Capoeira is a complete martial art
There are headbuts, elbows, palm strikes, takedowns, knees and kicks
And it has freestyle wrestling moves
And it goes with jiu jitsu too
The front scissor takedown leads to the banana split
But tournaments don’t allow it to be a martial art of combat
Rather it turns into a game or a play
Thats one of the reasons why most martial arts don’t respect it and mock it
    And say it doesn’t work
I love capoeira it changed my life
But there are some things that hold it back as a martial art
    Do you agree?
    EDIT:
    I actually think differently now.
I actually don’t agree with myself on this post.
I have improved on my capoeira.
And the intentions are hidden behind the smile.
It looks like a game yes but the intentions are different for each person that steps in the roda.
We have rules but we break them without a second thought.
We smile and play but suddenly attack and change the speed.
We use trickery we cheat we fight.
So yeah i learned a lot.

Capoeira realy needs promotion, where hard kikcking and punching is allowed. Where knockout is legal. And there are ways to train safely for this, with shin protectors and helmets. In my oppinion it corresponds with the idea of regional style. But appearantly no one is interested(((

@@AndriiKhrystynchenko because people have died from it thats one of the reasons why its not trained that way.
But its highly unlikely to die from a kick.
But then again wearing protective gear might help with that.

Sometimes I want to test myself outside of the Roda. Like, I have no idea how I would defend myself from a punch because we never even train a punch defence. I guess I would use the Ginga to pivot and turn or something.
Sometimes I wish we would train wearing gloves and pads but then that wouldn’t be capoeira anymore, so this is the dilemma lol….
I’m not sure about learning a second martial art now because of the injury risks, I think Capoeira is quite low risk for injury’s in my experience anyway

      I did in mma.
And landed a copaso feint martelo de chao.
I trained with my coach who was an mma fighter and a capoeirista.
That means you should train your endurance, speed, explosivity and stamina.
Know basics of striking, wrestling and grappling.
Your ginga should be modified to fit mma and that depends on you.
You should learn moves outside the roda, like boca de calca, or cabecada to the nose and asfixia.
Also the front tesoura leads to the banana split remember that.
Always protect your face with your arms while in the ginga and switch up the pattern always.
And most importantly your blood oxygen levels, hemoglobin and iron should be high.
A capoeirista that doesn’t get tired easily is a dangerous one.
      Hope this helped.

@@marcaaron1890 they will under estimate you
      Capoeira likes being under estimated.
      And don’t reveal your secrets.
When they ask what is capieira just tell them its a martial art hidden in a play or a game.
      Just tell them the basics.
I know im being hypocritical but don’t reveal our secret.
Practice capoeira moves only in capoeira schools.
Don’t let them understand it, that will be your advantage.

Capoeira has some of the most powerful moves, but the thing is you are sacrificing your safety to defend to deliver a very impressive shot.
Capoeira kicks deliver a greater striking force than Prime Mike Tyson on his best day.

      -- This!
Grappling-wrestling-Thai Kick boxing are the meat and potatoes of MMA. Salt? Pepper? Capoeira fits that spice. It's the extra added bonus in fighting. High risk, high reward. It's the last 5-10% of training some MMA fighters can use.

Tradition Muay Thai Boran kick had Crocodile Tail Spinning kick.
But they never use it often & consider to be slower than Capoeira too.
Modern Muaythai fighter now a day dont use it that much too.
So Capoeira consider to be faster than muaythai and it should work.

If practiced in a practical way, most martial arts can work. Will you be able Ginga go into a handstand head kick like Eddy Gordo... probably not. Can you have a dynamic fighting stance, with fakes, set up kicks, punches, and elbows? Yes. A capoeira mestre fighting MMA is probably not going to fight like he would during the Jogo, with another capoeira practitioner, practicing. Ginga is to disguise the art because it was illegal to practice. The ginga should not be considered its base fighting stance (in a real fight) in my opinion. Even so many fighters with dynamic stances do well. Dominic Cruz. Take away acrobatics and the ginga and its still a pretty standard good martial art. Plud you'll get into great shape. Stack it with BJJ. You're well rounded.

Capoeira is great against itself and anybody with no training. The reason it barely gets used in competitve sports is because of the massive energy output for little to no return. The majority of the techniques are negated by simple distance management. That's why if you do see Capoeira used at the top level, its one technique blended and used as a suprise. As a martial it's about as useful as drunken master.

It’s not all about the kicks though, the more practical stuff (like take downs) comes a lot later in the curriculum and it isn’t really the focus of the game as such

Do defend against straight headbutts is elbow to throat. When headbutts enter from below is a 12-6 elbow to the back of neck. Nowadays nobody does it in class (of course) but that’s the main strikes.

I truly believe that Capoeira is dismissed bc of its heritage. 🤷🏾‍♂️ same as all black art expression. Rock n roll jazz blues hip hop all considered trash and not real music until it’s popularity so as soon as whites say hey this is good then it’s respectable. Just as you notice how all these middle aged doughie white men start blues or jazz bands after the fact that it is no longer relevant and now it’s American thus ok to honor but when we first introduced it they hated it. Same with Capoeira which was illegal to practice in Brazil 🇧🇷 until the 30’s when Mestre Bimba legitimatized and made it “a national Brazilian” art instead of its past history and associated with bad black African primitive culture and now instead of that black African capoeira it’s now marketed as a Latino white Brazilian which is acceptable. However the original form was adulterated along with its acceptance.🙄🤦🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️ I’m a real Capoeirista Pernalonga

@@joshuacimaroon3692As a fellow capoeirista, i don’t think that’s the only reason but I agree that’s the main reason. This is especially obvious when you see internet commenters insult capoeira and then in the same breath praise asian martial arts. A lot of white diet-racists in Europe and America have this habit of praising asian cultures and people’s and all the same while subconsciously not even giving african and black cultures a chance (also true of indigenous cultures and middle eastern cultures)

@@joshuacimaroon3692Nobody except for black capoeristas think of capoeira as an African martial art. They think of it as Brazilian. And the general public is perfectly willing to accept other Brazilian sports like BJJ, yet capoeira is taken about as seriously as aikido. There just realistically isn't all that much you can do with it in a real fight. That's all it really comes down to. And fighting sports were already willing to accept Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson, and Floyd Mayweather as heroes so there's no reason to think race is what's driving people away from capoeira.
