Akrapovic Evolution Exhaust on 2023 Yamaha YZ450F Review

  • Back to back ride with (2) 2023 YZ450F's: One with completely stock exhaust and one with a full Akrapovic Evolution (Ti) exhaust system.
    The stock exhaust system on the new YZ450F is hard to beat for power and response. Low/Mid/Top the stock exhaust makes quick building smooth and strong power and has heat shields on both sides of the header as it wraps around the cylinder. The noise level is high (though slightly better than the '22 YZ450F) and there is no spark arrester.
    The Akrapovic Evolution (Ti) exhaust is about 2 lbs lighter than the stock system. Ridden back to back with both bikes in the stock EFI map the Akrapovic has a smoother RPM build noticeable mostly at the 0~1/4 initial turn of the throttle. The Akrapovic is quieter overall with a more deep and throaty sound. This system did not have the optional spark arrester installed but there is a screen and baffle visible inside the muffler. The Akrapovic uses the stock exhaust heat shield on the left side but has no provisions for the heat shield on the right side.
    The Akrapovic Evolution exhaust is lighter, quieter, and smoothes the throttle response and offers a spark arrester along with excellent build quality...all good things that help justify that very high price!

    Seems like the Akrapovic is really the icing on the cake with this bike. I think my 23 YZ450 is the best out of the box MX bike ive ever had. But being a Vet rider, the power is obviously tremendous. I think the Akra design and the way it shows to soften the power in just the right way seems like this completes the package. I just ordered the Akra as well, this I think was showing what I thought about it as well. It really makes the rideability that much easier and more friendly. I also don't mind it quieting the bike down a bit. Stock is pretty darn loud

      Thanks for your real world feedback! I really like the '23 YZ450 and have always liked Akrapovic slip on and full systems (high quality, great performance, and quieter than stock). You are going to really like the full Akrapovic system on your 23 YZ450F👍

      Yes deeper and slightly less sharp sound with the Akrapovic. High quality and high price....wish Akrapovic offered a slip on muffler

    What pro taper bars are you using and how much of a difference do you notice with them as far as compliance over stock?

    • @mxengineer1

      Pro Taper Evo SX Race bend. The stock bars feel very good to me and that is what I run on my '23 YZ450F.

    When I’m shopping for the akrapovic exhaust, it says for the 2023 yz450f… will it still fit my 2023 yz450fx?

    • @mxengineer1
      @mxengineer1  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question - your '23 YZ450FX is the previous chassis and engine. I recall on some of the early '23 YZ450F information only the slip on exhausts from the '22 YZ450F would fit on the new '23 YZ450F so my guess is the answer is no. Akrapovic does list a full exhaust for the 2022 YZ450F (but does not show the 22 YZ450FX) here though this is the previous muffler design.. www.akrapovic.com/en/moto/product/20742/Yamaha/YZ450F/2022?brandId=41&modelId=323&yearId=6510.
      Worth an email to Akrapovic to confirm fitment.

    Looks like the spark arrestor is in it.

      There is a baffle and screen down inside the muffler but it also came with a slip in cone shaped spark arrester that was not installed

      It is from LightSpeed. I have the same skid plate on my own '23 YZ450F and it is the one Star Racing Yamaha runs... www.lightspeedcarbon.com/

    Also, do you know the differences between the Akrapovic Evolution line and Racing line? Even juts the slip ons are not cheap!

    • @mxengineer1
      @mxengineer1  ปีที่แล้ว

      One line (Evolution I believe) uses Ti header while the other line uses stainless steel header - the mufflers on both lines are Ti.

    • @brutus6328
      @brutus6328 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mxengineer1 That's the only difference? The race line is stainless steel header vs Ti huh? No performance differences?
      Also, what are your thoughts on keeping the stock header on the SX-F 350? Everything I've read says KTM nearly guarantees you will NOT see much, if any, performance gains between their new header and an aftermarket header. How do you feel? Is it really worth it spending the extra money on the full exhaust for such minimal gains? Probably makes more sense to buy a slip on then spend the $$$ on a Vortex right?

      @@brutus6328 I have (2) experiences with full Akrapovic systems. First on my 21.5 KTM 450. Factory Edition. Came with slip on Akrapovic and I bought the full Akrapovic system with stainless header (the Akra slip on only works with stock header). The full system gave a little more upper mid to top end pull - not enough to justify the price in my opinion. Then I got a full Akrapovic Ti race system for my 21 KTM 350SXF Kailub Russell Edition - that complete system made a noticeable increase in power everywhere (especially low to mid), was quieter, and lighter - very good system and worth the price. I have a full Akrapovic Ti system for the 2023 KTM 350SXF/XCF models that is ready to test if and when I buy one of those bikes!

      Those gloves are from a full set of 2009 MSR Old Skool M9 riding gear I bought on close out back in 2009....wore the gear set for the first time with my new 2023 Husky TX300!
