  • A very quick introduction/tutorial on MPLS. Demo on setting it up (with Cisco IOS) is about mid way through the video.

Thank god this video actually gives a thorough explanation on the matter. Every other source I've seen pretty much says "MPLS attaches a 2.5 layer header that eliminates the need to look up routing tables." I like seeing a somewhat real world example rather than just textbook definitions and speaking in general terms.

You are an excellent presenter. You knew your material well, there were very few "um"s, and you spoke quickly enough to communicate a lot of information in a short time.

Basic idea about MPLS and basic configuration well explained in 18 minutes. Cheers!

At 14:29 when you configured the circuit via xconnect, you provided an IP of the neighbor (R4), which interface was that on R4? Was 10.0.0.4 fa0/0 or fa0/1 on R4? Thanks for the video btw, it's helpful.

Also, are you using subinterfaces? I followed this tutorial, but afterwards, the 'customer' routers were still unable to ping each other. I am using OSPF for within the 'service provider', and when I used the xconnect commands, if we're looking at your setup, I did xconnect _ip address of R4 fa0/0_ on R1 and xconnect _ip address of R1 fa0/0_ on R4. I do not have any IP's assigned to R1 fa0/1 or R4 fa0/1. Pinging is working within the 'service provider' but end to end customer pinging is not working.

Between R1 and R4 he used the two loopback interfaces configured on these routers. Trying to figuring out how to make it working between the two customer routers as the ping is not working with the config shown on the video

Very nice video... was there any configuration on the MPLS circle routers like any IP configs and/or routing protocols etc?

Maybe a silly question but I cant understand the meaning of layer2 services, as per my understanding the data travel as packets in between routers so how can we work on layer two services while working WAN network? Really appreciate if anyone could explain this thanks

what would be the config on router 6? OSPF as well?

    • @hyphenex

Hi Diego, R6 & 7 are customer routers. They have no knowledge of our MPLS design here, the video was a proof of concept of providing a "layer 2 circuit" across our cloud to connect R6 to 7. They're not running a routing protocol but simple are talking to one another via the "connected" /30 between them.
