This is my review of the Hubsan FPV X4. This is a great entry-level RTF FPV package. Built on the incredibly successful Hubsan X4 platform, it is very stable and easy to fly, and a great size for flying indoors or outdoors in small areas. The range is not huge, and it can only penetrate 2 or 3 walls indoors before the signal starts to break up. But, I think this is fine for a entry-level FPV system, since you don't want to get too carried away with it while learning. The screen is nice and big and well-positioned, and the transmitter feels good in the hands. It is also capable of recording the video to a Micro SD card (sold separately).
Enjoy!

Bought one of these a week ago after a Rotor Riot video introduced me to FPV quads. So far I've been enjoying this little entry level drone even if it's over 2 years old. Your video's have helped me keep the thing under control in my first flights.
Glad to hear that! :)
Rotor Riot!
Hi ya. I bought mine about a year ago. It's a pretty good little quad. I think it's nearly as good as the H507A+ , the $40 GPS FPV Hubsan.
This one is ,,like Ryan was. Hard to fly FPV with gggles indoors. Outside its fantastic!!!
Th bet part is the built in color TFT LCD Monitor. At 4.3" it's about the same size as most cell phones.
I really like mine. If you're interested in, and just starting out with FPV, this is the one to get.
Hey Ryan, thanks for the help in helping me choose the right quad, the first one i got was a hubsan x4. I watch regularly and hope your channel will be successful in the long run.
Matt
Matthew Mikolay Thanks! :)
This video is the beginning of popular fpv sport. I miss your videos. Hope you will start making video again. Not unsubscribing on you at all.
Best review for all rc. Watching most of your vids. Thanks for the awesome videos and responding to my questions!!!
Awesome, thanks a lot for the compliments! Glad you enjoy my videos. :)
I've said this to gaming but for rc helicopters I think your the best at rc
xXGamingTigerXx Thanks, I really appreciate that! :)
Thanks again Ryan! Always appreciate your reviews!!!
Glad you like them! The only other option in this price range (for quads) would be the Walkera Ladybird FPV, but I would imagine the Hubsan is better. But this is very low-end FPV. The range is not as good as you would get from a custom FPV build, but that would cost hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars.
I just got my quadcopter today. It's my first so I have a bit of learning to do.
UmmNotQuiteSureToPut Check out this video of mine for some tips to help you get started: th-cam.com/video/N4qJNgV0DGI/w-d-xo.html
Flyin' Ryan RC Thanks for the advice. Going to try the step by step flying techniques, like the box flight.
Liking the Flitetest shirt!
Thanks for posting these reviews. Very helpful for a beginner!
Thanks! I'm glad you find them helpful! :)
I want fpv that's good connection and no lag. I don't like flying with a 2 second lag cause it's unusable. so is this one good? and what's range of pfv and does it cut out allot
+The Tech Table If it has 5.8ghz FPV, as opposed to WiFi, there is no lag. As for range, I have no idea.
Ryan I don't know if you've seen the customisation videos on TH-cam, but 1 is about creating a better antenna. By pointing it up and just using simple materials you can practically double the range!! :)
+Alex Cook hey could you link me one of these videos on the antenna mod? i'm interested in doing it to mine.
you can ad a neck strap to this, that's what the holes under the screen are for, the other holes around the screen are for a shade
keyproductions100 The holes don't work with a strap that has a metal clip though. It would require some sort of string or something.
have you tried a small key ring loop? where there's a will there's a way
keyproductions100 Yeah, that would probably work too. My comment was more of a suggestion to Hubsan. I review things as they come out-of-the-box, without having to mod anything, etc.
Thanks for all your reviews
+Nathan Wait My pleasure!
My friend got one of these! looking forward to flying my x dart alongside his x4 :D
NintendoFTW Nice. :)
I think this is the one I'm going to break (pardon the pun) into FPV with.
I was looking at larger, costlier flyers but I'm not ready for that stuff yet and I just love how my X4 L handles, though I don't have much else to compare it to other than an Estes Syncro and the Radio Shack Surveyor Drone.
I like the wide angle lens mods I've seen and look forward to modding this one as well, should I take the plunge.
edit
Trigger pulled!
FPV, my fence, maybe a tree...here I come!
***** It was my first FPV quad too, and I think it's a good one to start with. :)
Thanks Ryan!
awesome dude I love dronse
+Michael Thompson I just took the plunge should be here next week
New sub! Your vids helped me decide which quad I should get and I am getting this one. Thanks!
