I have been researching prices in Manzanillo and Puerto Vallerta, and have visited Puerto Vallerta several times on house hunting expeditions. I have not been to Manzanillo, but looking at real estate listings for houses and condos, it is quite a bit less expensive than Puerto Vallerta.
I am confused by Gerry's statement that Manzanillo is more expensive than Puerto Vallerta, especially since he is in the real estate business. On other items, I am depending on Numeo for prices for food, clothing, etc, which shows Manzanillo to be less expensive on all items as compared to Puerto Vallerta.

      Hi Kerry
This is Gerry in Manzanillo. I guess our proof reading was not thorough enough, BECAUSE YOU are CORRECT-- Manzanillo was always cheaper than PV in the last 17 or so years, it still is. We have just returned from PV a day ago and I can not believe the traffic and by far the upward scale of prices on all commodities, especially real estate.
My sincere apologies and I will ask Xpats Mexico to help me make the change in the promo. Hopefully I can be of service when you do decide to come to Manzanillo- feel free to contact me at anytime -- gerry@mexicanbay.com, would be honored to show u around.

One thing to consider is that your US Social Security and Pension will be taxed in Mexico as a resident. Also your Medicare part B will draw penalties if the premium is not payed . If you don't expect to ever return to US no problem but returning will be costly.

Great place...heard a lot about this town...what does one do for earthquake protection..?

Same as California...put together an earthquake preparedness kit, know how to turn off the gas and develop a plan. You never know when they are coming.
