Within the IPMWORKS project, the Chamber of Agriculture and Forestry of Slovenia - Institute of Agriculture and Forestry Maribor has tested various integrated pest management (IPM) strategies.
In vineyards, instead of chemical control of first and second generation grapevine moths, it was tested the mating disruption method (biotechnical plant protection method). The result after two years of testing was equivalent, or in some cases, better than chemical control.
In arable crops, we are tested the possibility of reducing herbicides in cereals by using mechanical weed control, namely harrowing.
In the fruit growing sector, we explored IPM alternatives to the use of glyphosate. In the first part, we included mechanical soil treatments in the research. After successfully obtaining results, we further enhanced these findings by monitoring low-seeded grasses and soybeans.
The results of these trials have proven effective and are being implemented in practice through the HUB and more broadly through public Agricultural Advisory Service.