Parker Industries Thanks! And I'm glad you found my videos helpful. :)
finally a well done review! really a wonderful price for an fpv entry lev 4copter, I've just bought it and waiting for the shipping, i really cannot wait!!!
do you know if there is any way to improve the flight time? and to enhance the transmitter range?
thank you in advance!!!
***** Thanks, glad you liked my review! Be sure to check out my other videos of this quad too. There is a 500mAh battery that will extend the flight time a bit, but not much. And extending the transmitter range would require some serious hardware modding, and adding bigger and more powerful antennas.
Flyin' Ryan RC Thank you for the prompt answer, I've just bought a 500 mah lipo battery, but now I'm really confused about the kind of antennas that i have to choose, (2,4 and 5,8 Ghz) .. there are many types of these.. I'll post a video once done just to share this hack :)
***** Yeah, I don't really know anything about that stuff, so I'm of no help there. heh Good luck!
FliteTest shirt!!!!!
Cool man!
:)
i will have 2 fpv quads i ordered this one off aamzon i look forward to flying it :)
6 Minutes is pretty decent really considering this is a mini quad and you can just buy extra batteries for it, and may I ask what batteries this quar uses I just ordered one and might buy some more batteries for it?
I Love your Flite Test Shirt!!! You look kinda like Alex
+GameGuardian Hah, I suppose Alex and I do sort of look alike. Never really thought about that before. :)
Cool video sir!
Greg Howell Thanks, I'm glad you like it! :)
Flyin' Ryan RC np!!!!
Instead of an inbuilt screen it would be good if they left a slot for you to slot an iPhone in there so you could have a much clearer screen and save videos easier
I wonder why they dont make a mode 1 version, seems silly to cut out half of your potentual customers.
Are the batterys hooked up in series in the tx? You could always try putting a 2 cell battery on the transmiter.
Ethan Ford I have no idea… batteries are not my strong area of knowledge. I just use rechargeable AAs, and that works fine. :)
You mentioned in your video The transmitter go through batteries very quickly so I was wondering how many flights it's getting before the transmitter needs to replace the batteries ?
+Jeff Warhawk I don't know. I do know it uses batteries quickly, because it is running a backlit monitor, but I have no idea the exact duration of battery life.
some say this is the best drone :)
"Best" is a very relative term, so it's impossible to say any one drone is the all-around "best" drone. There are different purposes for drones, and different needs for pilots, so which is "best" depends entirely on those needs and purposes.
U should try the jjrc h6d which is a really nice fpv quad
+Nathan Wait Yeah, I will be reviewing that soon. :)
i need a quick response planing to buy it by the end of the week greetings from switzerland
Great video I was wondering how many flights your transmitter gets before the batteries go out ?
+Jeff Warhawk I have no idea.
Ryan! Never knew you knew Flite Test.
faddy fekbear Don't all RC enthusiasts know Flite Test? ;)~
I guess!!
Oye Como se llama ese circulo para las aspa se ve Bien
Hi Ryan,
Not sure if this has been asked before, but does the TX that ships with this quad work others H107 range ?
theimacman
I'm not sure what exactly you mean by "work others H107 range", but this TX can be used with any other Hubsan product, as far as I know.
That's what I meant, Thanks for the quick reply 😊
Glad to help! :)
i moved to florida and its a living hell, hoping to move back to MN asap, i dont want to even leave my place so wanna fly fpv indoors, is the h107d good for flying fpv indoors? if i go outside, how many mph wind can it handle? thinking ill use these with my fatshark goggles since the h107d has a 5.8ghz v transmitter.
+TheRoshan89 It is small enough for indoors, but the FPV will only penetrate a couple walls or so. And it can handle a good bit of wind... maybe 10mph.
Flyin' Ryan RC oh thats pretty good
Got my Hubsan FPV X4 today! Super excited to take it out for a spin. Will try and take some night time footage here in Dubai tonight. I dont think the camera is going to be great for ntf though? Have you tried the cam at night? PS thanks for the good vids, bought my JJRC 1000A and Hubsan X4 thanks to your reviews.
