I am 90% certain the creative team didn't really want to cut the flashbacks (which would have helped the overall feel and look of the movie a lot I think), but, as happens much too often, random test audiences probably got bored with them and wanted to see more of donkey
There is a script I've heard of, by the writers of Hocus Pocus, that was dropped, after Hocus Pocus did poorly at the box office. I'd like to know more about that.
I keep thinking they waste her in these films shed be the perfect main or secondary antagonist espically if it seems like she is the main antagonist only for it to be revealed she was manipulated too
Elizabeth is essentially a MacGuffin, in the lingo of Hitchcock: a plot device around which the story evolves that isn’t significant in and of itself, that’s why she’s not a fleshed it, so to speak, character.
Thank you for making this video. While I agree it's not a perfect adaptation of the ride, I do still have a soft spot for it. I started reading the script yesterday when my parents and I were watching this movie because we're going to be seeing the new movie that's out now. I haven't finished the script yet, but so far from what I've read and what you said in this video, it does seem like the movie did a better job fixing it by making Jim less of a jerk. Having him being late for his and Sara's anniversary instead of forgetting Michael's birthday was better. And I'm surprised that the caretaker doesn't appear again since you said that in this video. And while I knew some of the background of the characters like with Gracey and Elizabeth, I didn't know about how Gracey was looking up sorcery stuff to bring her back to life. I did see that clip of Gracey going through a bunch of books, but I never knew what it was he was reading. It makes so much sense why a curse was put on the mansion. Also, there was another book that discussed Ramsley's backstory of when he met Gracey's father and having it tie to his motivation on killing Elizabeth.
I liked the Eddie Murphy movie as a kid but not now. The biggest issue I have is that the movie is very tonally inconsistent. It can't decide whether it wants to be funny or serious. Nothing against Eddie Murphy but he was very miscast in the role. The Haunted Mansion movie we should have gotten instead. Instead of being released in 2003 it would have been released in October of 1999. The movie would be rated PG-13 for Intense Violence, Language, Frightening Images, And Mild Suggestive Material (Unlike Pirates of The Carribbean it actually earns the PG-13 and takes advantage of it). Directed By Tim Burton. Produced By Denise Di Novi And Henry Sellick. Screenplay By Andrew Kevin Walker, Michael McDowell, Sam Hamm And Caroline Thompson. Music By Danny Elfman. Production Design By Rick Heinrichs. Based On The Haunted Mansion And Phantom Manor At Disney Theme Parks (It's based on both the California and Florida versions of The Haunted Mansion and Phantom Manor (Which is Disneyland Paris's version of The Haunted Mansion which is darker and more gothic:th-cam.com/video/QBJLOlXs7NU/w-d-xo.html)) The Cast: Heroes: Sam Neil as Detective Jim Evans - The film's main protagonist. Pam Grier as Detective Sarah Evans - Jim's wife. Johnny Depp as Master Edward Gracey (A more serious Johnny Depp performance similar to Nick of Time or Sleepy Hollow). Minnie Driver as Melanie Henshaw (Edward Gracey's fiancé. It's changed to Melanie Henshaw instead of Melanie Ravenswood to avoid incestuous undertones). Michelle Pfeiffer as Madame Leota. Michael Keaton as The Hatbox Ghost. Catherine O'Hara Cecilia Cornel (Caretaker). Michael Gough as Quincy Moriarty (Caretaker). Terence Stamp as Abraham Van Chester (Cartaker) (I originally wasn't going to cast given that he was in the 2003 film, but he worked with Tim Burton in Big Eyes and Ms. Peregryms Pecular Childeren so which is why I casted him and he's playing a completely differrent character). Miranda Richardson as Emma Morris (Careatker). Jeremy Irons as William Harker (Caretaker). Clancy Brown as Andrew Curry (Caretaker). Jack Nicholson as Ezra (Hitchiking Ghost). Danny DeVito as Phineas (Hitchiking Ghost). Christopher Walken as Gus (Hitchiking Ghost). Jeffrey Combs as The Groundskepper. Brett Cullen as Chief George Hastings (Minor character). Villains: Richard E. Grant as Henry Ravenswood/The Phantom - The film's main antagonist. Sadie Frost as Constance Hatchaway - The secondary antagonist along with Pastor Victor Thorn (Edward Gracey's former fiancé). Christopher Lee as Pastor Victor Thorn - The secondary antagonist along with Constance Hatchaway.
I am one who hated the movie. The entire story was wrong. It should have told the story of the original owners. The visitors were only there to move the story along. Trying to force a woman to leave her family?? No, never! And the inclusion of Eddie Murphy was just wrong casting. The movie should have been played straight, with moments of comic relief. Murphy tried too hard to make it slapstick. We were promised a story worthy of the Mansion. They didn't deliver.

I'm looking forward to the movie that will be coming out soon showing us the story of Constance, I can't wait to see you cover it!
Love the vids. Haunted mansion ride is my favorite.
It would be a interesting twist of Constance was the main antagonist and had Jane Eyre complex.

@@poisonapplecakes799 At she was more effective in Muppets Haunted Mansion.
@@willlyon7129 yeah and it wasn't too bad I think they did a good job,

That's the first time I've heard you drop the F-bomb! XD
