I grew up with Madonna. I played her music from the late 90s and mid 2000s constantly. I played out every Gaga album as well. The two are very different. Sure there are similarities, but it’s pop and there are similarities in all music genres. They are both artists: musicians and actresses. Madonna has her decades in the spotlight and Lady Gaga is having hers... she’s little more than half her age and that’s okay. LG is not trying to take the throne... you can have more than one queen in the world at the same time.

Ok, I'm only going to say this once I've been a massive Madonna fan for over 30 years. When lady Gaga first came onto the scene I thought she was great I've got a few of her albums on my Spotify Chromatica is Amazing. I personally think Madonna could have been a little kinder. I love Madonna and her music (not so impressed with madam x) still I saw her on tour she could release the phone book id still buy it lol..... Seeing how much respect Lady GaGa showed towards Madonna, then to get slapped in the face with the "REDUCTIVE" comment really made Madonna look like a bit of a bitch. I agree with you in exactly everything. Even the bit that I've been I huge Madonna fan myself, but I think what Madonna's shoukd take into account if she's smart enough, should be respecting LG, most of it as a musician on its whole, we all know here that (as much as I loved Madonna) fans make blind eyes when it comes to her voice and playing performance live. There's no argument that M should acknowledge that and shut her mouth before being this shady about LG.

Lady Gaga should just admit that a lot of the gays she hired for her "haus of gaga" grew up with madonna and were heavily inspired by madonna when they were creating a lot of her looks. It’s a shame that they went from loving each other to not really liking each other. I really feel that they were close friends and Lady Gaga was a big fan of hers but I feel that throughout the years they drifted and don’t get along anymore.

I think Madonna had had it officially was when Gaga released Born This Way. Before the parallels between their careers could maybe be called an 'homage' to Madonna, which could be flattering, I suppose, but that song came out and it was so blatantly a 'reductive' version of Express Yourself, and then Gaga had the nerve to say it was inspired by Whitney? Gaga literally was out to copy Madonna note for note, and her fans were just evil and miss anti-bullying said nothing about it. I guess that's when I lost a lot of respect for her... that and the fact that she always goes on about how incredibly brilliant she is and how she 'saved' pop music and I'm like, if you have to tell someone you're that great, you are clearly insecure and don't actually believe it. It's not like Madonna hasn't supported other young female artists. She even supported Gaga at first, but that ended as soon as that song was released. Madonna will always hold the record of top selling female artist and is in the same class as the Beatles, Elvis and the Rolling Stones. Gaga could make a comeback, but I'm not sure if her fans are still out there. Madonna's fans have been mostly loyal for over 30 years now.

Honestly I would be too if I were in her place. It’s not necessarily directed to Madonna, when you first get into the scene, getting compared to big icons would’ve been a compliment, being a true fan gaga just said what she said. Throughout the time her attitude change might have to do with what you said about realising who Madonna truly was but IMO a bigger portion about STILL getting compared to her even after being in the industry for more than a decade. Lauper had already had big hit records with 'Girls just wanna' etc. Madonna's producers speeded-up her studio vocal, to make her sound like Cyndi's natural voice. The vocal you hear on 'Material Girl' and many other earlier hits is not Madonna's undoctored vocal. Examine her 'live' vocals from that period - she can't do it. She has to lower the pitch. She can't do that 'Minnie Mouse on helium' live vocal - that was Cyndi Lauper's trademark natural voice. Cyndi used bustiers / basques in her first hit video - a year or so before Madonna made it big. So that was her look too. Without a doubt, Madonna copied her. If I were Cyndi, I would have been furious. To be fair, Madonna moved on and found her own road. But she had no business accusing Gaga of copying her.
Madonna has never said she was influenced by pauper, they came out at the same time and madonna’s influences were Bowie, Debbie Harry and Chrissy hynde. The bustier look was popular with many female stars in the 80’s, Madonna just took it to the iconic level.