SuperClivo Yeah I highly doubt the camera will work at all in low light. This camera is meant more for just FPV, not really meant for filming. Glad my videos have helped in your choices! :)
Flyin' Ryan RC, this is how it went down. 1.Took it out the box. 2.Did a 1 min test flight indoors. 3.Took it outside (9 pm). 4.Flew around a building and lost video signal. 5.Never saw the quad again. 6.Ordered a new one this morning, lets hope I get more than 2 min flight time from the new one.... PS best 2 min flight ever! hahah
SuperClivo LOL! Sorry to hear that, but at least you have a good attitude about it. :)
Flyin' Ryan RC its Christmas and i asked for that drone and i got it but it does not fly when i have a full charged battery and at full max on the left stick
+casey lee Maybe the props are on in the wrong positions. I discuss that in more detail in this video: th-cam.com/video/N4qJNgV0DGI/w-d-xo.html
Can you make a review of the Proto x fpv please I'm really interested in both of this quad copters. In your opinion which one do you think is best? I think the Proto x fpv has better flight time and quality in the screen. And can you tell me why you choose is the best. Hi san x4 fpv or Proto x fpv? Can you tell me please?
Pls reply
steve jones I am working on the Proto X FPV review. A few technical difficulties have delayed my review a lot, but it is coming soon, I swear! :) It's hard to say which is better... the Proto X FPV definitely has better video (since it can be recorded in HD) and has a wide-angle lens, which makes FPV flying much easier. However, the quad itself is not as stable as the Hubsan X4 FPV, and much less durable, which is a bit nerve-racking when flying FPV. I don't feel like the Proto X FPV will handle a bad crash at all, and it has no prop guards, making it risky to fly in tight areas, like where it might bounce off walls.
Ok, good luck on the review!
What would it take to bind this to my Turnigy 9x?
I'd like to have something like this to fly indoors or for fun and especially to get better at head-in flying.
Does the 'C' model have a higher resolution camera (recording onboard)?
I don't think that is possible, and you certainly wouldn't get any video on your 9X, since it doesn't have a screen. The C model definitely has a better camera.
It does have a neck strap clip at the bottom of the screen look at my video hubs an fpv bracket strap
Yeah, I noticed that hole, but I wasn't able to get my neckstrap to fit in it. Looks like yours has a different style of clamp than mine does.
Hey I watched your 107d videos a couple times actually in the last couple weeks...I ended up ordering one myself and I'm sure it'll be here any day now. But I was looking more extensively into the amazon reviews yesterday and was seeing that A LOT of people seem to be havin an issue with the screen on the remote going out permanently after only a short amount of use even. A couple people even said smoke and a funny smell started comin out of it when the screen died....I was just wondering if you happened to experience that yourself in any capacity considering you've had this quad for a year now. Thanks.
Adam Thieme I have not had that problem, but I also have not flown mine in a long time. Just keep in mind that people go out on the internet to complain about problems, so when you look at online reviews at places like Amazon, you are likely to find a much higher concentration of negative reviews, than of positive reviews. Happy customers rarely go give positive reviews… or certainly much less than unhappy customers go give negative reviews. So while it may seem like a lot of people reporting that problem, there are significantly more people *not* reporting that problem. ;) I also think that a lot of those people tend to cause problems themselves, and then not admit to it. ;) So, what I'm saying is, don't let those negative reviews worry you much. And if you do have a problem, hopefully whoever you bought it from has good customer support and will help resolve the issue for you. :)
good review, iv thehubsan spyhawk fpv plane.......any idea if the fpv controller will work on the h107d?
Thanks! Yes, I believe you can. :) According to this page: www.spyhawkfpv.com/pages/frequently-asked-questions
Can I buy just the new Hubsan H107D FPV Quad Copter without the remote and use it with my existing SpyHawk Remote?
Yes! We are currently working on making the H107D available as a standalone purchase without the remote. Sign up for our mailing list to be notified when they are available.
Hey, so I ordered this quad and loved it I had it for about a month but then the front left propeller won't spin.I tried recalibrating, new propellers, pushing it to get it started and different batteries. It just spins slowly then the one propeller will cut off. Please help I loved it when it worked. Thanks in advanced :)
+Noah Bryant Sounds like the motor is probably just dead.
ok thx.. but would you recommend the Hubsan FPV X4 (H107D) for a new FPV flier.
I'm looking for an inexpensive FPV mini quadcopter, do you have any suggestions? Thanks
Thanks for replying to all of my comments I do appreciate if but do you know a good quadcopter with a fpv for around 180 or under? I really like the fpv. Also I do have am android of I need to download an app thanks
Nathan vecchione None of the WiFi FPV systems are fast enough to truly be FPV, so I would say avoid those. As for 5.8ghz FPV under $180, your only options are this Hubsan X4 FPV and the Walkera Ladybird FPV.
