    Here we go again mates, this technique always creates a lot of controversy no matter the subject or the modeller, but eh ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    This is looking epic! One of my favourite parts of the weathering is doing all this beautiful chipping and oil work and then covering it all up with dust later! Heheh.....heh.....

    The "break light" at 8:50 is in fact an electrical outlet, I advise you www.charfrancais.net if you want an infinite source of reference photos and documentation for French tanks.
    Another mistake, the part of the antenna that you paint as if it were leather was actually made of red rubber painted the same colour as the camouflage.
    However, the paint would fade quickly and let the red rubber show through.

    I didn’t believe this was a 1/72 scale model till I saw the turret on the clothes peg 🥴 as usual your painting techniques are stunning, just breathtaking. I also would like to say how much I enjoy your cheery upbeat videos and your bloopers just goes to show we are all human 😂 I have a, well hundreds but will keep it to just one, how do you keep the points on your brushes so sharp/pointed? I have a few winsor & newton Kolinski 000 brushes, only a few months old but already they’re looking tired 😢 cost a fortune and haven’t lasted well at all my cheaper brushes seam to last much longer and cost 5 times less. I use mostly model colour, tamiya and life colour paints. What is your secret to sharp, defined points and what do you use to clean them ? Many thanks for all you do for us Meer mortals. Keep up the brilliant work you do. Kindest regards Kenny.

    • @NightShiftScaleModels
      @NightShiftScaleModels  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Vallejo 000 brush I use is nothing fancy or special, the way I maintain it makes it almost as good as new and I've been using it for several years. I believe the key elements are: not dipping the brush all the way in paint, just the tip. Not using it for "harsh" stuff like mixing paints, I use a separate brush for that. Proper cleaning with lacquer thinner (Mr. color thinner) and making sure to "wipe away" all paint from its bristles using another brush. And of course, never apply enamel paints with those brushes. They'd dry up the bristles and make them frail.

    I suspect that if you cornered a French military historian and asked them how long these FFI vehicles actually served you'd get a lot of mumbles. At least the 2nd Armored Division seemed to keep after the appearance their machines. I'd still like to see some good images for the post-war French Panthers, though they seemed to be mostly all olive drab, all the time.

  • @alexhunt7810
    @alexhunt7810 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    rust's fine, these things are 1939 stock tanks that have been used to all hell (first the French fighting the Germans, then the Germans in occupying France, and now back to fighting the Ze Germans) and the FFI didn't exactly have time to polish all that rust off. Heck, if anything it should look even more worn out.

  • @joeokabayashi8669

    Agree; rust on sheet metal = yes; rust on cast steel for operational vehicles = no thank you.

    2:13 I love your work but how can you not care about the tank you've passed this much time building and perfecting?
    Isn't building the thing for hours on end pushing you to learn more about it?
    And even if you only like building tanks and are otherwise just superficially interested in them, doesn't knowing for how much time they operated after being painted before being taken off the frontline affect how you paint them, how much damage they possibly could have on them?
    Or do you really not care at all about realism and would make a rust bucket out of a brand new Abrams tank on a whim?
    I understand artistic freedom but the line between it and pure disdain for the base material can be quite thin. Considering your apparent passion for modelling and me only having watched 10 or so of your videos this far I'm more than inclined to think the former but it's unfortunate that you have to constantly repeat that you aren't bothered by not doing things realistically and not knowing the basic history of the piece you're painting on.