I think Madonna is very cool. She nailed her concepts. Not only music. She built many other things around , Sex, Free mind, rebellious, support gay, being contradictory towards religion , on one hand she plays with god and religion, and on the other, she asks for forgiveness. She has cool appearances . People are different and percieve things differently. On top of the chart songs, you need to have some romatic melodies to listen to when you want to keep a quiet mind and feel introspective . I think Madonna has some of those songs in each of her albums. (Take a bow, This used to be my playground, Little Star, X process, etc) Her voice is low, so fit well with these songs. I listened to some other divas music, Beyonce, Britney, Christina, they don't last. I liked some songs by Gaga in A Star is Born, it showed her skills. But it has to be persistent. We'll see. It has to go into people's heart.

We can hear clearly the reference and influence, at the same time Born This Way is overall a very Gaga styled song. But Madonna uses that to attack her, to accuse her as a copycat, which is very unfortunate. There were a lot of other female artists referenced Madonna such as Christina Aguilera, but she only accused Lady Gaga. Because she was a threat to the throne.

Madonna is legendary, and a global icon. At her peaks, millions of teenage girls wanted to be her, wanted to dress like her, similar to Elvis. Madonna is still the best selling female artist of all time, and sold way way way more albums than Gaga. Gaga never reached that status, she might have a bigger fan base now and an Oscar for her singing, but Gaga was never a legend nor icon.

Madonna writes & produces her own music, she wrote four songs all by herself on her debut album including the hit, "Lucky Star" with no collaborator. She was the drummer of her first band, a guitarist, a songwriters, a producers, an actress, a film director. Just because Gaga grew up rich and had the luxury of getting musically trained as a kid does not make Gaga more talented than someone who grew up poor and learned all the musical skills on her own. Though, Madonna did take vocal coaching later which won her first Golden Globe in acting in the musical film, Evita.

And you would be right. Gaga repeated use of Black Face (3 times) and her lame fans photoshopped a fake image of Madonna from 2008 in black face. But the truth is, unlike Lady Gaga, Madonna has NEVER done blackface, and not even the concept of Black Madonna (which has everything to do with her work at the time with Hard Candy album) moved forward cause she didn't wanted to do something that might have been perceived as racially insensitive.

Gaga has what Madonna always wanted most - she can act! And she's young and still relevant whereas Madonna had her time in the sun and for a while tried to hold onto that. I think she's let up a bit, though. And it's really about time. It's time for her to be a real mum and stop acting like she's 25. She's 60 for chrissake! She's done more than most anyone ever will. But there's no doubt in my mind that she's jealous. I am sure it's difficult to age and watch younger, more attractive, more talented girls leave her in their wake.
What must be really really difficult is to spent you entire career being compared and asked about the woman who paved the way for you. Madonna is working on a new album and a new WORLD TOUR.
Gaga isn't exactly relevant either. Madonna benefits from being the blueprint, so even if she releases a flop album she can get by on touring and her legacy alone. Gaga went from being called the next Madonna and being one of the biggest and most influential modern pop stars, even being so big she was writing her own think pieces, to being eclipsed by the likes of Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, and Adele. She's not even in the running for being the next Madonna anymore, she's just sort of out there blowing in the wind. She certainly hasn't been able to hold on to the pulse of the industry as long as Madonna did in her day. At least Madonna can say that she was a touring force well after the peak of her recording career. I don't think Gaga will ever return to form at this point. She'll still see success, but her peak happened a decade ago. She's hardly comparable to Madonna in retrospect.

