Love EMGs. Got a set of SA's in a 70s strat and T-52s in a warmoth tele. Very versatile pickups, especially if you add in some of the EMG active tone controls. They respond really well to effects. Also noticed a increase in sustain and clarity especially up the neck, no string pull.

The SPC knob adds a nice grit that makes the EMGs sound like a really nice set of hot passives.

Jon have you ever played any of the older 70's - 80's Ovation solid body guitars? You are at the age that you would have likely seen these, not to mention your connections and contacts.
I have an Ovation Preacher Deluxe 1283 with a preamp and mini humbuckers that requires 2 - 9 volt batteries. I don't see many videos using these interesting guitars. This was my first guitar as a youngster and it is still mint and really rocks. There are 2 internal tiny pots that control the output for the neck pup and one to level the bridge with the neck. It can be made to break up wildly, or be very tame.

I have a similar circuit from Artec which allows to control with the poti the range of the amplified mid frequencies. That works very well (turns e.g. a humbucker sound into a single coil sound and vice versa) but finally I removed it due to the increased hiss. I might try it again one day with some better shielding. See here: www.artecsound.com/pickups/electronics/bcu.html
