- Join Captbradford as he visits the 2022 Tokyo Auto Salon, the biggest and most important aftermarket, tuning and motorsport exhibition in Japan and all things JDM. After a one year hiatus due to Covid, the popular auto salon returns to Makuhari Messe With careful restrictions on visitor numbers. It is unfortunate that foreign visitors cannot visit Japan for this show. Therefore we take you around the best and most important locations for the sports car category from manufacturers and big aftermarket brands.
In this four part series, the first takes a look at Toyota’s Gazoo Racing booth. Taking centre stage is the return of the highest new special grade GRMN for the GR Yaris. As an ongoing development of their compact Raleigh Road car, extensive modifications done to the body shell and aerodynamics is exciting for the future of sport confidence. We also check out Toyotas winning streak of race vehicles. Group 4 GR Yaris Japan rally. Dakar Land Cruiser 200. Yaris WRC. LeMans Race car. GT500 TOM’s GR Supra. Also on show us some road cars like a full option GR86, Lexus NX PHEV, Toyota bZ4x GR concept and Corolla Sport hydrogen Super Taikyu 24 hours race car prototype driven by “Morizo” Akio Toyoda.
The announcement of the GR GT3 race car concept is also shown, With its long bonnet and low-slung GT style that hints of true supercar potential.

Good episode, The Japanese big 3 have once again found their stride and swagger. I’m sad the ICE is on it’s way out but at least it’s going out with a bang. It’s going to be super hard for me to choose between the SI and GR Corolla I’m hoping Toyota knocks the Corolla out of the park.

Toyota's president is really leaning back into the racing history of the company. When you look back at the 80s and early 90s you were basically getting race motors and amazing chassis and then that really trailed off (for the world market at least) along with Honda doing the same. I feel like both are coming back but Toyota is fully committing. Really impressing me even though I'm a Honda guy.
Honda is doing pretty good too. They're engine suppliers to last year's F1 and Indycar champion. As a Toyota fan, that's something i wish Toyota returns to in the near future.

The stopped selling the Yaris in the states unfortunately. Still have the 86 and Supra but I feel like they need a GR trim for the Corolla as an entry level sport trim.

I Love my made in japan mazdaspeed 3 and my family wonder why I dumped 12 grand into a car I purchased for 4 grand. And I didn't get a new engine or turbo even? Nope. It's burning oil it need a new engine...nope I'm rebuilding the original one. It's my car forever and I will always do whatever the car wants or needs from me and would not consider giving up and moving on I had a brand new 2013 from the dealer it was quite a day buying a car made in japan brand new...i had to sell it and my hearts went with it i.e. couldn't make the payment...so when I had a chance to get my baby back for 4k I jumped. Mazda pioneers many technology standard in the industry today, yet today are seemingly among few still that will actually innovate and spend money on technologies they have to work from the ground up on...no work to piggy back or springboard from they do what few other manufactures will and they continue to have there best stuff used and improved by the and as the gold standard. Mazda deserves more attention from you guys.

As much as I enjoy the TAS video, I wish it was firmed on higher quality camera. I do understand the lighting of the show was poor.
