    Excellent review, detailed and honest. The camera quality went back to grainy. I know you've been trying settings on your phone, you should go back to whatever the previous video was as it looked way better.

    Nice one, and I like the idea of the different colors options.

    I’m happy Hidizs understands color options are a good idea. Getting tired of all my audio equipment being black and grey lol.

    Connecting the usb-c cable on the way you told it in your video, didn't work at all.
    In my case the end of the cable with the Hidizs logo should be connected to the dac - dongle and the end with the OTG text should be connected to the device.
    I've tried it with 2 smartphones: a Nothing Phone 2 and a One Plus 10 Pro.
    Both are Android smartphones.
    By connecting the usb-c cable on your way, the Hidizs logo on the dac - dongle didn't switch on.
    In many TH-cam videos the reviewers gave the same information like you did.
    It's no problem for me, because the Hidizs S9 Pro Plus works fine and I am very pleased with the sound quality of this dac - dongle.

      Maybe it varies versus the phone used? Or maybe a different cable is being provided? Glad it works for you.

    I own the non-plus model and am looking into getting the Cayin RU6 or RU7 (R2R DAC-AMP dongle) 12-18 months from now which is supposed to sound more "analog, warm & natural" than any "digital delta-sigma" audio dongle.
    Think I should consider the plus? Or continue saving up for a top-end audio enthusiast dongle experience?

      How about a cirrus logic device, like the Truthear Shio or the Tanchjim Space? Measure very well and have a good amp performance for the money

    • @TheHonestAudiophile
      @TheHonestAudiophile  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @steviesteve750 Haven't heard the Ship. The Space has wider, deeper stage, slightly less detailed and resolving.

    • @steviesteve750
      @steviesteve750 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TheHonestAudiophile the shio and space are going to sound very similar, given they use the same op amp architecture. It's when a device has a separate op amp that's not integrated into the dac device is when we start to see deviations from the alleged chip house sound. It's all about the device packaging.

    Hi Dave,
    Is it worthwhile to get a 4.4 mm balanced cable for easy to drive hybrid iems like blessing 3 and oriveti iems?? Are single ended cables(connection) noticeably inferior to balanced ones??

    • @TheHonestAudiophile
      @TheHonestAudiophile  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Cables can make a difference. Balanced cables can add more power, depth and dynamics to sound. But not all gear needs to be run balanced. A proper single ended cable with a powerful amplifier can have similar results. Basically cable swapping is an experiment and it depends on the pairings. I don't run most IEM on balanced unless they're harder to drive like planar. But a balanced cable can be useful for those moments of need.

    Hopefully they are using better quality 3.5mm hardware now. The 3.5mm port on my S9 PRO failed after about 8 months of use and about 2 dozen connect/disconnect cycles. I later heard from others that I was not the only user to have this occur. I had purchased thru Amazon but had to go back to the reseller HiFiGo for warranty. They would not cover shipping back to Asia and shipping both ways was more than a new device so it was not replaced. I keep it around for any future headphones I may buy such as the Harmonicdyne Zeus Elite that does not offer a 3.5mm cable.

    Dave, thank you for your reviews. I have a Sony MDR V6 I usually use with my old Macbook. What dongle would you recommend at this price point or lower for use with my phone? I'm not a super high volume listener nor would I consider myself an audiophile, just someone who appreciates decent sound.

    • @TheHonestAudiophile
      @TheHonestAudiophile  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hmmm I've not used the Sony MDR V6 with a dongle. You'll need something with decent power, probably will need to be run balanced. The S9 Pro Plus is a solid performer if you can use it balanced.

      You can use a USB A - type c adapter with a dongle, some include the adapter. Something like this will work:

    THX Onyx is still unsurpassed for me among dongle DAPs and I've tried almost all of them (Qudelix 5k, Hidisz S9 Pro, Khadas Tea, iFi Hip Dac2 & GoBlu, Questyle M15, Fiio BTR7, Cayin RU-6 and RU-7). The RU-6 and RU-7 have nice DACs, but for me they had serious noise issues that were too annoying to deal with. Landed back on the Onyx. It has great sound and power, like a 789 in your pocket.
