Thanks for the video! My new-to-me 99 Silverado didn't come with the critical piece. Tried and tried to get extensions down the tube OR to get the tube to nicely come off. Then I tried your method and now have the tire lowered. FWIW, I found a 12 pt socket that fit over the extension. Using a ratchet made it nice to lower down.
GreaseMonkeyRepairs, thanks for this video and demonstration on how to access the mechanism other than using the tube that you broke free. I have the problem and now I believe I can get the job done. I'm going to order the tube that I intend to break and a new crank down mechanism so I can restore the system to service. All the shade tree mechanics razzing you for using tools and being jerks. I don't see them making videos to help people with jammed hoist lifts. Good job GMR.
That tube you busted off ,it turns without any tools .turn by hand ,it will lower .sometimes you can't get any extensions down there.wont fit.did this today😮
So you have to be a mechanic to get your spare emergency tire on the side of the road! I love my ford, bt just knowing I can’t just grab my spare when I’m ready is a problem!
3/8 extension with a 13 mm deep well is another way to lower the spare. And a 3/8 will fit in the key hole.. unfortunately for me my 3/8 are missing so had to find another way and came across your video, thank bro!!!
Saved me $300. Thanks man!

Thank you for sharing. I've been needing to get mine down for a little bit and really need it today lol
All the people commenting that these are tools, what he meant was the tools that come with the truck to lower down the spare.
This is the worst design ever for a damn spare
Bc its White

Last I checked a 1/2" extension and pliers are tools
they aren’t the proper tools for the job
Why didn't you use square socket?
My thoughts exactly
did you lose the tool to lower spare the usual way?
Yes lol
If you already have the long 1/2 in. extension, why even bother breaking the plastic tube?
He clearly said the extension doesn’t fit inside the tube

how so?
Great video
a "series of extensions" doesn't count as tools?
then use a crescent wrench....
Thank you
