    I have watched this several times and believe it is one of the most beautiful paintings I have ever seen. It speaks to me with the way you captured the light. I love marshes and paint them regularly. I also paint watercolor but usually with a squirrel mop. I might try my hakes....thank you for sharing!

    Love the atmosphere of this one, Steven. Watching you work is *magic*. I now see that I was throwing my pictures away way too early. When I saw the paints running down at first I would have thought, "Oh no! I've ruined it already!" Thank you for sharing your gift.

    This is a beaut. Masses of atmosphere ! As another follower said, we take a lot longer to paint, but you've always said to paint at our own pace. Laying down the colour must be quick though. Might try it.

    Painted along. Good fun and not too bad. I'm using Bockingford. Noticed your paper stays wetter longer than than mine. Maybe I should soak it more. Going to flip the page and do it again, see how I can vary and improve the colours. 👍👍 Thanks for your help.

    • @StevenCronin
      @StevenCronin  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes Barbara I do give the painting a good soaking before I start. It needs to stay wet for at least a couple of minutes to give you a chance to get the background colours in. Very best of luck and happy painting

    Thanks Steven. This looks a nice simple one to practice. Pressure on the downstroke, ooohhh. That explains why my little blobs are at the bottom and not the top. That's a priceless little gem of info. I love Allizarin crimson. Just wish it wasn't a fugitive color. It's my favorite cool red. I've been looking for a replacement that's not so fugitive. Paint with you? You're so fast I have to pause a lot! LoL. Twelve minutes for you means at least 30 for me.😱😰😵 Thanks again for posting for us. Take care.

      annette fournier I agree, it’s always fun, and hilarious when I try to keep up. But the fun is in the trying, right? Also, Winsor and Newton makes a permanent Alizarin Crimson now as well. It is a beautiful color. I love my M. Graham version but am with you about it being fugitive. Have a wonderful weekend!

    Hi Steven, just found you on yt and I am blown away from your paintings - thank you. I tried the marshland immediately and I am happy with the result. May I ask you, which paper you are using - I am from Germany - and it seams amazing to me how tough it is and how the colours come out. Hope to hear from you - best regards linda

    This "Marsland" watercolor painting is beautiful for its simplicity. There is something I don't understand well. The forgroound doesn't show much and why are grasses there? You don't see the land. I have the impression that the grasses are in some water. The white part of this painting is awesome. Thank you for sharing once more.

    • @StevenCronin
      @StevenCronin  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The grasses are just reeds poking out of the water that you sometimes see by the banks. Thanks for watching and very best of luck with your painting

    Great painting, Steven. Thanks so much. A couple of questions, if that's OK. Apart from the prewetting, when do you go to the water while you paint? I see a lot of water, but most of the time you seem to be in the palette and things look pretty dry. Is the paint consistency always a bit. Also, could you just tell me how you get to that dark dark and the muddy banks? Is it ultramarine and payne's grey? Thanks again!

    • @StevenCronin
      @StevenCronin  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The hake brush holds so much water I don't need any swishing around in the palette. I generally have just enough to hold the hairs together and no more apart from the pre wetting of the paper. The dark tones are generally made from ultramarine burnt umber and Paynes Grey using various mixes of each. Hope this helps. Happy painting and very best wishes

    • @DavidMiltonJones
      @DavidMiltonJones 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, Steven, mystery solved! What size hake would you suggest I start with.

    • @StevenCronin
      @StevenCronin  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've always used the large brush 45 mm wide I've always found this the best size for the 15 by 11 inch paper that I use. Very best of luck with your watercolours

    Hi Steven, I started painting after watching Frank Clarke about 12 years back.. then we moved in with the mother in law and I had no room to paint without getting disturbed.. I mentioned in one of my metal detecting vids that I used to paint, and a few asked if I would start again, I did try but failed because of the space and peace issue...lol I like the looseness of your paintings and was wondering if I could maybe use a few of your paintings when I start to paint for my channel, I will mention you and give you full credit, I used to watch you 7-8 years ago before I had any channel, so I have not just found you, if you dont want me to use any of your paintings, then I will understand....
    take care mate
    Tom

    • @StevenCronin
      @StevenCronin  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Tom yes that's no problem using the paintings for your own videos. I appreciate what you say about the lack of privacy . It's difficult finding somewhere private to paint on your own without getting disturbed. Please feel free to use whatever paintings from the videos you want to use your own demonstrations. Very best of luck with your artwork and your channel. Best wishes Steven

    • @kathleenholmberg5034
      @kathleenholmberg5034 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Joe Menza ,in the very first sentence or so, he mentions lemon yellow and cad yellow, side by side.

    • @joemenzaart
      @joemenzaart 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kathleen Holmberg yes I see now he has them both on his palette. It looked like lemon yellow on the paper and in the previous video he switched to lemon yellow so I wasn’t sure what was being used there.

    • @StevenCronin
      @StevenCronin  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes Joe I recently bought some more paint and for a change bought lemon yellow so for the time being they may be a little mixed together on my palette

    • @joemenzaart
      @joemenzaart 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Steven Cronin yes I went back and saw they were both on there. I was listening to an interview with a famous watercolor painted and he said he used two of each color and mixed them together so he would have his own unique palette. 2 blues, 2 yellows etc.

    • @StevenCronin
      @StevenCronin  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I never thought of doing that mixing the colours together but what a great idea for your own unique colour palette.

    I agree with everyone else: This is an extraordinary rendering of marshland, which is my favorite wild environment. Moreover, you do an excellent job of explaning your techniques as you're painting (not easy). But might I suggest that you upgrade the microphone you're using? Or at least put it in front of you when you're painting? Some of your explanation is all but inaudible, which is a true shame.

    • @StevenCronin
