I was just about to say it’s got a lot of similarities to my bounce, the weight is very close, the style of laying on both sides as well. Bell is also similarly shaped and the pin groove continues there. Just without cluster hammering obv
Really easy to hear that there is something special about the balance going on with that one. Great to have you break down what it is that you hear in front of you. It helps to learn a bit more about the "why" things sound so good to us. Beautiful! ❤
Yes. A beautiful, well-balanced cymbal there with so much character! Sounds exceptional to my ears too (even through a mac - which doesn't do it justice I'm sure).
I just got my custom 12inch hihats off Craig. When they arrived I was surprised not just by how well he understood the sounds I was imagining but also how much better they are than I was imagining.
I own a growing cluster or family of Craig's original handmade pieces: a 19", two different 22", and two different 24" ... his pieces are musical, blending nicely (zero irritating unwanted notes/tones sticking-out in the overall tonal mix) Craig has obviously listened-to a lot of MUSIC and studied his instrument... and playing his Cymbals, it is clear the person who made them -- is a MUSICIAN ! So his cymbals sound fabulous + feel "fun" to play!
I actually made an offer on this exact cymbal that obviously didn’t work out. So, I ended up buying the 22” Landmark weighing 2726g from you. This Lauritsen cymbal seems to have quite a bit of wash/sustain for a heavier cymbal. I’m enjoying the cymbal I just bought from you, by the way.
I really enjoyed the sound of that cymbal without rivets. With 6 rivets, though, imo , too much. The rivets drowned out the character of the cymbal, imo. IMO! I think with 1 or 2 rivets it would have been much better...but 6 was too much... Without rivets...lovely!
I think you're talking about the original K Custom Dry Complex Ride. I have one in Medium Thin, and it's loud! Does the large, high bell have something to do with it? I love the cymbal in some ways, but I find it so difficult to find a good context for. It makes sense in the Scofield trio. I also don't have Bill's touch! This cymbal sounds incredible!
Yep that's it! It's how those were machine pressed into a tall shaper before machine hammering that makes them so loud, as well as the bell. Fully hand-hammered umbrella shapes are darker and more controlled.
This cymbal sounds incredible, however... I've given up on my quest for "the" cymbal because I want more versatility than a single instrument can provide. This one reminds me a lot of my Sabian Vault Artisn 22" Light Ride, which I eventually sold because it lacked stick definition, and the bell sound was poor. Wonderful for jazz, terrible for virtually everything else. I'm now rocking a 22" K Medium ride which is jack of all trades, master of none... can't win! :D
Yeah, the title is definitely a little clickbaity. I personally don't believe in the concept of the holy grail cymbal. However, I DEFINITELY believe in searching for it! haha
@@ReverieDrumCo My personal "Holy Grail" is my 20" Paiste Signature Dark Energy Mk2. Haven't tried other Dark Energy rides, there's also 21" and 22", and the Mk1 series, but the one I have is freaking perfect for anything.
The face of joy of you discovering how much of a good cymbal you got is priceless
Sounds like a ride that Elvin or Art Blakey would love to use, it has a sweet complex crash as well as good stick definition. Nice!!
I do love that 22....Nice stick sound, nice wash....Yep for me.
The progression of smile in the first seconds of contact said everything.
you know. you always know... right away... and that same smile drags its ass across everyone of our faces.
Agreed!
That umbrella cymbal is certainly the dry complex ride. And man this thing is killer, it's what the bounce ride wanted to be when it grew up

Agree, I think Tim is talking about the Bill Stewart Zildjian dry complex ride.
ver II has a lower profile and sounds warmer - like a flat ride meeting a China
@@5Antvin yeah think the second version is decent, a lot more one dimensional than the first

beautiful cymbal! not surprised coming from Craig’s shop! beautiful work as always

awesome!
I’ve got a 22” K Con Bounce that lives in that really aggressive realm, just opens up super fast and gets so loud. Feels like a runaway train to play.
I know those sounds well!

TRUTH!
Thats so funny how my reactions were in sync with yours when the tone started roaring.
We have a guy here in Connecticut....Justin Ottaviano...He makes some great cymbals..
amazing. that is a keeper.
Love it!!!
“Yeah man!” Says it all..😎

Phenomenal

Or 3 rivets....still too much. Maybe I would use a different cymbal with rivets. The rivets just arent working for me here..... IMO!
Try PUG cymbals. That guy js a genius
James makes great stuff!
He’s correct about weight, Tony’s ride on Nefertiti was 2,600-2,700g.
Very interesting cymbal! Seems like it's going to wash out but it doesn't. Sweet crash! Nice overall tonal range. Great purchase!
This is in fact the holy grail!
Have a look at PUG cymbals!

@@ReverieDrumCo That's interesting. What I found is that although its too loud for many jazz bands, it disappears in a rock band.
Cool cymbal and nice commeradery. Is it the one that was on reverb lately? ; )
Yep!
The umbrella is the dry complex ride, I think.
yep!

Im still trying to get my hands on a dry complex thin just to see if I can play it
It's a wild one!
I think you talk about the 22 k custom ride .
Dry Complex, yep!
A like for your feel & joy because I like your feel & joy.
Midway through the video I also wonder if the unnamed cymbal is dry complex I or II
Yes to both... haha
that umbrella cymbal wouldn’t happen to be the Dark Complex ride zildjian did with Bill Stewart would it?
Yep!
It sounds like a lighter cymbal than it is.
Def a complex sound
