- Oh boy, South Park: Snow Day looks like it might be a bit of a dud everyone. I mean when IGN, the king of all kings gives your game a single point more than The Walking Dead: Destinies you know this must be some bottom of the barrel garbage. But for half the price of most new releases I figured as a fan of South Park I still had to at least see what the game is like. It can’t be that bad, right?

This game seems like a result of all the deals Matt and Trey have made where it seems like the IP is just stretched too thin.
Having to make 2 lots of specials for 2 different streaming services and trying to make a game at the same time resulted in a pretty average product.
Apparently, Matt wanted to make a hack & slash and was getting burned out after making 2 amazing rpgs. Now we have to wait till the next one unfortunately.
Gotta squeeze as much $$$ out of it as possible.

After 2 masterclass RPGs from SP Studios, it's such a shame we got a "well, it's fun with friends, kinda..." type of game. As a mostly single-player type gamer, I hope they go back to RPGs after this.
A buddy of mine tries to always justify a bad game cuz it's fun with friends. To me a game is complete with great co op, a game should ALWAYS be great solo then more fun with friends. Unless it is a co op game from rip or a heavy influenced co op game like Destiny or Division but games that are only really playable because of friends is a sorry excuse for bad games

With each passing game release its starting to feel more and more like narratives, either positive or negative, are being built around games and games are not getting judged just based on what they actually are. The outrage from this game changing art styles and gameplay made me know from day 1 that it needed to be a homerun of a video game or it was gonna get dogpiled. Couple that with some people refusing to label games as just okay instead GOTY or outright awful and it personally leaves me in a place where unless im being shown that a game is outright broken and doesn't work i kinda just wanna try everything myself lol. This game still doesnt look like my cup of tea but appreciate you not acting like it was the worse thing you've seen since unsliced bread and giving ur honest thoughts.

I feel the same but I'm not blowing 70$ just to see for myself. those days are over. if it turns out to be a crap game you've also ended up contributing to its sales helping it thrive when maybe some games should fail to send a message to studio executives about quality.
The game is too short, and too repetitive, its not good, i dont call it mid, because its not fun.
That's the current state of gaming and the internet it seems mate. If it's not the best then it's the worst and at some point we gotta start having fun with our games again. I'm not here to pretend this is gods gift to gaming but it's a fun game that I enjoyed playing for a couple of days and now I move on

It's just such a shame they didn't keep the style of fractures but whole. And stick of truth. It was more than perfect. And the reason people liked them is it felt like an episode of the show. Thus doesn't look awful but it doesn't feel like south park . And no checkpoints really hurts . A 12 hour 100% could become 20 hours if you struggle at a pretty hard game
It looked good and stuff, it just needed more to do and it would have been nice if they made it to where you can explore south park and possibly have a multiplayer/pvp mode
The no checkpoints is brutal but I would argue this still feels like an episode of the show just more condensed

This game is clearly meant to be short and experimental, so I'm not at all displeased with how it turned out. I think the reason people are so upset at this game is because they think it means it will be much longer before we get a turn-based RPG game, or that this game will somehow harm the potential of South Park games going forward, which I doubt. Anyways, good video.

Thank you for understanding its not a bad game, so many are just mad its not like Stick and Fracture and reviewers who use those to compare it are judging it unfairly. Its 30$, different artsyle and gameplay, why would anyone logically assume its going to be on the same level when its half the price from the start? Its a fun roguelike in SouthPark, all roguelike campaigns are short. Im on my 5th or 6th run and still finding new areas and dialogue. And its pretty clear they will be adding more episodes. They already announced the new weapons.
The full 3D is a little jarring (I like the flat sprites better) but if it's fun and only $30 I might eventually pick it up
For me the biggest thing when going in was, South Park as an IP can go wherever it wants genre wise. I mean look at Star Wars and no one cares if it hops around but because the last two games were similar that's what all the games have to be which I don't agree with. This is from a smaller studio, in a different genre and I thought it was fun. Simple as that
I actually really liked the game, got the Platinum as well. (Played with a friend, i think that made some of the trophies much easier)
Still like Stick of Truth and Butwhole more though.

Jokes aside even as an enjoyer of both roguelikes and hack-and-slash games, I think this will be one I wait for a sale for. Hope to get around to Stick of Truth sometime this year, as I did enjoy that back in the day. This seemed like an ok journey, but one that includes a bit too much rng for my liking tbh. Congrats on getting the platinum. I haven't even played Stick of Truth yet, let alone anything after that, but hearing that Snow Day isn't so bad means I'll keep an eye out for a good sale instead of avoiding it entirely.