Thanks
And now the v666 from bg which may be a bit more but only buy about 15
DA_ASIAN_AUSTRALIAN! And I should be getting one to review, I believe. :)
YEAH!
hey i really like your videos, and it's weird i feel like i've been in your kitchen before! i was thinking of buying just a regular x4 then mounting an fpv setup on it using a dream catcher frame. do you think this micro could support an fpv setup?
+illpoet13 Hmm, that's a tough call. I don't really know a ton about FPV, so I don't know what sort of weight you'd be looking at for an FPV system you could add to this. Seems like it couldn't possibly be as light as the stock FPV gear in the X4 FPV, so you'd probably end up with a pretty heavy and poor-performing quad. I really have no idea though. Seems like if you were going to go that route, with a stock frame, and custom FPV gear, you might as well go all-out and built a brushless motor system too. Maybe start with something like the Super-X, and add FPV gear to that?
Flyin' Ryan RC
yeah you are right, and i was eventually hoping to build a custom brushless fpv micro for flying around the house. the system i was looking at weighs around 30g so i'll prob end up just going for a ground up build. heh, once i can get the money saved up that is. I have the 107d coming to tide me over anyways. thanks!
+illpoet13 The H107D will be much better for flying in the house. A brushless quad will be too fast and powerful for that sort of flying, I would think. Oh wow, yeah, the X4 can't lift 30g.... that's quite heavy for a micro quad. I couldn't even get mine to lift an 808 Keychain Cam, which I think was around 20g.
Hi. I have a problem. I just got this kit and have been having issues trying to get it calibrated. First of all, the stick controls seem to be reversed. That is, the elevator trottle is on the right trottle instead of the left, which seems more appropiate for me. I have read the manual where it says I should set this in the setups. I have already check it and it is in normal mode; but the controls are still operating in reverse mode. How do I change this? I even did the re-calibrating of the transmitter by holding the two sticks in the upper corner and circling 3 times then pushing a button but nothing. Please tell me how to get this thing back to normal operating controls. Thank you.
I don't really understand what you are saying. Throttle (up and down) and yaw (rotate left and right) should be on the left stick, and pitch (forward, backward, left, right) should be on the right stick.
You should do a review over on the Flite Test website!
I love Flite Test, but have never visited their forums. What do reviews there consist of? Written? I don't do written reviews, but I would post my videos there, if they allow that.
theimacman Absolutely. They have both a forum, where you can post anything you like, and they have a section for posting "instructables" like posts, which can consist of just a video, but some written description would be welcome as well. If you visit the forums, look up user "FlyingMonkey". I'll help you get squared away.
Fred Provost Thanks, I'll have to look into that! I keep pretty busy with Facebook and RCGroups, but Flite Test has shared my channel on their Facebook, and I can use as many viewers as I can get, so it would probably be to my benefit to get set up to post on their site as well. :)
Hi Ryan,
Not sure if this has been asked before, but does the TX that ships with this quad work others H107 range ?
I'm not sure what exactly you mean by "work others H107 range", but this TX can be used with any other Hubsan product, as far as I know.
Thanks for the quick reply! What would be a better FPV option close to this price range? Thanks!
For this price range, nothing. You can have cheapest or best... you can't have both. :)~
Do the LEDs help you visually while you fly? Are they needed? Eliminating them would probably reduce your power consumption by 20mA or more
1timejohn Only if you are flying line-of-sight. They don't do anything when flying FPV. And you can turn them off from the transmitter. They make very little difference though… maybe extend the flight time by 30 seconds if you turn them off.
Man that camera gear adds quite an increase in price. Sure looks like a crazilly fun little toy though.
Yeah, FPV is expensive. Still quite affordable, compared to building your own FPV system though. And this Tx can be used with other Hubsan FPV products, so you could buy BNF versions of those.
Flite Test Shirt!
Croom/AileronRC :D
Go Flite Test!
FliteTest!
Man the HUBSAN X4 PLUS H107C+ looks Sweet, Will you be reviewing it when it is released ?
WEASEL LIPS I sure plan on it. :)
Thinking of getting one. How does the FPV work outside? Can you see the FPV screen in the daylight ok? Or is it like trying to look at a smartphone in the sunlight?
stackedhippiechick I have another video of me flying this outside, if you want to check it out. It works well, but the range isn't massive. The screen can be hard to see in daylight, so you'd want to stand in shade. Some people have made their own screen shades as well, like out of cardboard, etc.
