    3:25 It’s always the kid quiting the team but when a coordinator takes a head coaching job same time and leaves to get recruiting at the new school it’s congratulatory. They are the same thing.

      If a player wants a spot on an other teams roster to start then when the semester ends and begins 100% matters. The fact that you don’t like it is irrelevant.

    The only solution is to move the CFB schedule forward. The academic calendar will continue to disrupt the sport including the portal. There is no other way to delay the portal unless the academic standards are lowered and/or shifted for "student-athletes"

    People always ready to blame the kids, who have the least power, and not the adults who created this environment.
    So while the college presidents, ADs, HCs, NCAA, TV networks were only about their money, could leave when they wanted and still receive huge buyouts, and made sure the kids didn't get a dime it was fine. Now that the players get a little bit of the pie, but still none of the TV/media money, it's a problem that needs to be addressed immediately.
    Where CFB is today could've been prevented decades ago if the adults just weren't so greedy, among other things. Can't be mad at the players for playing the game the adults created.

      So while those who held all the power, college presidents, ADs, HCs, TV networks were about "my agenda, my opportunities" my money, and could leave when they wanted it was fine.     Easy fix. If you accept NIL money, it is a 3 year commitment, unless the head coach leaves.

    Another issue is the Spring semester has already started while the College Football playoff is happening. This forces players to leave before the end of the playoffs so they can be enrolled at the new institution.

    This is not a new issue. Players have been playing behind other players since the dawn of time. You either wait until you are the starter or you transfer.

    It can’t be fixed unless the season is shortened and ends before the end of the calendar year in order for the transfer student to enroll for spring semester.

    A local kid played for the Pats and then for the Lions. So Belichek and Mariucci. He said it was night and day. Bill didn't even know who some players on his own squad were or their names. Just a few names of starters. Mooch was the opposite. He said the only thing that kept him at NE was Charlie Weis.

      ​@dm3132 it nearly did become a major issue if Army had to cancel their Bowl game without a suitable replacement for Marshall. Army was a top 25 team and conference champion that almost didn't get to play a postseason game.

    Saban left Kent State, West Virginia, Ohio State, Navy, MSU, LSU, Houston Oilers, Cleveland Browns, Miami Dolphins and Alabama to ESPN. None of you had a problem with leaving in the middle of the night. Urban Meyer quit on teams at the worst time none of your whined. Harbaugh left at the worst time no one said a word.

    Penn State's backup hasn't even played at all in garbage time. He has zero game snaps at Penn State, only scout team snaps in practice.

      Categorically untrue. Did play in garbage time and was a factor in a comeback win to Wisconsin. Played last year too. Had a package specifically designed for him before AK came in as OC infamously known as the “Beau Pribula package” AK gave beau several plays throughout the season that either took Drew out or had him outside playing fake receiver. Beau was a piece of the offense, scout, practice, game action. Beau and Drew came in the same class; he had to go get his shot with Drew coming back

    A limit to two transfers total in a career excluding Junior college. NIL has to have a salary cap. Transfers should be done post playoff.

    If they are getting paid then they are professional.
    Lets treat them as such.
    schools form a corporate structure.
    Include a graduation/relegation system.
    Paid contracts.
    Salary caps and controls.
    The corporation has control of and speads the wealth of Television contracts.
    This eliminates all of these problems.

    As a child you don't know any better and you're a fan of your daddy's team. Then you learn more and realize Hicksville PA isn't cutting it. Imagine going to South Beach for spring break and thinking what if Miami is interested,. Daddy's team just isn't that important any more, but good memories. It's no longer student athletes, It's athletes playing football.

      The issue isn't the kids getting paid and leaving; it's _when_ the transfer portal is open. For many teams the season isn't over but they're losing players. If they left after the final game of the season I don't think many people would have a problem with it.

      @CliffWarren NIL money is technically not through the schools directly at this point. Once revenue sharing and the schools directly paying the players comes in, that changes. At that time, you will probably see these kids under some type of contract. It's not the kids fault, this is the system they are playing under. They have to look out for themselves.

    Yes, the portal's timing is jacked up. At the same time, perhaps "the dream" part is overstated. In previous times, he'd stay at Penn State and step in after Allar. But we're in a 'right now' mindset and it's going to kill player development at some point.

    So, first question: Is it intent to transfer no matter when the deadline or the bowl game is? He is going to transfer? Then I am PEnn State, I want him gone. I would rather give the practice reps to the next QB in line who WILL be at Penn State. This is NOT an impossible choice. An impossible choice is one that can't be made. He CAN make the choice. I am not a fan of the timing of the portal either, but he IS making a choice and if that is to leave, then leave. But why keep him for practices and for the bowl if he isnt going to stay at PSU. Prepare the QB who will stay at PSU

    I wouldn't want a qb that left before the playoffs. Other positions ok. Some random bowl ok, but as a qb you are held to a higher leadership threshold.

    Portal should open after spring ball and close when scholastic semester ends. Players sign 2 yr contracts and allowed 1 transfer total. It was greed before and now its greed being served by more greed. This is not sustainable

      He'd have to be one heck of a big fan to possibly give up a couple million dollars of NIL money. Now he has two years of big NIL money coming; had he stayed at PSU he'd only have one year since Allar is coming back next year. BP made a smart business decision. Smart guy.
