As one of the folks who took part in the original 150 Razorbacks it’s nice to see they are still popular. I still have my original along with the 7 mags we serial numbered to the gun and the paperwork and test target. It’s one of those lifetime guns that will stay in the family. You brought back good memories of talking with Bob Serva on 1911 forum where a team of folks designed the Razorback and named it.
While I don't have a DW 10mm, I do have a PM-7 chambered in .45acp. I would imagine they're built the same. Boy, they are very fine pistols. The attention to detail satisfies my OCD tendencies, haa.

It was the Wilson Combat mags causing issues. My Razorback doesn’t like Wilson Combat mags . Dan Wesson, Ed Brown and Metalform all work flawlessly in it. My RIA Pro Match Ultra likes the Wilson mags though .
I bought a Springfield Ronin Elite 1911 10mm 2 years ago for $1,000.00 & immediately had FTF issues. It had a very rough breech face & had to be sent back to Springfield. After they resurfaced the breech face the pistol has been 100% reliable. It shoots everything from 40 S&W to 200 gr. Buffalo Bore hard cast with no problems. It is as reliable as my Glock 20!
Mr. Hickok my first firearm purchase was a Glock 30, of course no break-in required. In your opinion do most of the high end 1911's (Nighthawk-Dan Wesson-Wilson combat etc.) -$3,000-plus beauties require a break in cycle? If so in your experience have you ever found one that did not. I thank you for your time.
Yes 100% yes my man. Also- nighthawk and Wilson are a step above Dan Wesson. I have a Dan Wesson but not a Wilson/nighthawk YET. Dan Wesson is the best production 1911 but Isn't quite as good as hand-fitted customs. Dan Wesson run around 1800-2400, Nighthawk and Wilson are going to run you $3000-6000. Either way, Dan Wesson is the best non-custom 1911 you can get, and it's as accurate and durable as Wilson or nighthawk 100%. All three are heirloom quality and tightly fitted which requires break-in. It's made to fire tens of thousands of rounds and go to your grandchildren.
Also with full power hardball ammo, it shouldn't really need break in. Odds are it fires 500 rounds without any misfires, but the point of the break in is it MIGHT.
My 2009 PM9 with a serial number of 69 is the best 1911 style pistol I have owned to date......I've made a few mods to it and I load my own 9mm rounds and it is just a joy to shoot......Thinking about it in retrospect I wish I'd bought a handful of them.
There's no excuse for a 1911 to be that temperamental out of the box, especially when it cost $1800. If the army's 1911s were that unreliable we'd have dumped them before WW1 even started. Companies need to test-fire their guns if they're going to fit them tighter than a bank vault. Either that or include a case of "break-in" ammo free with every 1911 sold.
I have a DW PM-7 with full guide rod and a DW VBOB with a standard guide rod (both 45ACP). The only difference is the take-down process. I kind of prefer the full length rod because the spring doesn't go flying. Both are great guns but I prefer the combat sight of the VBOB over the target sight of the PM-7.
What sight is on your v bob the heinie straight 8? That's what is on my Valor and I make some ragged holes target shooting with it but I always wanted to switch to a bomar style sight with gold bead or fiber optic.
I have the Dan Wesson Wraith 10mm. It's a range beast. My daily carry is a Dan Wesson Valkyrie Commander. 45acp. Both have run perfectly with Wilson Combat mags. Hot ammo down to reloads.
When I picked up my specialist at buds I never got put back ….the checkering…heft…and ring of forged steel is what pistols are to me..I know that feeling you talk about and are experiencing here as I fondle mine everyday…the fury elite is that $6k 1 I mentioned..
Check the front lower edge of the breech face of the slide to see if it has a small radius on it . If not, the failure to go into battery is most likely caused by the slide digging into the brass and slowing it down , don’t ask me how I know :) Just machine a small radius and your problem will disappear.
I have a 70s matching Dan Wesson pair..357 and 22 caliber revolvers both 6 inch barrels and 2 and half inch barrels. I'd love to have a Dan Wesson 1911
I bought a chronograph to find good 10mm Ammo for my 6" Remington Hunter. Most Ammo is more a 40 S&W in a large Case. Newer Hornady XTP and FEderal Bear Claw are good. Standard Ammo with FMJ are much weaker mostly.
Yep..took 2 whitetail with hornady 155s…handloaded some extreme defenders same weight with cfe as hot as possible till pressure signs showed and by the book it’s a 40s&w charge…bulged a case tryin to go nuclear and woulda hairlipped a lesser handgun…can’t wait to hammer 1 with 6” trp longslide with those lehighs…
DW recommends a 500 break in period. My Razorback stopped having issues around the 450 round mark. That's cleaning every 50 rounds. Works fine now but the whole process was a pain. Lol
Beutiful gun I have a Colt delta elite I don’t know that is because is new. But I noticed that mine did the same thing that didn’t go back to battery but I noticed that does that when I use Wilson combat mags 9round with others mags works perfectly
I've only had 2 failure to go into battery in 600 rounds on mine. But a little secret I left the mag out and cycled the firearm empty for 500 cycles before I ever fired it. Also they need gun grease during break in after that I use Mobil 1 0w40 as my gun oil.
It's good that a large TH-camr finally shows that DW 10mms have an inherent problem. This gun will NOT break in. It will have to be sent in to DW to maybe be fixed.
From my point of view and I'm 66 years old this is a fine firearm. I like it a lot better than Glock 10. No plastic here! When I had Colt .45 1911 pistols years ago I used to put a slight chamfer and polish at edge where the ramp joined the chamber. I never had that out of battery problem after that. However, one cannot take off much about 0.0015".
That’s what gets people in trouble…unless you are very skilled and have serious tools your not gonna determine 0.0016” vs 0.0015”…I been at it a min and couldn’t come close to measuring that fine
@@charlesmullins3238 I use a 15X Peak optical comparator loupe so when I stone a little at that edge of the chamber I check it with the comparator. When set correctly one can see one's work and measure what's been done with the graduations on the glass disc.
