She's gonna be either a solid contender for majors, or the WTA's equivalent of Grigor Dimitrov, someone that emulated the GOAT but never came close to winning a major.
I don’t think so. I mean, she’s not very fast, her footwork is very average, she has no choice than playing as she plays. Except the serve, her motion is not very fluid and controlled. The commentary said she could be very good on grass but I don’t think, too slow and in her reactions too, I don’t talk about the volley… clay court either no. Hard court is the best for her. But I like her game (the attitude no) 🤠
The whole tennis worlds is watching Alycia Parks and wondering if she can be a new star! Good match for both ladies. Good point composition, on Alycia's part. Love seeing her game improve. So calm, so steady in the tight moments. She needs more power on her back hand side. Hope she can continue to climb.
40 unforced errors she looked so chaotic and hard to watch! She has looking way to go and going nowhere at autralian open with all the consistent female player beating her😅
@@deepconvos1it's her first Australian open ever and she's in the 3rd round. Just beat a very in-form seeded player. She hit 30 winners and was still able to win in straight sets despite 39 errors. Love what I’ve been seeing from Alycia Parks. Fundamentals are solid, array of shots, serve etc. High level of consistency is needed and believe in herself to rise further. She’s not far off from that “IT” factor.
Alycia's game is solid. Her shots all look difficult to return. I can't imagine how much practice goes into each of her shots. Beautiful. Love Leylah too.
The photo of the player who won gets placed in the preview. It ruins the surprise for those who did not watch the match yet. Put BOTH players on the preview photo of the video.
I can't wait to see more from Parks. I love her ground strokes. I think she needs to play doubles as well to get net game skills. But very impressive against the firecracker that Fernandez is. Kudos!
Coco crushes her bad… like bad… her ground strokes need big improvements and coco will definitely make her play extra balls to hit those ground strokes
To AO: It's great to have longer highlights, but please don't put the winner's picture out. Either putting both players' or the higher ranked player's picture would be much better.
Alycia Parks serve is huge! During this match against Leylah her first serves were frequently over 190km/h and at few times least over 200km/h, her second serves were mostly over 175km/h! I have never seem something like this before. If she is able to improve her movement and add some consistency on her shots she is potential top five.
The outfit and the general look gave a Serena type vibe. She played great and she has all the tools to be a big player (minus her defending abilities) but she lacks consistency. She’ll do good at this tournament and lose to an unknown player in the first round of the next 3 tournaments. She lacks consistency.
The last time I watched Alycia play, I thought, ' aside from the serve, what the heck was she doing? ' Now, this match shows me, she really worked on her game. congrats to her.
I think except her movement around the court, everything is so dangerous. With Williams sisters if you compare, because she also has a big game like them, she is just not that good on the defense. But they were.
Well... if she takes out Coco it dramatically reduces an American of winning the 1st slam unless Alyicia uses the win as her break out moment and thus becomes the dark horse of the tournament. Stranger things has happened. Look at the Green Bay Packer who just barely made it into the NFL playoffs and they just knocked off on a paper by all accounts should have won. @@phDST1913
As a Canadian, it's very disappointing to see Leylah go out, especially when she had a 5-2 lead! And then proceeded to lose the next 5 games. She needs to go back to the drawing board both on court and off court because imploding within a game or within a set that you are winning is absolutely killing her game and her ranking. As someone said in the comments below, it's not enough to be a scrappy player..as a lefty she should be developing tools her toolkit to really lean into. As a Black woman, it's very lovely to see Alycia Parks continuing to improve! She's got an impressive game ...love that she comes forward, she serves and volleys, she already has a strong serve with placement...she just needs consistency and to make better strategic decisions on court.
Once again, Leylah Fernandez proves incapable of leveling up her game. She is predictable, her serve is weak, and spunkiness can only carry you so far. When she was shiny and new at the '21 US Open, she surprised all comers and her competitive nature took her far. She is a scrapper for sure, but here we see what happens when a physically superior young stallion is on her game and blows her off the court. Leylah is a compelling personality but her future is uncertain. As for Alycia, there is nothing so fun as watching a rawly talented tennis player continue to harness her natural gifts. She needs more discipline in her approach to strategy, but meanwhile that serve will keep her in many a match and the forehand is not far behind. Alycia is a character too. I like her!! Go, Alycia!!!
This is my first time seeing Alycia Parks and I like what I see! It will be interesting to see the match up with Coco. I personally enjoy Parks's style way better than Coco's defensive tennis. But Coco may have an advantage, simply because she has more experience...and is familiar with Parks's style. I definitely want to see more from Parks. Finally, a player who doesn't just get the ball back and wait for an unforced error.
Very impressed with Parks, strong match. Leylah has a tough road ahead. I recall that Justine Henin was small and slight, but she was so fierce. She put every ounce of body weight behind her shots and she could go toe-to-toe with all the big hitters. I'm thinking Leylah is going to need some of that as well as more gym-built muscle to reach the next level in women's tennis. Power tennis drove great players like Martina Hingis out of the sport, so this type of development may end up being crucial for Leylah.
Omg wrong! Hingis had a winning record vs Venus and tied with Davenport and 6/7 record vs serena. She was burnt out plain and simple plus 2 ankle surgeries.
I take your point. Burnout and injuries have real impact. Overall record against power players notwithstanding, Hingis' Grand Slam titles did drop off a cliff once power tennis began its ascendancy-and her retirement came at a pretty young age. So, could be multiple truths here. Would you agree, though, that Leylah seems to get overpowered by heavy hitters, and needs a strategy to overcome her disadvantage? @@maximilian2974

Alycia Parks don't be upset when we are hard on you, it because we know you got dangerous game. I see your comfort zone is the baseline, please step out of it, and well done.

well, not "very easily," but it would be a competitive match. If Coco is having a bad serve/bad forehand day then maybe.....

Coco doesn't do dropshots and she plays her whole game off the baseline. Parks moves in the court and she takes the balls out of the air.
