I'm from Brooklyn, NY and so is that guy @0:03. I, and a few friends of mine, would see him almost every day during the summer of '89, at a train station playing that bucket for money. We used to tease the shit out of him. One day, he wasn't at the train station. A whole year went by, we didn't see him. One day, while at the train station, I asked my friend "I wonder what happened to that guy who used to play the bucket for money over there?" (pointing at the spot where he played his bucket at on the train station). Then, one day in 1991, I turned the TV on and this video was playing. My mouth DROPPED when I saw him in the video. I said to myself "So THAT'S what happened to him." My moms said to me "I bet you won't tease anybody, again." And she was right. I never did, again.

Has anyone noticed how beautiful Mariah was back then? I have curls like this and I remember bringing pictures of her to my hairdresser back in those days. Early nineties Mariah Carey was my hair role model (and still is). And I was badly bullied because of my hair in those days. She gave me a reason not to bring any changes to my hair.

Beyond her talent, which is very plentiful, Mariah Carey possesses so much personality. That's why I just can't get it into my head when some people try to compare Ariana Grande to Mariah Carey. It's just too inconceivable for me to think like that, because from the day Mariah hit the ground, she lit up the world stage, she was just too original, set her own path, and never copied anyone, plus her personality as well. She just got the whole package.

When I first saw this on TV, Mariah was just coming out. I KNEW after seeing this video that she was going to be great! She has a voice like no other. I loved the kids and her dance moves too. Ok Whitney’s voice is God sent but I agree Mariah’s catalogue is interesting. Mariah wrote what she sang, she makes songs not only for people but for herself, for her own healing.

I know she wanted more control on her debut album and wish things were different but this is one of those rare moments when the label knew better and how to sell it and sell her to the public if she came out with a strictly ballad type album I dont think she would've broke out mainstream and this video is still fun and the song is catchy but also show cases her voice I wish she embraced this version more.
Judging by some of her early demos, I don't think it would be just ballads. But for sure more R&B.
