Recently did this to my front yard mulch bed. Looks super clean and professional. Trying to get a perfect circle around my trees was difficult, but I found use of a string with one end loosely tied to the half moon tool and the other side to the tree have me a consistent circle.
Another way to use the hose to lay out your area is to set it how you want it to look and then leave the hose there for a couple days. When you remove the hose, the grass underneath will give you a natural yellowed line from where the hose kept the sun from getting to the grass and you won't have the hose in you way when you start your edging.
Awesome idea. Now if I can get our squirrel families to buy into NOT moving the hose, it just might work. LOL!!! Really. Great suggestion :-) Thank you.
Had no idea until now. I've always wonder how other people have their edges looks so nice and sharp. This is going to be my go to. I love that the video is brief and to the point with tones of useful tips, thank you 👍

You passed the test in knowledge & efficient communication. Getting my half moon implement tomorrow and I'm going to work. THANK YOU! +Remember Mr George Floyd+
Great clip on doing the edge. If your handie at welding I modified my half moon shovel by adding a piece of flat metal on one side of the shovel so all I do is push the blade along the edge and the added piece of metal floats on top of the grass as the blade cuts or scraps the edge. The metal I added is at a 90 degree of the blade and I bolted it on so the shovel can be used normally.
Thank u! We have that half moon tool, but obviously didn’t know how to use it properly and go back around another time like you showed in the video. I have a whole yard to do with brand new mulch beds everywhere so this will help it look really sharp. Thanks again.
Thanks for sharing. A great way to determine the line is to have the grass long then use the lawn mower to outline the curves. This way the lawn cutting will be smooth and easy too. Before cutting the rest of the lawn use the edge cutter to dig in as you illustrated. Using flour also is a great way to determine the line.
Thank you señor lawn whisperer… everything looks legit 👀😳😜😜if I see someone working in sandals 🩴 I simply don’t trust them… great werk… I will continue following your channel for more amazing tips and videos …Gracias!!!!
Best video demonstration on how to do this that I've seen so far!! Been trying to get my edge to look like that, but can never get it straight & crisp. Wil be purchasing a half moon edge tool today! Thx!👍
Wow What a super video - you really made your beds/grass look wonderful and with that edging and you made look a little that a newbie could do and was happy that you show the tools and how to use them.i agree that a natural is awesome.
Looks really nice and clean, I’m going to use your method tomorrow!!! My neighbors and I are always trying to outdo one another when it comes to yard work!! Just friendly encouraging competition!!!😀
Mine do not. I had someone who is NOT a yard person at all (they pay to have theirs mowed) stop by yesterday and was like, "Wow! You can see a clear line where your property line is at. Your side is so green!"
Lawn looks awesome -- thanks! Your straight-forward easy-going manner is clear to understand, and quick tips (without a full background explanation) make it easy to stick with the video. I was only going to watch a few minutes to get the gist, but the added humor and unplanned cameos by the neighbor and your daughter keeping it real kept me watching. Neighbors always have a comment, and the kids and pets always end up under foot. Just had to subscribe.

Fabulous, informative video with concise commentary and excellent visual examples!! Well done, good man!! Your humor was unexpected, outrageous and delightful!! I almost lost it with the “don’t flop your hose out in public” comment then ended up LOL with the classic “that’s what she said” (I’m a chic, but I NEVER tire of those). Thank you for your great video... you have explained it so well that is exactly how my sister did my edge. I have never used 2 tools to edge Great method.. it does make for heavy bags when you edge but that is ok.. I had to use at least 2 for mine. YOUR neighbor is Halarious.. and very friendly.. You are lucky to have a good neighbor.
“Hide-ho! neighbor Wilson!” Neighbors...gotta love them. 🤦🏻♀️ Great video. I bought an edger but have been using it incorrectly. Thank you for this tutorial! Great job, beautiful lawn!
Came across this video again after a couple years because I’m trying to decide on new landscape edging. You just can’t beat the look of that live edge.
Funny, I did this 20 years ago when I created my mulch beds in my then new house ... hose, half-moon edger, seemed like a good way to do it. Do have to be careful though, you could inadvertently nick the hose.
Your lawn is so lush and green. I live in NC and have clay soil and rocks. We're also over 65. We have drought often and lots of weeds. If you have more than an acre, this is hard to keep up unless you have a sprinkler system and you are young (like yourself).
I used this on one small area in my yard and it looks great! Before i saw this i just took my edger and went around with with no design or shape to it and didnt look so good. wroked well thanks!

I left round holes for hosta plants and a couple bushes. Weeds don't creep in, mowing is easy, not much to do with weed trimmer. Weeds and stony, clay, hard pack soil is what we have upstate NY. So we need to find easy ways to keep lawns pretty with less toil.
Looks nice but you are much younger, and got a hell of more energy that I have! Give me a Stihl gas power edger, and get my old ass in the house A/C as soon as heavenly possible!!
That was really cool man. I've seen those blade cutters in Lowe's, Home Depot, etc, never knew what they did. I've got about 20 feet of a uneven lawn edge I'm going to try this on. I was going to install a mower strip to keep it clean, but I think this would be much better (and much cheaper) alternative. Everyone has a mower strip, but not many have a clean line like you demonstrated. Good stuff, thanks sir!!!
If you don't like to use spray paint because it is hard to fix, here is what an old friend taught me. Great video! You presented the info in a great manner. I felt stupid for looking up "how to use a manual edger". I'm happy to see I wasn't the only one who needed advice. I'm heading outside right now to put this plan into motion. Whish me luck.
I have never seen a half moon edger before so I googled and hooray we have them in Australia! I was using a shovel yesterday trying to work this out, so I was stoked to find your video today! Keep up the great work and thanks for the LOL's
Your edges look great! What do you recommend for clean edging when you have nice size maple trees that have large roots at surface level, which makes this type of edging very challenging?
