- MLB Europe & BBC Sport presenter, Felix White heads to Wrigley Field, Chicago ahead of the ‘MLB World Tour London Series presented by Capital One’ to get a first-hand experience of the epic Route 66 Rivalry between the Chicago Cubs and the St. Louis Cardinals.
He catches up with Cubs legends, super fans and even tries to teach Patrick Wisdom and Hayden Wesneski the art of cricket 🏏. Could we see a baseball player make the switch to cricket in the future 🤔? And what is it that makes this rivalry so special?

As a baseball fan who admittedly doesn’t know much about Cricket but is eager to learn more, batting in Cricket is a totally different animal than batting in baseball
It’s so defensive in comparison with baseball batting- At times they remind me more of a goalie in hockey deflecting shots than a baseball batter

Yes.. That Defense is Considered a Skill coz even if Edge of the Bat touches the Ball before landing in Fielder's hand, Our Batsman is Out, for that day.. If defence went wrong, it may pave way for the Ball to hit the Wicket again for our Poor Batsman..

There is a different raison d'etre in cricket because you have more time on your side as a batsman. A home run is a significant event for a baseball batter; it could win the game. In the normal course of cricket it would have little significance on its own. You have to stay in to make meaningful scores in cricket and that includes defending the bowler's best balls so you can exploit other deliveries.
It depends on the match situation. The freedom is with the player to play how he wants.
The second the cubs won in 16 I drove straight to my grandma's house and cried and gave her a huge hug. She passed two years later. So grateful she got to see it happen

Passionate fans of baseball (and I mean those who really enjoy the sport inside and out) know fully well, no two games are ever the same. This rivalry always delivers, even if both teams might be below .500 before 1 August (which doesn't happen too often these days.) Just wait until you see the fans outside West Ham and the way the fans get into the game early and often. That experience alone is worth the price of admission, long before the 2 1/2 or 3 plus hours whizz by and the game ends up being very close up to the last out.

Came to watch the cricket portion basically but it's way too short 😂
The side I'd be really interested to see is how baseball players deal with the concentration of batting in cricket. Like you could potentially be batting for 3+ hours and facing 300+ balls in an innings of test cricket, whereas an AB in baseball might last at most 20 pitches (that being the record I think). The ball comes with less velocity in cricket as it isn't thrown and bounces off of the pitch but the amount of decisions a batter has too make is much much higher.

The batter in cricket has much more control over what happens and options about what they can do. They can leave or play the ball , defend or attack the ball, play with the bat horizonal or vertical, run or not run and play the ball any direction. The batter in baseball is much more limited in their ability to control the game as they have fewer options available to them.
Baseball does everything you mentioned besides batting vertical and choosing to run or not
@@philmccracken179 Baseball batters cannot play the ball in any direction. I like baseball and see why people love it. Hitting a round ball with a round bat is probably the hardest skill in sport, maybe too hard to be a fair contest between bat and ball

IMO MLB should have started a cricket league using franchises of MLB teams to tap into the fanbase. ie Cubs Cricket (or Cubs Cricket Club), Cardinals Cricket, Yankees Cricket etc. Bit late now maybe with Major League Cricket underway, but maybe some ownership groups can still get in on it by franchising team names and logo etc. Personally I'd be hyped for Boston Redsox Cricket Club to join MLC.

Only problem with Giants/Dodgers in London is that both teams are from the Pacific Time Zone. The travel times involved, and the resulting jet lag, would be insane for teams 8 hours out of their normal time, causing them to likely take serious losses in their first series back in North America afterwards.

@@niranjanj6930 I'm not specifically talking about pitching. In baseball, the whole team needs to know how to throw the ball. The whole point of wearing gloves is not only for fielding but more for catching the ball from each other to get the batter out (watch baseball double plays/triple plays) Being good at throwing is essential for all positions in baseball. And no I'm not American

Yes there are lots if you look into football (soccer).
In S America Boca Juniors and River Plate, Rangers and Celtic, Real Madrid and Barcelona.
These have all gone on for 50 years plus and have gotten people killed as well as causing riots.
Taking Celtic and Rangers in Glasgow as an example Celtic were the Catholic club and Rangers Protestant. You would not go to one team’s ground wearing anything associated with the other team unless you wanted to be sworn at, spat at, punched or stabbed.

England Argentina less so as apart from the war in 82 England and Argentina have not been enemies over the years. Yes for some Argentines the Falklands (las Malvinas) are a big issue but for the English less so.
