifetime. I requested "My Melancholy Baby"; if it'd been 1930 instead of 1983 we would've been a hit with the gals.
Thank you for those kind and observant words. It is perhaps worth mentioning that Stephane was in a continuous and painful battle with shingles at the time of filming. He refused to be beaten by it and played though the pain barrier regardless. The more he played, the less pain he felt. All who took part in the filming were in awe of what was taking place in front of us that day between Stephane and Martin.
@@LEMANPRODUCTIONSARCHIVE That's an amazing story ! Shingles is from what I know one of the most painful sicknesses of all. I am all the more in awe. Grappelli was pure music, joyful, elegant & healing. Thanks for sharing your experience & video.
I dont mean to be so off topic but does anybody know of a way to get back into an Instagram account? I was dumb forgot my login password. I would love any assistance you can offer me!
I'm with you on that. you just got to find your entry point and go from there. Not all jazz is created the same. There's a wide variety, different flavors and different interpretations of jazz. Like everything else in life, if you want the good stuff you got to dig for it. For me it was Miles Davis bitches Brew. That unique fusion of psychedelic rock and wild free jazz fusion. Or Miles Davis in a silent way is a haunting record it feels gritty like get was coming out of the very streets themselves. Today's generation are surprisingly getting into jazz. There's a psychedelic pop band that uses a lot of jazz chord progressions like 'mild high club'. Like a much trippier version of steely Dan. I was very lucky to be born into a Brazilian family, because it introduced me into the jazz flavored music of bossa nova.
I saw this pair play sometime in the 80s or 90s.. my chief memory is the contrast between how old stefan looked, and how young he sounded.. that and the mutual respect between them.
The motoric gift of this man defies most of my expectations of aging. What the hell, how can you play like this at this age??? Incredible genes, healthy diet, good mental health...? Great. Loved it. Thank you very much for the upload.
There are no words. His life and his music defy belief. I love it when he plays so softly that the notes seem to be disappearing and re-appearing quickly.
What a wonderful documentary. I've been a fan since learning of him from David Grisman records in the 1970s. I really enjoyed hearing his back story, and his playing here is so enjoyable. Thank you for sharing this.
Man grappelli was a master ! Music was coming out of him full of beautiful Melodie’s .. grappelli and Django were both revolutionary in music both are legends ❤ 👑 👑 .. and man this guitarist is also a superb guitarist I’m surprised that I didn’t heard of him 👏 🌟
To be a true genius must be a wonderful gift , but to be such a kind , caring one , is God's true embellishment of beauty and perfection ....... Irreplaceable .
I think the mute (damper) is a fantastic tool that is an important piece for the instrument to play softly maybe in a small space with good microphones. Then you take it off to get full volume from the fiddle (violin) which is good when playing outdoors or with louder guitars etc. Never underestimate the quality of soft playing. These guys are great 👍
No excuses, he played you out. You are using a guitar off course with his way. Still, he fits the guitar. He is classy, you are lacking the few guitars, to make him whole.

Such an honor to play with a true genius of the Jazz genre. The connecting of the generations. Merveilleux!

@@jeffreycraven8154 Oh, lucky fellow are you!
85 years old, still had it.
Amazing!
What a touching encounter, the cleanliness of Grappelli's playing, even at 85 years of age is just astounding !

@Aron Ernesto Instablaster :)
Such a legendary musician, I especially love how he continually makes eye contact with Martin.
Not really into jazz but could listen to Stephane all day long.
I'm with you on that.

the way he plays a piano - what chance do we mere mortals stand !
Totally amazing and wonderful music. Thanks! I'm glad I got to see this.
Much appreciated!
Rest in peace stephane 🌟 26.01.1908_01.12.1997 🌹
incredible how well he still plays at that age
Great film with two great friends
Music defies aging. Absolutely inspiring, encouraging, & comforting esp. in these very challenging times. Thank you.
I had the honour and privilege of meeting the great man, and getting his autograph for my eldest son Steffan 🥰
unbelievable..what a pleasure to see this..to see grappelli appreciated..at last..one of the most important people in music..thanks for posting this x
A great jazz pianist and violinist! I love Martin’s playing also.
And Grappelli spoke English to boot
Just amazing of Grapelli one of that things
Thankyou! Glad you enjoyed the film.

He grew up before the food supply was systematically laced with poison, was a great talent, and never quit practicing.
There are no words. His life and his music defy belief.
I love it when he plays so softly that the notes seem to be disappearing and re-appearing quickly.
I'm so surprised at how well SG was playing at that age. He seems to have been at the top of his game. An inspiration, as is Martin Taylor.
Always a pleasure to hear these two great artists!

10:23 Kenny G just after Martin Taylor must be a joke
It's unbearable to see this fine film totally destroyed by ads every two minutes. Disgusting.
Sorry to hear this, ad's have now been amended and hope this improves viewing.
@@LEMANPRODUCTIONSARCHIVE So it did -thank you!
Didn't see one ad in 2023...👍
I notice he has a damper on his violin, I use one to for a sweeter sound.

Wrong aspect ratio.