A 3d south park game with the same game style as the other 2 would be so cool. The thing that really hooked me on TSOT was the exploration and how filled the town was with references and side quests. The combat in this game is fine but I'm missing out on the character building and replayabilty.
Unironically the IGN preview with Matt Stone is what sold me on this game, I’ll wait for the inevitable sale.
Somewhere I read that they’re contractually obligated to make 3 games, so who knows, maybe the next 2 will be those deep experiences everyone is hoping for

An easier method for the middle management trophy is a glitch where if you cheese a necromancer as it’s reviving an enemy that counts it also counts if a cheesed necro revives a cheesed enemy

The Vanhelsing and a lot of the other combat trophies are a lot easier to get with the To Danse with Ravenous Shadows add on.

I played a bit of the beginning of the game and went straight to hard and had my ass handed to me, feels like it would be a way better experience in co-op though, gonna try to get some of my friends to play it with me some time

Got the platinum in a day. I honestly had fun, but wouldn't go back.
Honestly, I was hoping for an RPG with the anime ninjas theme. They could have made a commentary on how niche things becoming more mainstream can result in people trying to change it for the worst. Some great anime and manga series are overshadowed by the "popular" stuff. Also, the "popular" stuff can feel kinda samey after awhile.
just platinum it this morning, wasn't bad was something i got to mindlessly play. now it just sucks that the STD unlockable isnt spreading right now on ps5.
The healing aura is the most important power
They gave gollum a higher score, that's dumb.
The hatred and 3/10 make sense. The power/card system being random, so you can't build your character how you like is horrible. Especially in a multiplayer game where you wanna have set powers with your friends.
A game like this needed loot and cosmetics to unlock by playing with friends long term, it made a terrible mistake being short and random.
My boggest gripe with games like these is that they're better with friends, which is cool and all, but as someone who is pretty antisocial and has no friends, it makes me feel like i just get shafted and the experience isn't fun.
Still better than that n64 game. I remember renting that with my best friend for the weekend. Wow. That sound of 1,000 turkeys will be burned into my brain for the rest of my life.

I like hack n slashers, I like roguelikes, I like testing my mettle with difficult games, and I like South Park. I fairly enjoyed what I saw and will probably like this game. I do hope for the fourth game they go for a different genre again, maybe a metroidvania, since they didn’t want to go for a big RPG again to avoid stagnation, but also return to the 2D artstyle.
The ign review of the game seemed far fetched but it looks like the game seems enjoyable enough especially since it’s only like 30 bucks. Though rng isn’t great, having 3000 hours in Destiny I feel that 😅

So we told them we wanted the stick of Truth and the fractured but whole for the third game and then they didn't listen
I think the game is ok myself too, not perfect but its a fun quick play to kill some time.
For some reason I've been interesting in seeing a game based on pirates lol
i think the reason why people are saying its not like stick of truth or fractured but whole, isnt because of the graphics of it, but the lack of storyline. Fractured but whole was mocking the whole MCU universe going on at the current time, Each character had a unique look to them. Snow day re-uses stick of truth costumes and cuts any storyline mocking current media. This is what makes southpark southpark, its ability to take jabs at current media. That is completely gone here. Another reason why stick of truth was amazing for players, was the environment it had you playing in, it actually felt like you were exploring south park. In snow day, it felt like you saw more of south park in the background, than actually being able to interact with. When it comes to the play style / combat , there is not too much skill required, beating it on hard the first playthrough with some downs, and a single wipe needing a restart of the level, but other than that, there wasnt too much challenge beside the 100% accurate archers. The choice of weapons was too small. 3 melle and 3 ranged weapons. Comparing that to stick of truths whole weapon system that had you find new weapons when you leveld up made it seem like nothing was really added compared to previous titles, only taken from. Overall game could have been a lot better, could have been a lot worse. the bigger question you should be asking yourself, is would you have playd this if it wasnt southpark themed? probably not.
You end it off with a rhetorical question but I answered that in the beginning. As someone who loves roguelites and hack and slash games I think I'm definitely someone who's trying this game South Park or not. In fact, this not being a South Park game might've garnered it more fans 😂

The only actual problem is the roguelite elements not being strong enough to replay the levels. But it’s $30 and you can play with friends so who cares if you only play once.
To be honest my only complaint was that the main campaign felt too short
I played with my friend and we had plenty of fun (bar dying when the last boss was one literally one health)
But we both agreed a little bit more playtime could have benefitted it
I think once this game gets a few DLC's or extra stories as a package it'll be much better

It's a pretty fun game, although it feels unfinished, the weapons, armor and power ups are under utilized, and everywhere I look, I see alot of missed opportunities.
My hope is this is just a trial run and they'll expand this style of game play and merge it with the stick of truth and fractured but whole.

After listening to the interviews with Matt and Trey it makes sense why they went into this game differently from the other two. Mostly burnout but its been 7 years since the last game so i wish we could have had another RPG or SRPG instead. Guess I will boot up Stick of Truth cause Snow Day doesn't even look that great for $30. 😬

When I first saw the trailer what I was expecting is another RPG in a new art-style and the whole town in a more explorable fashion while having fun in the snow that after several in game days starts to get worse causing everyone to try and figure out what's causing it and gave it be some weird south park explanation that just gets progressively weirder as the game moves forward.
But the fact all this is caused by a piece of poo with hurt feelings that we have to apologize to is both on brand for South Park but feels a bit lazy as well. The last two games have more than enough replay value to them which I can't say the same from what I've seen here. Also I did see the season pass and it's 2 new weapons, a few cosmetic items and a new game mode which is the last thing we get set for October but by that point will anyone have enough care to pick the game up just to try out the new mode?