Thanks Ryan, I will check it out.
Does the extra weight from the fpv camera slow it down much? Or is it comparable to the h107l or h107c in performance?
+Nick M It's basically the same as the H107C. The FPV gear doesn't add much extra weight.
Great video Ryan , the next week i´ll take this little one XD. What can you tell me about the range in indoors/outdoors? Can i sit in the livingroom and fly around the house?
Greetings from Spain :)
LinkVSganondorf24 It can only penetrate one or two walls before the signal starts to really break up.
Flyin' Ryan RC Ok thank´s Ryan :)
I am a beginner so I thought I'd start with one of these. Should it be a constant struggle just to get it to hover in place?
believenthe1133 Yep, you have to constantly fly it in order to get it to hover. No quad will hover in place without pilot input, unless it has GPS.
Hi Ryan, I wanted to know if you could help m with something. I got my Hubsan X4 h107D and it flew great and O got the 500 mAh battery and they worked fine. I got about a litt more and a min extra flight time. But I never had any major crashes or anything. I simply put up the Hubsan for about a week and now the battery's die after about 5 sec.! I tryed all my battery's and I tryed new chargers and everything I could thing of. Is there any suggestions on what to do or what the problem might be>
rAdiant Jet Hmm, well LiPos can go bad if stored fully charged, or allowed to fully discharge. But it should take more than a week of being stored fully charged for them to go bad. I'm not really sure what'd going on there. :/
rAdiant Jet
Are the 500 mah or other larger batteries commonly available for this? Sorry I'm not sure exactly what to look for or what would be compatible with this, thanks
Hai Fail
500 mAh is the max size due to the size of the mini-quad.
Hello Ryan! I have one x4 h104d mode1, am using it about 2 months, and one nice morning (today), transmitter changed into mode 2,without entering into transmitters menu. Have you experienced something similar? Thanks for your time.
Taindog I'm not sure how that could happen. Mode 1 is throttle on the right, and Mode 2 is throttle on the left, so it would require hardware modding in order to make that change...
Hey Ryan just wondering if you'd prefer the syma x5c for video photography more than this
Alonzo chiongbian Definitely. FPV quads are not good for videography because they have low-resolution cameras, so that the video can be streamed in real time. This is definitely meant more for FPV flying than filming. The X5C has a 2MP HD camera, so the video quality is much better. You might also check out the JJRC H8C (which I haven't reviewed yet).
@ flyin Ryan hey thanks. Gonna check it out now saved me there I was about to order it for aerial photography thanks
The transmitter has more conectors. I dont know whats is for?
Ryan, I just got one of these. In Stability Mode, I find that pirouette cause the quad to veer off. Do you get that too?
Dave Cooper Sounds like you need to recalibrate the accelerometer.
Flyin' Ryan RC yes, I did that and all is now good. Many thanks.
Will this work with Fatshark v2 goggles? I just bought the bnf version Hubsan X4 107D. When I plug in the battery the camera transmits the signal to the goggles and works fine. When I bind the quad to my transmitter the fpv signal stops. I think it's defective but the store thinks it's my setup.
+lofreq What is your transmitter?
+Flyin' Ryan RC Devo 7e fully modified and running deviation firmware. I found out that the quad changes the frequency every time it's bound. So I could change the reception channel until I get a picture. I tried it, but with the quad bound still no picture. While doing this I did get a picture when the battery was plugged in but not bound.
lofreq No idea.... that's weird. I don't see any reason the radio would have anything to do with it, especially since they are on different frequencies.
Hi guys, I'm new to the drone world. I was wondering if, as a beginner, I should get the Hubsan FPV X4 or the the Hubsan X4 H107C. Thanks!
It depends on what you want to do if you want fpv (my personal favourite) you get h107d but if you want to do photography you want the h107L
H107C pardon me
It says on Banggood and a local shop that sells these that the charging time is around 30 min, is it acctually 30 min or does it take around 1 hour or so as you say?
+Joel “Exruz” Andersson My times are actual real-world measured times that I get by averaging numerous charges. So my times are REAL. The times you see quoted on sites are often wrong and made to look better. That is why reviewers like me do what we do. ;)
+Joel “Exruz” Andersson That being said, a one-hour charge is actually more healthy for the battery. A 30min charge would be a high-rate charge, and that would shorten the overall lifespan of the battery.
does it share common parts with h107c? like props batteries motors etc? im just getting ok with the h107c
Rob S Yep! The frame/camera is obviously different, but the props, motors, and batteries are interchangeable between the H107D and H107C. The H107L, though, has smaller motors.
