      Actually had one of my Club Members here in Phx reach out to Honda NA earlier this year to ask. I can't remember the exact response but it sounded like corporate speak for "we can't say right now that we are, but we are".... but that's just a guess. Kymco is going to own the large maxie scooter segment if someone else does not step up. well see.

    Well FC, you got plenty of views/interest on this video. The AK seems to be almost perfect. Only 3k miles between oil changes and 12k miles between CVT belt changes is a bit much in todays market. Other than that it is awesome. I wonder if changing to a 160 instead of the 164 oil filter would fit in that small space. A larger and better quality oil filter would definitely be a plus.
    I'm also thinking the CVT belt would last at least 15k miles unless you really run it hard. Hmmm, maybe that's the reason for the shorter change interval as they may be anticipating some real sport riding with this beast ;)

    The good sound is due not just to the stock exhaust but the 270° crank. Common in twin motorcycles these days. Yamaha is well known for it with their CP2 engine. Ironically, the TMAX doesn’t use that firing order.

    Thank you for your review, real helpful - I have heard that BMW use this model as one of theirs so it must be good enough for them to put their badge on it.
    This is the first decent review by an owner that I've seen, and not in some other language (that I can't follow)
    I know as an owner you could be biased but it's nice that you are giving real feed back and not just a borrowed/paid review as most are. Also it seems to me that most reviewers need to compare a scooter to other scooters as most ride bikes and IMO are two different things.
    So what it seems to me is this scooter is kind of a hybrid of the two, a bike performance with the comfort of a scooter!

    • @fatcatscooter2584
      @fatcatscooter2584  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know that BMW either uses the engine or it's a bow engine... I forgot LOL. I run the Phoenix Scooter Club for years so I've ridden almost everything out there. The is a good bike in a world where no one is making big maxie scooters anymore. I picked up at 2015 low miles Bergman 400. And it's a great bike but this Kymco is better, power and sturdiness. Burgaman will never die but a little "plastic" feel and shakes when leaving the light... Kymco is solid all around. Only concern I have is if you have a Kymco dealer near by. Kymco has been pretty poor with parts and keeping things in stock but... show has everyone.

      Just saw this sorry, You know, I've been a videographer for several years (mainly for wedding and fun), and I don't think I've ever fixed that problem. Most of my video is with a "PhoPro"... ie Fake China GoPro. The shutter speed is preset so you get that flickering... I know thinks like the type of bulb, led light, etc and also cause that problem. Wish I had a better answer. IMHO, don't over think it, just film and have fun. Take care man.

    Hey thanks for all the great info on scooters! I'm in Mesa, Arizona as well and looking to buy my first one. I've been considering the AK550, the Xmax 300, the Burgman 400 and the X-Town 300i. Out of those four which would be the best option for commuting on the freeways considering price?

    • @fatcatscooter2584
      @fatcatscooter2584  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Clisby, if you get a chance join the Phoenix Scooter Club and come out to a meetup. www.phoenixscotoerclub.com All good bikes. Just because of the top speed, AK550 will be the best for freeways, but Kymco and parts, service can be hard. Burgman, pretty bullet proof, and 400 is till enough (and very comfortable seat) for highway. X Town, I'd pass... Xmax, Yamaha, I've never rode one but imagine like all Yamaha going to be bullet proof. If anything like the Vespa GTX 300, you can do highway speeds but you're pushing it a little bit. Vespa 300 tops out at about 82 with my lard ass on it lol. Another one I'd look at is the BV400, I have no issues with it on highway . I happen to love Piaggio / Vespa, but ak and Bergman have more comfortable seats. Hope to see you out man! G

      I'm a 6 foot six 230lbs man. The 2022 is an excellent fit for me. The height from the floorboard to the handlebars is about 30 inches. From the bottom of my foot to the top of my knees bent at a 90 degree angle is 26 inches. I rode mine home today, 3/29/2022. I last owned a 50cc scooter 30 years ago, no comparison. I had to ride it home 30 miles on I-75. It was smooth sailing. It's agile and 550cc fast. I took it easy going home in rain mode. The AK550 IMHO is the same bike at the 650 BMW, pretty good for 6 foot, and you're a skinny boy in the scooter world so no issues. I've not sat on the Yamaha 300 max but I'm guessing they have good foot room. 550 has OK foot room, over 6 feet may be an issue. Adv150 great bike, but way too small (seating wise) if coming from a Harley or to an AK500... but SIT on it BEFORE you buy.

    • @fatcatscooter2584
      @fatcatscooter2584  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good question, dash is not actually flashing like that lol. It's an optical illusion that is caused, I believe, my the frame rate of the go pro I'm shooting with....so it cause it to look like it's flashing. Very similar to when you see video of a airplane prop or helicopter and it looks like the blades are not spinning... it's just the frame rate is only capturing the blades at a certain position. Hope that helps.

    • @Winderon3
      @Winderon3 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The flashing is actually happening its just in person you can't see it because the human eye can't see something pulsing that fast but it is visible with the camera because it responds differently than the human eye. The display uses Pulse Width Modulation to control the display brightness basically turn the display on/off real fast.

    Ha ha you said 550 cubic inch. Its cubic centimeters. It's not really a lumber support but a butt stop, lol. I'd really like to see a comparison of this and the Tmax 530 and the MyRoad 700i not specs but ride/power/feel. I own a MyRoad 700i. It's funny Yamaha increased the Tmax engine size to 560 (not sold in the US) after this bike was introduced. Personally I think this is a great looking bike. The thing people miss in the scooter vs motorcycle comparison is most motorcycles you need to spend extra money just to get the storage of a scooter. Add in better wind/weather protection and that some people would rather hop on twist and go than constant shifting.

      @@goru426 in my first two years of ownership I had a seal in the CVT that took a several trips/time to get resolved at the dealer (including changing the clutch), one of the rear electronically adjustable shocks had to be replaced, the crank sensor had to be replaced, the cooling temp switch had to be replaced, the cargo light had to be replaced. Since then I had to replace another crank sensor, the cooling fan EMI filter had to be replaced. I bought it new in 2016 and have 33,000 miles on it now. I would have expected better given Kymco made the bike from 2008-2015 (only the last two years was it sold in the US). The AK550 came in about 2016 overseas so they have had several years to work out any issues. My suggestion might be to buy a extended warranty if you get one (assuming you don't want to work on it). Do not get me wrong I love my MyRoad as it's very powerful and unique looking. If I hadn't already bought two other scooters in 2020 I would seriously consider the AK550 and likely at a future date will add one to my stable.
