I want to just mention, I've finally imported my script as subtitles for this video. I tried as I was working on this to add and change the script as I went specifically for the subtitles, but as it's a creative process and the video is over 5 hours long, making sure it's perfectly accurate is a job I cannot get right without help. Hopefully one day I can pay someone to do this for me and get it up to scratch, I do want my videos to be more accessible but it's an arduous process that currently I just don't have the time for or the money to burn. I really do hope the subtitles are decent, and hopefully down the line I'll improve my workflow or get help to make sure my videos as as accessible as can be. Thanks.

To answer the thing about the legendary ships possibly not being canon:
Only the achievements are not regarded as necessarily canon or not. However synchronisation _is_ canon. It is the 100% historic events of the ancestors lives.
The Legendary Ships are tracked in Edward's DNA and thus getting 100% sync, the canon Edward playthrough, is dealing with those Legendary Ships.
This is also why Edward pickpocketing the Templars as an optional objective works. It's not just a "haha look what Edward can do", it _is_ a canonical action Edward took. Edward _did_ pickpocket those men. Regardless of player action, canonically, Edward was a cheeky pirate and robbed all those men where they stood.

I think Black Flag has the best AC storyline. It's not that it's mainly just about "assassins vs templars", I like the pirate theme, but I think it serves as a bridge between the story of Edward, the assassins and the Templars into the pirate setting. The ending of this game touched my soul after what happaned in AC 3, it was just great, you just have to feel it for yourself to understand.

I remember when I first played AC4 my father bought the game and tried it out and played it for a few minutes and didn't like it, so he handed the controller to me, and I was completely enthralled in the time period, and I felt like I was Edward Kenway, I saw him change from a reckless greedy pirate into an assassin who was much wiser and experienced. At the end of the game when I finally killed Torres and he said Edward had taken far greater losses and not having no friends and future, I realized that all the people Edward was with and fought for were both dead, imprisoned. Plus, that ending scene with all of them at the table and the parting glass started playing I sobbed. For me Edward Kenway is the Arthur Morgan of assassin's creed.

Here we are again, another mammoth video and another instance of James showing why he's one of the best at what he does. The analysis, the passion, the personality (seriously love the cutaways, the bucket of lemons cracked me up), the vibes, all immaculate as ever. The sequence 8 section being a particular highlight, focusing on aspects I'd never consciously notice but makes so much sense and really enriches the experience. A hell of a video that does credit to a great story!

One thing that I find really interesting about this earlier AC games which you praise a lot and retrospected is how they are open to interpret for the player, not really explaining every aspect of the game(for example how you brought up the significance of the sea to Edward, even if that's not necessarily done on purpose). That's why this last 2 retrospectives (AC4 and AC1) work so well,as you said,as art because they leave the player interpret the event and the aspects of the game while giving it a root to do so.Again ,this proves that this games are ART for you and now for me(as I watched the retrospectives my view of the games changed drastically.Ty for that),because you view them from one perspective, while others don't really give a fuck and just enjoy junk food games... Anyway what I mean is while the games are good, you made them, with your work, seem so much better and I can see you put heart in your videos.Appreciate it a lot!

Its deep stroy and themes is what got me into the franchise and although its a far cry (no pun intended) from what it used to be, its still fun to revisit the older games and what they mean to us. Hopefully more people see it from a new perspective and less ppl continue to call it a bad ac game. This was a very enjoyable video and I look forward to more great projects from you in the future. :)

This was a remarkable video. Throughly enjoyed, unsurprisingly. All of your AC videos tend to be masterful, as well as other retrospectives, like Horizon, Sonic, and Subnautica. I’ve watched all of your AC retrospectives, including the ones from the playlist you mentioned. I’ve always respected your understanding of this franchise better than most fans do anyway. I feel genuinely terrible that the series has soured your taste and trust from ever investing in it again.
I genuinely found mirage to be a nice small addition to the franchise, albeit you don’t ever see yourself playing it. I can promise you that there are things worth your time and appreciation, you of all people would recognize them within the game, be it the narrative themes, classic gameplay, or short duration. I know you’ve said your piece here, and in the last Mirage video, but all I ask as a longtime fan of yours is to be open and give it a go anyway, I believe you might be surprised yet still. I know you’ve ignored my comments from the last Mirage video, since you already disagree without having tried it. Your take on it is something I’d personally watch in an instant, not to mention the long awaited Valhalla review you cancelled. As someone who understands AC so well, your voice is relevant and I’d love to hear your honest opinion once more, just not blind sighted.