Anyone have a recommendation for a quad copter that does video recording from £100 to £200? preferably 2080p and at the least 720p
Cheers
Damian Hockey Check out the Syma X5C or JJRC H8C (review coming soon).
Cheers man big help :)
what transmitter mode is your in and can you change the transmitter mode? mine is in mode I with right hand throttle but I am right handed so it does not work.
Mine is Mode 2. You can change modes, but it doesn't really work well, since to do it right you need to sticks to change too. In Mode 2 the left stick stays where you put it, and the right stick centers itself. For Mode 1, you want that behavior reversed. Changing modes in this transmitter changes what the sticks control, but it does not change the physical behavior of the sticks, so you end up with a throttle stick that centers itself, and that's not good.
How did you get the ring protector around the wing things? is that separate?
v73p You can pull the props ("wing things") off, and then put on the protector, and then put the props back on. :)
ok thanks :)
I wish u could do a review on this one WIFI FPV RC Quadcopter RTF 2.4GHz UDI U818S 4CH 6Axis Quadcopter
+wolf11 I did review that, but not the WiFi version.
+Flyin' Ryan RC ok do u know anything about that kind of controller because that what really caught my eye it looks so cool very easy to fly
wolf11 That controller will only work for thumb flyers, first and foremost. And, it wouldn't be any easier to fly than any other controller. It is still the same two stick controller as any other controller, but in a form that looks like some sort of real aircraft yoke.
+Flyin' Ryan RC would it be good for a beginner
+wolf11 No, if you have no flying experience, this is my suggestion for beginners: th-cam.com/video/N4qJNgV0DGI/w-d-xo.html
Do you know how to customize it with a custom antenna for better signal
Ratboy9446 No, I don't mess with mods like that.
how do you keep the hover, i can do it pretty good but it will eventually start drifting down.
NetherAnimations (Gaming and Animation) I am constantly making small stick inputs in order to hold a hover.
oh thanks, that works for me too :D
so did yours come with a prop guard ? i just got one from Bangood no guard ....BUT they are on sale $69 ..till 10-10-15
+ST Logan Yes, there should be a guard taped to the under side of the plastic inside the box. But, I've heard of many people that didn't get one.
I like this and I think I am going to get one! But how much fly time do you get and can you get a battery upgrade?
I believe I mentioned the flight time in the video. I don't recall the actual time, but it's fairly short... like 5-6min. You can get a 500mAh battery upgrade, but the extra weight counters most of the extra capacity, so it only extends the flight time by maybe a minute.
Flyin' Ryan RC I ended up buying this and found a battery upgrade that is 600mAh and it says you should get about 10 min flight time. I got it for a really good price. $130 with free shipping from banggood. com
Andre Jitta I highly doubt that 10min flight, at least not with this FPV X4. Maybe with the standard X4. Report back to me with your findings though! :)
Flyin' Ryan RC Yeah I should get it in a few days and I will try and record it to see what kind of real flight time I will get with the 600.
Does that protective rotor guard come with the quad copter?
Lorraine Powers Yes
nice flite test t-shirt
+rc hobbies :)
Hi, does the controller comes along with the quad copter??or separately? Thanks
Japheth Joseph You can get it either way. RTF = Ready To Fly (and comes with the transmitter). BNF = Bind And Fly (quad only, and requires you already have a transmitter)
Hey Ryan I wanted to ask you which would you recommend to get next, this Hubsan or the Helimax 1sq V-Cam? I got my replacement Estes today and my replacement Hubsan a couple days ago. The X4 is great and I love using it outdoors but now I want to get one more quad with a camera. I have a budget of $230 so these two fit in my price range. I know you and a lot of other users had trouble with the V-Cam footage freezing. Does the H107D have similar issues when recording? I have only read that some people have problems where the camera stops working or something along those lines for the hubsan. Which flies better or is more stable? One more question, what is the battery life when recording and not recording for both quads. Thanks again, I appreciate your feedback.