@@DeputyFish And yet those one you mentioned are fun unlike snow day. I know what a rougelike is so I don't need any of that sass coming from you. Not to mention all of those game you mentioned are much cheaper than Snow Day which sits at $30, Isaac is $5, reborn is $15 and while Hades and RoR are both $25 the amount of content they provide make up for their price point at the very least, especially Hades with it's story.
Snow Day doesn't have a great story to it like Hades does, it doesn't offer lots of choices for the player with 3 melee and 3 ranged unlike all of the others games mentioned, the maps are always going to be the same no matter what. Snow Day fails at being a rougelike where I can't even consider it one, all the others are at least either reasonably priced or have a good enough story or combat that makes it worth replaying the game over and over, Snow Day has neither of these.

NOTE: It's much easier on Normal if you're playing with human players. What you can do is "Host" a game, start playing, and during your mission new random players will join. By the time of any level's boss fight I always had human teammates. (I agree though that Kyle is the hardest boss, though that was before I realized I could Host a game and have randos join throughout, so who knows.)
The only thing I really didn't like is that the single player experience is pretty rough cause of the AI but I think it would be really fun with friends, also the AI could be fixed with a single patch or something
they still havent topped stick of truth, they should have done a stick of truth style game again but with a different story

I got the cheesed necro revival by using the wand card that lit me on fire. I cheesed the entire horde and killed myself. Took 30 seconds
i honestly think my only complaint is the length of the game. I wish it was in the same style as the other games, but the 3D was a nice change tho
When I saw the review I was disappointed that I preordered it. But then I played it on release for a half hour and enjoyed the absolute hell out of it. I haven't played it since because I want to wait to play with a group I play with. I'm so excited to play through this game.
I don’t know if it’s just the way the video is cut, but it seems like there’s a lack of interesting fan favorite locations. I always liked going into all the houses and town shops in the other games and it seems like that charm is lacking here 😢
What’s awesome about xbox, is to 100% the game you need the viral achievement, which currently isn’t on console, so every xbox player and most PlayStation players still have this 1 achievement stuck at impossible

The second I saw that this was going to be in a 3D, live-action environment, I could tell that they had removed a large enough chunk of what I loved so much about SoT and FbW that it wasn't going to be for me. That's okay. Not everything is going to be for everyone. Cut my losses, move on. What I didn't expect, however, was for it to lose all semblance of its identity as a series. I never even planned to play it and still ended up disappointed. Here's hoping that they go back to the basics of they plan to make more moving forward.

I think the rating for single player match the ratings given but playing with friends the rating should be 7 or 8 on a scale of 1 to 10 and a 3.5 or 4 on a scale of 1 to 5.
Princess Kenny had a really great sound and the roleplay of Cartman was so funny with that boss.
I think they shod have had the mechanics and upgrades more like Dragon Age, then this would have been a hit

I think it's worth a shot for the price mate honestly!
It just needs more bosses and more unlockable content to keep it fun. Hell just hang together the entire game as one big dungeon randomize the boss encounters and you have a halfway decent roguelike game. Add more bosses through updates. MAybe some branching paths. Structure wise there is enough brilliant games in the roguelike/lite genre to look at to get inspired.
As the game is now its just not a very good roguelike that i want to play over and over like binding of isaac for example.

I thought this was going to be an Adventure or a cowboy game
Ive beaten the game and i played it with a friend in one night (about 4-5 hours) on normal. Its slighty dissapointing but not awful. That being said if the game was full price at like $60 id agree with alot of hate of the reviews. I even got the digital deluxe version and still thought it was fun. Granted I was playing with a friend. It may not be as fun solo.
If you wait for a sale its a fun little game especially if you got some pals to play together with. The humor is obviously good.
I did play stick of truth but not fractured but whole. Its definetly weaker but i compare it to cost of movies. Even if i went to the movies for like around $15 a ticket, tax included. Thats still like 30 bucks to see 2 2hour movies. Sure it wasnt a masterpiece but i still laughed alot and had fun with my friend playing. Even if the gameplay is a bit simple
So, after playing this game myself. There's a few clear issues.
1. It's too expensive for how short it is, and not fun enough to replay.
2. It needs 1 friend or more to be fun to play.

If you have some money and time to waste, its a fun little experience for 1-3 days with a friend or more though.
It seems super short and most streamers crap it out in 2-3 hours
This game looked like an early hack n' slash game from the 90s/early 2000s so I knew it wasn't going to be good from the start and avoided it completely.
