AVGN #25: “Sega CD” - Reaction

Ahh, another AVGN console review. This time, however, this is a consul that I know a bit more about than the Atari 5200. Certainly an interesting piece of Sega’s history? Did it necessarily help the Genesis (and by extension Sega as a whole) by any means? Probably not. But what about the 32X? Well, that’s for the next reaction, so we’ll just have to wait and see.

I actually really like the Sega CD. If you look past the FMV games, there is a good amount of quality titles on the Sega CD. Some of the games on Sega CD are the definitive versions of games released on multiple platforms at the time.

12:14 actually, that was a Metallic Bone, being buried under ground. it makes sense for them to make that, because the main protagonist in this game is a dog. and dogs love bones. they love to chew on them. or eat them

It was quite expensive back in the day. First you needed the genesis, which was $150.00 new back then. Then the Sega CD cost about $200.00. Then you needed a game which was $20.00 minimal. So about $370.00 in 1993-1994 add dollars. If you add the 32x, that cost about $150.00 and you needed another $20.00 for a game. So $440.00 for all 3 minimal. On the other hand, the original PlayStation was just around the corner, due out in less then 2 years after Sega CD launched. It was gonna sell for about $200.00. Add a cheap game and a memory card and your still well under $300.00. That's a big reason Sega Cd \32x failed, people choose to wait on the PlayStation. Ps1 was more advanced and people knew it.