Well, if you are looking to record video, this is not really meant for that. This is meant for FPV, so the video is lower quality than say the Hubsan X4 with 2MP Camera (H107C). And, any signal interference you get from the FPV signal also shows up in the recorded video. That doesn't happen with a dedicated camera quad, like the H107C. The V-Cam flies great... I prefer its flight characteristics to the H107C. The camera can be iffy, but they may have fixed that issue. I haven't heard many complaints about it lately. And the video quality is quite good, for a built-in camera. And you can remove the camera if you want, making the quad even better for just flying. Whereas the camera on H107C is built into the body. I don't recall the battery times, but I believe I give all that info in my reviews of each of those quads. Running the camera doesn't seem to have much affect on the battery life, in my experience. Hope that helps!
Yes thank you that helps a lot! That answered most of my questions. Would you happen to know which camera has better quality between the H107C and the V-Cam? I just want to know out of curiosity. I can't find specific details on the quality for the V-cam other than "High Definition Quality."
Chancho818 I don't own the 2MP H107C, so I haven't been able to compare the video quality first-hand, but based on what I've seen posted by others, the video quality of the two quads is very comparable.
theimacman Ah okay then. I will choose between the 2MP H107C or the 1SQ V-cam. By the way do you know if the original 1SQ canopy and orange props fit on the V-cam version? I wasn't sure if maybe they are slightly different in size. I really like the look of the original 1SQ over the V-cam so just in case I get it I would like to order the canopy and props. Also where do you store your LiPos? I have read that they should be kept in a special container in case they ignite or something.
Yep, the 1SQ body fits the V-Cam perfectly. There are also 4 other colors. I put green on mine… looks awesome! www.helimax-rc.com/helicopters/hmxe0836-1sqvcam/hmxe0836-bodies-lg.jpg
LiPos can pose a fire hazard, but mainly while charging, or in use. I don't worry much about them in storage. If you wanted to be safe, you could keep them in an army surplus bullet box or something like that. Something non-flamable, basically. :)
hey ryan i cant seem to git my x4 to huver right i did all the adjustments i dont no if i should take it out side scared i will lose it lol what should i do you make it look so easy
In what way do you think it is not hovering right? Check for prop damage… bent props can cause instability.
Need to change props also bought one of the higher amp batterys and the tight fit made one of my lights to stop working what a hassle
What drone would you recommend for a beginner like me? I like to shoot pics and videos too when flying.
amihan99 I generally recommend the UDI U816A to learn on. It is cheap, relatively easy to fly, and well-protected for crashing. But, it does not have a camera. You will probably want/need to practice simply flying, though, before you get into shooting aerial videos.
Flyin' Ryan RC thanks! Yea i think i will practice first. After the udi 816a what drone will you recommend for taking videos and pictures?
amihan99 Depending on what size you want, I would suggest the Hubsan X4 (H107C) or JJRC H6C for micros. And the Syma X5C and JJRC H8C for bigger quads. :)
There are already a loop-strap in the transmitter
DJI Phantom Yes, but it doesn't work with metal strap hooks. It looks like it would only work with string, or something like that.
it works for me with metal strap hooks, it's just a little tricky
hi i want same frome ware i cane ordered its what abut batrry is it good how longe you can flaying thanks it's nice
Hey Ryan! Is this still the best/cheapest FPV quad today? I'm assuming it can be modded for longer flight times and longer FPV range?
Yes, I believe it is still the cheapest FPV quad... definitely not the "best" though. And you can put a bigger battery in it for a bit longer flights. Extending FPV range would require some hardware modding that I am not familiar with.
Hi Ryan, I have this 107D for a while now, it's a great little flying Quad Copter, Do you know that Is the latest model on these Mini Quad's With HD Camera on the Market? Would like to purchase another one , and also would like to be able fly it with my 107D Receiver. Thanks for your Help :o)
I did not review the new H107D+ because I didn't care for the H107C+, so I didn't think it was worth reviewing the FPV version too.
Drone bagus,kamera bagus,harga murah
How did you put it in expert mode? Just starting off so need info on everything. Thanks, Jo.
+Joanne Taylor I discussed how to do stuff like that in the review. You change rates ("expert mode" is high rates) by clicking the right stick.
Thanks for your patient, if not, concise and clear response! Bet you are single!
+Joanne Taylor LOL, what does being single have to do with it?
Is this the best (or only?) FPV nano quad out or are there others?
You seem to be quite experienced with these so I was wondering...
I thought it was the only, but apparently there is also a Walkera Ladybird FPV quad. I have no experience with that one though, so I can't really compare them. The screen on the Hubsan looks bigger, at least. This is the Ladybird one: www.banggood.com/Wholesale-Walkera-QR-Ladybird-V2-FPV-RC-Quadcopter-With-Devo-F4-RTF-Mode-2-p-66094.html?p=Z431161082112012126P
How do I put the protective peace of plastic on the drone ? Do I take the wings off ?
