Hey Mark. As has been mentioned here already, I highly recommend that you take the bullbar off retrospectively for better access to all the areas that need painting especially behind the bar where there’s highly likely rust present that you would have missed. The bullbar will be held on with some pretty hefty bolts but not many. Whilst there, a bit of a light sand to get rid of any coating inconsistencies then apply another coat for a cleaner finish (spray would be best). I painted my bullbar with the Raptor coat and it cost about 4 times in comparison to the stuff you used which is pretty crazy I know but it seems to be really good stuff. Not sure what the setup on your Patrol is but with the bullbar off, you might want to consider installing a pair of good quality recovery points since they will more than likely also bolt onto the same mounts as your bullbar on the chassis. One less job for the future … just an idea
Good idea Rich. I will definitely consider it. For now I’m happy with the surface rust being gone but a full removal and redo may be in order for sure 👍 A set of recovery points are in order for sure
If you don't want aerial on bull bar GME 2.8 db aerials are awesome on bonnet hinge bracketvfrom Kaon or the like. 5 watt uhf soooo much better. You actually need both. Small ones handy for spotters.
I would sand it with wet and dry and spray it now with a can of Matt Black Wattyl Kill rust enamel spray paint. It's the go. So easy to touch up when you scratch it. Would look better overall and 20 bucks a spray can.
Perhaps an el cheapo pergola might have helped keep the sun off but agree with others might have been easier to take the bullbar off first. Interested to see you are keeping the bullbar after your previous videos saying why you shouldn’t add a bullbar to your prado for safety reasons.
I understand it could look contradicting. Firstly, it came with it and finding replacement stock bumpers are near impossible for less than $1000 inc shipping and paint. 2. This is built for tough tracks which will require a front bar 👍
Gooday, new subscriber here. Have you done a rear bumper replacement ? You've inspired me to do my bullbar now. Preparing my GU 2006 4.2TD for sale. Thanks for your time.
Hi mate! Thank you for subscribing. I didn’t do the rear bar. However, I did straighten it out with heat and I purchased a new rear light to replace the cracked and broken one. If I wasn’t selling it, I would have put a new bar on as the rear bar and lights cop it on the tracks
I don't want to put you down but as the old saying goes "the poor man pays twice" I get its a budget build but the bar defiantly needed to come off there is a lot of areas that aren't accessible while the bar is on. I think if you want to stick to a budget but in return have a good finished look just pay the little bit extra for the raptor spray can.
For $20 it went alright. When I sold it, the young fella liked it and it made a tired bar look better. To me, that’s a success. If I had more time to finish it, then I would’ve removed it. But it was supposed to be a quick and easy job. Horses for courses
Nice job buddy, if your looking for tips on how to get the ol girl looking pretty again look up, paint and paper hustle, on youtube, he does repaired write offs and is based in the states but his painting and repair tips are on point👍💯💯. If you do decide to do any painting yourself with compressor make sure its a decent belt driven one as you will get an overall more consistent flow.👍
Thank you for the advice Dwayne 👍 I’ll check out his channel. Interesting about the compressor. I’ll look into that to see if I can get one for decent price
@@NorthOz no probs buddy, im lucky to have a mate as a panel beater spray painter also👍👍,i mainly follow the channel i mentioned for his own projects ect as he is into drag racing and i love fast cars lol but he is fully self trained and boy can he paint.

Good idea. I might spring for one of those. Would look much tidier 👍
Personally Mark, next time I would have taken the bar off to do. Not a difficult job and well worth it.
Absolutely. In hindsight, I would recommend this for sure 👍
Cut a groove with grinder in aerial bracket, this makes easy to change aerial and still works fine.
Absolutely. A hole in the bracket was a terrible idea 👍

Great advice Richard 👍 I will look into it and $20 is reasonable
if your putting a roof rack on you can mount a small antenna on the roof and a hide away UHF units are very clean in the cab
Hmmm good idea. I could wire it up through the snorkel. A nice clean uhf in the cab is a must. Thanks for the idea Lee 👍

Great stuff 🔥
Thanks mate 🤙
If someone has cut that aerial cable its gonna have heaps of interference, you should replace it based on that alone.
Yeah it was dodgy to say the least. Definitely a bin job
Will look good with the camo body paint 😂
Haha 😂
Good job,, Truck looking Tuff 👍👍👍🇦🇺
Thanks mate 👍 It’s turning out great but there is still a lot to fix on it. Can’t wait to hit the tracks 🤙

Would’ve been easier to remove it then spray paint
Probably
please dont raptor coat your car its honestly worse looking than a spray can job
I agree. Bar work it’s fine but I just can’t appreciate it on a vehicle
If god were to gift me eternal life
I would simply turn it down
For a life without you
Is no different from death itself
Another amazing comment 🤙
sick video uve done really well fixing this up ! and eexplaining it all! great work ! Go the Patrol! 🛻🤙📹😎
next time just unbolt the bullbar !! its just like 4/6 bolts lol
Thanks mate 👍 good advice. Next time I’ll do that for sure 🤙
