They had some amazing moments that showed how their brains were kinda similar when they were together. Cheryl was just polite while Larry just always said exactlt what he was thinking.
apparently that was not uncommon as they were simultaneously trying to evade machine gun fire while flying planes that were not overly maneuverable and trying to hit relatively small targets
I love how a character will drop a line and you immediately know what the argument is going to be and you just have to curl your toes and brace for it.

Katniss the Cat you do realize the Japanese at that time where horrible they where worse then the Nazis they certainly killed a lot more and where just as cruel if not more. The atomic was needed and it probably saved hundreds of thousands of lives maybe millions. Learn a bit of history.
Perhaps a little too serious a note for a humour video, but grazing and bouncing of kamikaze aircraft was actually pretty common. Most of the Kamikaze planes were outdated or damaged Mitsubishi Zero fighters. Fast and agile but very very light and poorly armored. their light weight had this effect: when loaded in the nose with 1000kg of explosives plus the usual 500kg bomb under the fuselage they became very hard to maneuver. Like flying a bus. Add 320km/hr speeds at a steep angle and many pilots missed their mark, or merely bounced or grazed the ship when they hit it. Happened more often than you'd think.
+oldtimesmatthew I'm just curious to know what happened after that? Did they pop cyanide? Were they taken prisoner and then allowed to commit ritual Hara Kiri in deference to their wishes? What happened? Incidentally, we notice that Yoshi's dad didn't do any of that either! So he really was a chicken!
+jinhyun1 Yoshi's dad I assumed grazed the ship and splashed down into the sea, only to be picked up and taken as a POW by the US. Then sent to a POW camp.
In all fairness, i would be asking the same shit Larry did. A kamikaze pilot that survived? That sounds fucking incredible (unless the guy had shit aim)
I'm sorry but this is absolutely fantastic ~ Just like suicide bombers, just by walking around- they're failure's ~ Can he really even be called a Kamikaze? Maybe an attempted Kamikaze? What a mind ~ Bravo Larry
The whole point of being a Kamikaze pilot is to die for the honor of serving their country, Japan. So...it's actually considered a disgrace. The actor did a great job showing shame of how it all went down. Great scene.
Actually, Kamikaze pilots were sworn to die for their country than to survive a failed mission. His father would be considered a disgrace...good on the actor for the shame he showed in this scene. Great job all the way around.
getrealman998 your comment was obviously not intended for Todd. Anyway, you are a complete idiot and brainwashed, probably by too many crappy movies. USA, UK, France, et cetera were/are all imperial powers that killed millions also. You call it a "free and democratic society" i call it a wasteland of consumerism with a lot of dumb and annoying people that use up natural resources like there's no tomorrow. Also, consumerism is/has been fueling quasi-slave labor which causes suffering of untold millions. You are living a double standard.
Reminds me of the time I was on a construction project in Palmer Falls, NY. We were installing a low head hydro turbine from Hitachi. Their rep was an incredibly competent Japanese who, after I got to know him, mentioned that he was lucky that the US had dropped the atomic bomb(s) on Japan. As I was taken aback I asked, sheepishly, why did he say that. His reply: "I had just entered the airforce and was to be trained just enough to be a kamikaze pilot when the US dropped the bomb."
"Alright, he grazed the ship. Is that because there was some kind of malfunction with the plane"? LMFAO! If there was a malfunction, wouldn't the plane have probably crashed into the ship?
No, the only malfunction that would likely happen is a jammed rudder/elevator/aileron, reducing control and making it harder to hit the ship? Did you even think 😂
I love how Sheryl's is trying to diffuse the situation by the empathic repetitions and trying to change the topic back to food. She can sense the tension in the room. "But he didn't die, thanks goodness for that" 🤣😂. "Are you ready to order?" YES! 😂🤣
Yoshi realizes for the first time that his father was a "chicken," so he drinks the shot in the kamikaze tradition. Larry helped him reach that discovery.
What's really worrying is that I think exactly like Larry. First thing that came to mind when he said his dad was a Kamikaze pilot was "He mustn't have been very good at it if he's still alive" - But what's really funny about Larry is he doesn't let it go...he just keep prodding LOL
Larry wasn't trolling. Trolling means you say or do something that you don't actually believe, to illicit a certain emotion of someone. Larry in this clip, is straight up questioning Yoshi's father's actions in the war.
My favorite part of this scene is how the camera zooms in on Larry when he heard kamikaze pilot and he world it out in his head. Like even the camera man knows Larry's gonna address it and is like "Oh I gotta see this".
I hadn't watched this episode for quite some time. I was watching it with my father and had to rewind certain lines 3 or 4 times because we were both in tears laughing. I think people use the moniker "genius" way to often but this is a time when i can say Larry David is a DEFINITIVE genius. The whole episode is hysterical(the legendary Shelley Berman who plays Larry David's father watching porn in the nursing home). GENIUS. AMAZING GENIUS amply backed up here.
Many Americans don't realize that at the beginning of WW-2, the Japanese pilots were superior, mostly based on training and experience. Kamikaze tactics only arose as the Japanese position became more desperate and their pilots less experienced.
Helicopter or fixed wing, bomber or fighter or freight/cargo or troop transport...there are lots of different types of pilots I don't see it as a weird question.
