I am a beginner at automotive repair. I wanted to let you know how helpful your instruction is and to send my thanks and appreciation for this excellent video. You helped walk me through the whole job to replace my front wheel bearings on my 2002 f150. I learned a lot and gained some more experience on how to work on my own vehicle. I did save a ton of money. Your instruction was excellent!
I did not have a couple of the tools needed to complete this job. For example, I did not have a torque wrench that went over 200 ft. lbs. In addition, I did not have a 35mil socket to remove the axle nut. I found out that Oreilly's Auto has a specialty tool program where they loan you a tool. You pay for the tools when you borrow them, but you receive it all back when you are finished with them. You don't even pay a fee for the use of the tools! Anyway, that saved me from purchasing some tools that I won't use very often.

I decided after watching your video to try doing my left front hub today. It had not gotten lose like yours, it was just very noisy. Watching this video made this job relatively easy to do and I had all the necessary stuff at hand to do it. The spline slid right out, but getting the old hub off the frame was the hard part. I used one of my 6 pound rock hammers to coax the old hub off which revealed lots of rust inside once the old one was off. It cleaned right up with brake clean and a rag, and the axle seal appeared to be just fine. I bought the same exact hub that you used as its a very good quality part. My right side hub is still ok, but I am going to probably get another Moog hub and change it out next week anyways, so both fronts will be new together. My Expedition has 256K on it. Still going strong. I didn't use a 3/8" Milwaukee, I used air tools (impact and ratchets)instead, since that's what I have here.

As always, another great video! One point: I believe the lug nut torque variance (100 vs. 150 lb ft) is determined by the stud size (12mm vs. 14mm), not payload capacity. Ford made the stud size change at the end of 1999. 2000-up should be 14mm, but some early-build 00's could still be 12. Thanks for another top-notch tutorial!

This is one of the best videos I have ever seen on TH-cam. Good job. I would like to pass on a tip of my own. Put a couple lug nuts on loosely while installing the the brake caliper. Helps hold it in place. And prevents it from falling on your foot.

A trick for vehicles that have a tendency for their rotors to rust on like 97-03 F-150s and Expeditions when you install a rotor pit a thin coating of anti seize on the back side of the rotor

I've watched three videos of this procedure and each time, it is a different set-up. I have a 99 F150 Lariat 4x4(and it still has rear drum brakes!) and I am just starting to disassemble the front hubs. I think the 99's were a transition year and mine has the older set-up. My 98 Mustang GT has some parts that are 94-early 98 and others that are late 98-02. Haynes manuals will just throw the year at you but, they don't seem to know, either. I will figure it out eventually but, it makes it very difficult to order parts ahead of time. It's a long process doing anything with these transitional Fords of this era but, it is a pleasure driving them when the work is done! Totally dig FORDs!

i wish i had this video 2 weeks ago! I have a 2000 F150 4x4 4.6L with 310,000Km on it. It was a hard job anyways, it took myself and a buddy 7 hours to remove the bearing. A good 6 and a half hours of that was hitting it with a 4lbs sledge because it was so rusted on. It was so rusted that the bearing actually pulled out of the whole unit. I'm not great with part names, but essentially the triangle backing plate was so rusted on that the inner part of the bearing pulled out of the junction where it meets the cv joint. Lots of hammering and fire and eventually it came off. Many beers were enjoyed as soon as the new bearing was installed!
    Thanks again

FordTechMakuloco, I chuckled a bit when you mentioned about staying clear of the hub assembly when you are tapping it off with a hammer. I made that exact mistake myself changing a wheel hub assembly on an '89 Chevrolet K2500. The bearings were so shot that the hub fell right into my lap. One word: "Ouch!". LOL!!!

Great video. I do quite a bit of mechanic work, and I have done these before, so I basically use video's like this as a reference, since different years and models can have different set ups. I would really like commend you for giving torque specs for the bolts, this is missed by a lot of video's, and nice clear explanation on what, how, and why to do each step, this gives a novice a great chance to do the job right. I will be looking for more of your video's. Thank You.

Just wanted to stop by and say thank you for the very informative video. I swapped out the driver and passenger side hub assembly on my '03 F150 over the weekend and the truck drives so much better now it's ridiculous. After removal the driver's side was found to be very gritty so there's no doubt the bearings were shot. The truck has over 193K on it so I guess it was time. On another note... the inside lip of the knuckle is very sharp (found out the hard way). Thanks again!

Great video and easy to follow. I would like to add, to brake loose the axle nut, if you don't have an impact gun, use the screwdriver in the rotor trick to loosen the axle nut before removing the caliper. This worked for me.

I recently pretty much replaced all joints, balls, rods, and axles on my 07 F1-50 Harley Davidson edition on 8” lift after rough off road turkey season. I gave her hell in the holes. Until a few months ago I had little to no clue about the front end, well pretty much anything regarding mechanical know how. But what I did see is I am missing my ABS lines and vacuum lines on both driver and passenger sides. I been off road since. Being an AWD, am I riding locked in 4x4 at all times? And how bad is it that I have been riding daily like this? I can’t even find where my vacuum lines should be and the ABS lines have been, from what I can tell, literally ripped out. And by the way your videos can make a drunk monkey a mechanic. The best and most in-depth I’ve seen. Thanks a lot for your time and help.

This is great and the video quality is really good with spec numbers on bolts, etc! Know it has been five years but was going to tell you, I use a drill a lot also since it is much easier then air tools in low torque situations. That being said, you can cut down the cleaning time you talked about A TON by getting a wire bristled drill bit! It can do a much better job in about 10% of the time! Use the ones I have all the time I bought at Harbor Freight years ago. Anyway, thought that might help as a tip for all your jobs! Overall great video!

Really great video. One thing not mentioned is what is called the wheel seal. It's a seal behind the bearing/hub assembly and it keeps water and dust from getting to the bearing through the CV shaft area. Mine was torn a little and I am having a hard time finding a replacement. Locally, I went to the Ford dealer, Advanced Auto and Napa, they didn't have it. Online I get "out of stock" on multiple websites.

I’m getting a grinding noise after wheel bearing and brake pad/rotor replacement. Starting to think it’s something to do with the 4x4. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!!! Your videos help me out so much!!!!

The way I have diagnosed which side the bearing is bad on is by paying attention
to the characteristics going down the highway. I have noticed that as I am driving
when I enter a curve going to the right the weight of the truck transfers a great
deal of the load to the left side, and the hum from that right wheel is almost
UN-noticable. Then as I come out of the curve the hum returns. That may not work in
every case but in my case I am 99.9% certain before turning a wrench which side I
am dealing with. Could be a useful tip.

What do you thing about Duralast rotors and Brakes, they claim. "Duralast Gold® brake rotors utilize a high carbon formulation to minimize noise and enhance performance. The carbon used in rotors dampens noise and dissipates heat. Though I have never has any problem with noisy brakes. So is just another fancy rotor. What are you thoughts.

Hey man, just wanted to say great channel, and has helped me out a lot. This comment has nothing to do with this video, but o was wondering if you had any videos to do with a P0174 code on a v6 2008 Ford Escape. Anything would help. Changing MAF sensor, to changing out the O2 sensors. Anything would be great! Keep up the good work!

Love the videos. Do you have a video on how to change out the lower control arm on these same year vehicles? Curious about how the torsion bar is removed and reinstalled to do this job. Thanks in advance for any info.