Yes, you have to remove the props in order to slide the prop guard over the motor mounts. Make sure you put the props back on in the proper places.
okay
thanks !
Hey ryan. I have a question. Im lookin to get a fpv quad. 3 on my mind are. Blade nano fpv, proto x fpv, or the hudson. Im liking the goggle idea on the blade nano. Plus we all know how well the nano flies :) what is your opinion on these 3?
TheBigb1973 The Nano QX is definitely the best choice, but it's also by far the most expensive. My Proto X FPV review will be coming out soon. It is a rebranded and redesigned X4 FPV, but has made some nice improvements over the X4 FPV… notably a wide-angle lens and ability to record in HD from the quad itself. However, the quad itself seems less durable (and has no prop guards or frame), and a bit less stable. It is a nice flyer though, and the big battery gives decently long flights for an RTF FPV.
The only downfall (which may not be a big deal) is there isnt a recording option. But that damn nano is so awesome. Durable as hell, no tools needed to change things out. Quiet too.
TheBigb1973 I believe you can record from the goggles.
will you be getting the nano fpv at all?
TheBigb1973 If I do, it won't be until after winter. There's just nothing I could do with it right now, so I might as well wait, and see if maybe the price comes down a bit by then.
What is the maximum distance from remote during flight, not including the FPV or video footage,?
Alex Gertz Not sure. I don't do range testing.
Do you think a a chip from this would fit in a Hubsan H107l frame?
+Carl McDougal A chip? You mean the flight controller? I would imagine they are the exact same in each X4 model, so I see no reason why it wouldn't fit.
From watching most of your vids on quads in my price range I am thinking about the following :
Syma x5
Hubsan FPV X4 (H107D)
JJRC H8C
Which do you recommend for the longest flight time, best to learn on and preferably FPV.
Thanks in advance.
Ruben Lewis If you have no RC flying experience, I wouldn't suggest starting with any of those, and especially not FPV... you need to learn line-of-sight flying first. Check out my "Beginner's Guide To Quadcopters" video for my suggestions and info.
Thanks for the quick response and good advice!
does it come with the blade guards in box because i bought it on amazon and i want to know if it comes with blade guards because i,m a indoor flyer
+HobbyDrones It should, but I've heard that some people didn't get one. You can buy them separately if you need to.
thanks for telling me
Is the video transmitter together with hubsan h107d if i buy it or i must buy the video transmitter separately?
Depends on which version you buy. RTF comes with the quad and transmitter. BNF is the quad alone.
Would this be a good step up from the jj/rc h6c?
Kaizer and Maddy Rox Those type of questions are hard for me to answer, since "step up" doesn't really mean anything and is relative to each person's point of view. If you want to get started in FPV, this is a good start. However, it's not really anything like the H6C, since that is a video quad, and this is an FPV quad. This is not intended for filming, so the camera is pretty low quality.
I used my quanum pro v2 (wirelessly) with the hubsan x4, but now the screen on the transmitter does not display any image. Any ideas why this is happening?
Maybe try changing through the frequencies in the menu on the transmitter?
How to change between mode1 and mode 2 on this? I'm getting one on ebay and i don't know if it is mode one or two!
The throttle is in the left stick
Wonderfull remote control of the four motors.
It´s a pity battery lasts only five minutes.
My new technology of rotating field electric machines could help a lot for bigger quadcopters
you mean....generators?
I mean new topology Rotating Field synchronous and asynchronous generators and motors.
+ASEPRAUTO S.L. i was actually thinking of that but i was doubting that i might be wrong
is the battery interchangeable? what is the longest flight you've ever gotten out of it? I was considering buying one until I found out about the battery life.. LOL
Kyle Leslie Yes the battery is interchangeable, and I discussed flight times in the video (I don't recall them off the top of my head right now). The flight time is pretty standard for this size quad though.
oh good. I just started finding out abut this quads.. I think it is very cool how you can put cameras on them with these fat shark virtual glasses.. I wanted to find out if you could hook up these glasses to the controller because that would be a bottom line factor for me.. thanks for taking the time to respond!
Kyle Leslie I don't know a lot about Fat Shark, but I do believe you can connect them to this quad. :)
That's awesome. I just bought mine an hour ago, I can't wait to fly it!! ;)