      @LazerzZ  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Appreciate the kind words. As for Mirage, right now I really have no interest. There may be things here and there I think are cool, but I'm fairly certain it's a game I would have more issues with than anything else and I just don't feel like doing that to myself. If I ever do decided to give it a shot just for the hell of it, it would probably be when the spotlight isn't on it. I feel like people are far more open to critique when it's not the game everyone is currently in love with. Once it falls behind after Red and Hexe, maybe then I can try it, after the hype, when people have moved on and then give my actual thoughts on what it does or doesn't do. That's not to say I will, because I probably wont, but if I were to, those would probably be the conditions in which I would.

@@LazerzZ Really appreciate the response, James, thank you. I understand and relate to where you’re coming from, hence all the more frustrating it is to convey my message to you, since I’d feel and do the same if I hadn’t already. For years I’ve agreed with you on most things AC, if not all. I too struggled heavily with Origins, Odyssey, & Valhalla, albeit far more so with the latter two, yet also can appreciate objective redeeming qualities that exist within any of the three. Interestingly enough, this is where my plea is coming from altogether, because as someone who has resonated deeply with your Odyssey Broke Me video, as well as everything that came after it in retrospectives, I too didn’t believe Mirage would have any redeeming qualities. Ubisoft could never.
I was convinced nothing Ubisoft can attempt would bring back that Assassin Fantasy again. I bought Mirage on a sale to scratch my own stubborn curiosity, and in hindsight I’m honestly glad that I did, because it was a far more an enjoyable experience than what I originally anticipated and thought it would be. Yes, I was expecting Valhalla-isque scenarios, yet below the surface I was surprised with what it managed to achieve that even Valhalla, Odyssey, and Origins couldn’t. I don’t mean to sound like a broken record, but alas I repeat that there are indeed redeeming qualities that I know for certain you’d appreciate and acknowledge. The game itself isn’t perfect with its lower budget, nor its Valhalla engine, but it undoubtedly aims to do the upmost right with what it has allowed itself to. I respect Bordeaux for that, as it seems this minor studio actually brought some of the old magic back, albeit not as grand or deep. I would argue they succeeded with the Assassin Fantasy, and even managed to throw in some of the Creed’s freedom paradox that coexists within Black Flag, AC1, and Valhalla as well.
I know the chances are low as you’ve stated, and yet I do still look forward to such a potential day in the years to come, even if it’s a spontaneous stream. For what it’s worth, my favourite experience with the game was the Permadeath mode, titled ‘Full Synchronization challenge’, which superbly works quite well within the risk for reward factor, and got me wondering why no AC title had attempted such a feat before, as it works well within AC I found it. Having stealth tools return with social stealth, as well as improved parkour control and design layouts was also a classic welcome - all of which I’d like you to experience for yourself.
Anyways, I’ve rambled on for too long. Whatever AC content you may develop down the road, rest assured thousands including myself will be right here ready for another masterpiece. You’ve grown a lot since I discovered you back in 2015, and have impressed time and time again with the experience and wisdom you’ve gained throughout the years. I look forward to seeing your future unfold further still, AC or not, though selfishly I hope for both. Cheers!

This is undoubtedly the ultimate Black Flag video, honestly James I think you've really become one of my favorite Content Creators ever, these videos are genuinely pieces of Art!
I just want to touch on what you said about Valhalla because I really didn't expect that, I used to be one of the few people who despite still having a laugh to all the memes created to ridicule the game never really changed his mind about at least the quality of the overall narrative presented in it, so hearing you say those things was really a breath of fresh air, it's not like you said the game is good and I don't even necessarily believe that myself (anymore 😅) but I did feel that a lot of the criticism thrown at it back then was indeed a little too harsh and it was nice hearing you acknowledge that, i really love how you used that segment to reinforce both games in relation to AC1...
AC Valhalla 5 years later video next year??
    Nah i'm joking...

James, I think you did an incredible job with this video. I've always considered Black Flag my favourite AC game but you really illustrated why this game, particularly the story and Edwards character, is so special. One moment that really stuck out to me is when you talked about the bit in sequence 11 when Edward finally goes to the assassins, mentioning that it's been 6 years since the start of the game. You mentioned earlier in the video that the game doesn't really convey the passage of time all that well and I agree with you there. However when you mentioned that it had been 6 years, I really felt it, like I had been on the journey with Edward just as much as I would have if I replayed the game myself. To bring out the same feelings, if not more so, that I would have felt playing the game, just by watching a video about it, is a testament to how well you make your videos.
I hope that made a bit of sense, I'm shit at explaining myself but the point is, this video is a work of art. Seriously, congrats.
