  • The Boston Sea Rovers Career Opportunities in Marine Sectors (COMS) Symposium offers a series of dynamic presentations about the world’s oceans as well as discussion of Career Opportunities in Marine Sectors including Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) and the Arts.
With over 20 years of experience as a marine engineer, Tad Masek recently joined the Autonomous Systems Group at MBARI in Moss Landing, CA. His current work as an Autonomous Systems Operations Engineer is the highlight of his career, combining both being out at sea deploying AUVs and being in the lab developing new hardware.
Tad’s career began during his undergraduate studies as an Environmental Scientist where he designed environmental sensors, including anemometers, and water samplers for use by research professors in the San Francisco delta. After university Tad ran CNC machines to build underwater camera housings at Light & Motion, eventually moving into the position of Sr. Engineer of the Electrical and Software Engineering Departments. Tad has worked at the Naval Postgraduate School as a research scientist in the Autonomous Vehicle Lab developing new control algorithms for AUVs and ASVs. Tad was also a Sr. Design Engineer working on rebreather circuit boards for Hollis.
Tad has a BS in Environmental Science from Cal State Monterey Bay and a MS in Computer Science from the Naval Postgraduate School.
