So...20% larger map and ....20% larger blocks? In the end it seems there is actually no extra room?

    Isn't it Ca-val-ry pronounced? I noticed a lot of wargamers say 'Cal-ver-y'.

Don't get me started on 'Cal-ver-y' ... nearly as bad as fantasy gamers who say 'demond'.

      Landgraft
I'm so glad someone else noticed this. I was starting to think 'I' was incorrect given how widespread it is.

I just ran across this episode. Napoleon is one of the games I played a lot in High School. That was 80-84 and the Avalon Hill version. Pretty good.

Thanks for your review...I wasn't aware of that game...I need it ^^ Always dreamed of crushing "austrians" at Waterloo ;)

Are there plans for any other battles using these kind of components? Looks wonderful, but Waterloo (as well as any of the British campaigns) is dull as dishwater.
EDIT: That might seem a bit harsh. I just find the strategic picture of British campaigns much less engaging because their homeland is not on the line and the commanders were a lot more cautious. When you compare the back and forth between Napoleon and Blücher in 1813/1814 or the way Napoleon dissected his enemies in 1805, 1806, 1809 I just find Wellington a bit predictable. Hide behind the nearest hill and dress your lines when they come, rinse and repeat until we reach Paris.

I looted my third edition from my gaming club take-away bin, it's the first true war game I'm going to learn. 4th is probably more convenient in the long run but man does the 3rd edition look and feel immersive to a new player too.

Austria and Prussia were two different countries during the 1800's

I've played the Avalon Hill version but this looks much better. Love the idea of the green blocks!

I think it is the Prussians at Waterloo?

Sorry I blanked on camera. The Prussians under command of Gebhard von Blucher

Great review, as always. But every time Chief mentions Austrians, Blucher rolls over in his grave!

I still prefer the rules and components of the AH edition. Yes, NATO symbols remove some of the historical period flavor...but no more than modern printed metal foil stickers! :-)

Personally I highly dislike the NATO symbols. I tend to pass over games using them.

I thought the Prussians and British opposed the French???

E-4 Airman you are right. He misremembered or something. There was an austrian army of I believe 75,000 moving into France from the south but it was not at Waterloo. The Prussians were commanded by the famous general Von Blucher