My view on this is entirely different. I think it’s totally impossible for Madonna to have gotten to where she is in life if she allowed, especially to the extreme extent portrayed with her and LG, feelings of insecurity about other artists, particularly women, to get in her head and truly bother her. You know, Madonna is so incredibly bright in a business sense (getting to a billionaire is shrewd work) and to me, and I admit that I might be too much of a pugilism fan (meaning of course that I’ve just about studied Muhammad Ali like he’s a science project) this all feels somehow similar to the fight between Floyd Mayweather and Connor McGregor - all of this could be staged for money and publicity. That motivation cannot ever be ruled out when money is a factor. It seems (money) can make whores out of the majority of people and there’s nothing right or wrong with that, and if people are petty enough (and I believe, through my experience with life so far, that the majority of people are unbelievably petty - pettiness is one thing that always truly shocks me and I’m not an easy person to shock) then why not capitalise on that and promote that there’s a rivalry where in fact behind the scenes, they might actually be close pals. The essential requirement for any drama series or popular dramatic movie, something that is impossible to successfully create without this one vital ingredient is - conflict. Although, having said that, Lady Gaga does come across as extremely sweet and very genuine, so if Madonna is capitalising on it internationally (which yes, she definitely is - there’s no way that she’d just... you know, leave something like that lying on the ground) LG may not even be aware of/in on it. And always keeping in mind that Madonna is a consummate businesswoman and very opportunistic (and I don’t say this in a bad way, it’s an observation) and i think that all successful people really do need to be opportunistic at the very least at some stage and not ever sort of... leave any possible stone unturned. I love them both (Madonna and Gaga) but just atm I’m just all about LG cos I’ve already done all the homework/psych on Madonna years ago ❤️

A lot of times the media likes to blow these comparisons so much out of proportion. I will say the only critique that raised my eyebrows was that old 2009/2010 interview when Madonna was commenting on Express Yourself and she said Lady Gaga's song could be described as sounding reductive. I think she tried to choose a word carefully on the spot and it still came off as a weird critique but other than that, they both are fans of one another so I don't see anything in this "feud" if it even really exists.
It's MUSIC. Music only has ONE SCALE with the SAME CHORDS, KEYS, NOTES AND PROGRESSIONS. Obviously, two songs will eventually sound similar with each other, ESPECIALLY IF IT'S POP MUSIC.
She sailed too close to the sun with the Madonna reference in her music and visuals. She has made her own impact now which we have waited for. In reality she would have to create a shallow impact at least four or fives times more to have the Same long-lasting impact. Her fans were the problem as to elevate her was to devalue the impact and back catalogue that Madonna has .....they don’t compare although she is getting there.
I first listened to Ray of Light in my high school. Then Music. Her Drowned World tour video was quite impressive to me. Her performance. What impressed me also included her videos and romantic music - e.g. Take a Bow. Her recent albums were less impressive to me. But anyway, i can sing many of her songs. Haha.

I grew up with Madonna. I played her music from the late 90s and mid 2000s constantly. I played out every Gaga album as well. The two are very different. Sure there are similarities, but it’s pop and there are similarities in all music genres. They are both artists: musicians and actresses. Madonna has her decades in the spotlight and Lady Gaga is having hers... she’s little more than half her age and that’s okay. LG is not trying to take the throne... you can have more than one queen in the world at the same time.

I think Madonna had had it officially was when Gaga released Born This Way. Before the parallels between their careers could maybe be called an 'homage' to Madonna, which could be flattering, I suppose, but that song came out and it was so blatantly a 'reductive' version of Express Yourself, and then Gaga had the nerve to say it was inspired by Whitney? Gaga literally was out to copy Madonna note for note, and her fans were just evil and miss anti-bullying said nothing about it. The vocal you hear on 'Material Girl' and many other earlier hits is not Madonna's undoctored vocal. Examine her 'live' vocals from that period - she can't do it. She has to lower the pitch.

She has cool appearances . People are different and percieve things differently. On top of the chart songs, you need to have some romatic melodies to listen to when you want to keep a quiet mind and feel introspective . I think Madonna has some of those songs in each of her albums. (Take a bow, This used to be my playground, Little Star, X process, etc) Her voice is low, so fit well with these songs.
I listened to some other divas music, Beyonce, Britney, Christina, they don't last. I liked some songs by Gaga in A Star is Born, it showed her skills. But it has to be persistent. We'll see. It has to go into people's heart.

We can hear clearly the reference and influence, at the same time Born This Way is overall a very Gaga styled song. But Madonna uses that to attack her, to accuse her as a copycat, which is very unfortunate. There were a lot of other female artists referenced Madonna such as Christina Aguilera, but she only accused Lady Gaga. Because she was a threat to the throne.

Just because Gaga grew up rich and had the luxury of getting musically trained as a kid does not make Gaga more talented than someone who grew up poor and learned all the musical skills on her own. I don't think they really hated each other. The press just made the conflict up in a way to kinda hype up each other's careers as well. Good or bad publicity is still publicity. In fairness to LG, she has been consistent in her interviews in mentioning Madonna as one of her influences. So why would Madonna take that negatively? Unfortunately, Madonna never watches TV and when she reacted about the Born This Way song, I'm sure that the media poured poison to her hence the "reductive" comment. I think she's let up a bit, though. And it's really about time. It's time for her to be a real mum and stop acting like she's 25. She's 60 for chrissake! She's done more than most anyone ever will. But there's no doubt in my mind that she's jealous. I am sure it's difficult to age and watch younger, more attractive, more talented girls leave her in their wake.

Gaga went from being called the next Madonna and being one of the biggest and most influential modern pop stars, even being so big she was writing her own think pieces, to being eclipsed by the likes of Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, and Adele. She's not even in the running for being the next Madonna anymore, she's just sort of out there blowing in the wind. She certainly hasn't been able to hold on to the pulse of the industry as long as Madonna did in her day. At least Madonna can say that she was a touring force well after the peak of her recording career. I don't think Gaga will ever return to form at this point. She'll still see success, but her peak happened a decade ago. She's hardly comparable to Madonna in retrospect.

My view on this is entirely different.
I think it’s totally impossible for Madonna to have gotten to where she is in life if she allowed, especially to the extreme extent portrayed with her and LG, feelings of insecurity about other artists, particularly women, to get in her head and truly bother her.
You know, Madonna is so incredibly bright in a business sense (getting to a billionaire is shrewd work) and to me, and I admit that I might be too much of a pugilism fan (meaning of course that I’ve just about studied Muhammad Ali like he’s a science project) this all feels somehow similar to the fight between Floyd Mayweather and Connor McGregor - all of this could be staged for money and publicity. That motivation cannot ever be ruled out when money is a factor. It seems (money) can make whores out of the majority of people and there’s nothing right or wrong with that, and if people are petty enough (and I believe, through my experience with life so far, that the majority of people are unbelievably petty - pettiness is one thing that always truly shocks me and I’m not an easy person to shock) then why not capitalise on that and promote that there’s a rivalry where in fact behind the scenes, they might actually be close pals.
The essential requirement for any drama series or popular dramatic movie, something that is impossible to successfully create without this one vital ingredient is - conflict.
Although, having said that, Lady Gaga does come across as extremely sweet and very genuine, so if Madonna is capitalising on it internationally (which yes, she definitely is - there’s no way that she’d just... you know, leave something like that lying on the ground) LG may not even be aware of/in on it.
And always keeping in mind that Madonna is a consummate businesswoman and very opportunistic (and I don’t say this in a bad way, it’s an observation) and i think that all successful people really do need to be opportunistic at the very least at some stage and not ever sort of... leave any possible stone unturned. I love them both (Madonna and Gaga) but just atm I’m just all about LG cos I’ve already done all the homework/psych on Madonna years ago ❤️

A lot of times the media likes to blow these comparisons so much out of proportion. I will say the only critique that raised my eyebrows was that old 2009/2010 interview when Madonna was commenting on Express Yourself and she said Lady Gaga's song could be described as sounding reductive. I think she tried to choose a word carefully on the spot and it still came off as a weird critique but other than that, they both are fans of one another so I don't see anything in this "feud" if it even really exists.

I first listened to Ray of Light in my high school. Then Music. Her Drowned World tour video was quite impressive to me. Her performance.
