I watched this movie for the first time, & actually enjoyed it. I grew up in the 80's & 90's, but never gave this a chance. I read that the SyFy channel was going to do the sequels back in 2018, hope the story continues.
This is the ending that makes sense to me. The other 1 he just leaves the breed in a barn. Like WTF ya know. Thats the new refuge for the nightbreed. Imagine the farmer that wakes to go feed his animals.....milk the cows to find the breed eating all his animals. Calls the cops....here we go again
I myself like this ending,but i wish ,it also had Reanimation of Decker also worked into it for what i believe to be a full ending,maybe right after Priest kills the Officer and awaking of Lori,prehaps as a end of credit scene

Once again, it made more sense in the OG novel. Ashberry was instrumental in halting the genocide of the Nightbreed. Here, he inexplicably becomes their greatest enemy after an accidental disfigurement? What the hell for? In the novel the accident left him crippled, blind, and mad, endlessly spouting cryptic knowledge of the Nightbreed into the void. The disgraced police chief took custody of him, just to decipher his ramblings in the hopes of tracking down the Nightbreed and finishing what he started.
The only thing that bugged me about the new ending of the director's cut is the VHS workprint audio they used. You can't hear what Eigerman is saying at 2:44...
Vasty Moses When it was it was announced in 2014 that the missing film elements had been found I thought they were gonna do a total reconstruction of Nightbreed. New sound, music, etc.. Sadly, they got zero financial support from Morgan Creek. Plus, they also had to rush out the director's cut because Scream Factory wanted to release it in October of 2014. Ugh, that fricking extended cut of ALIEN 3 was restored several times by FOX...

On the plus side, there was a few people we hired to do ADR on a few voices and tried our best to make the stuff make sense. Although I still have no idea what Eigerman is saying at 2:44
Andrew Furtado given the amount of time you guys had to put it together, I'd say The Director's Cut is a miracle on many levels. And I don't know what Eigerman is saying either - maybe 'we'll do it together?'
i still prefer the original ending where the priest puts his hand into decker and he comes alive. makes for a far more interesting enemy dynamic that gets your mind wandering about a possible future war between the breed and the sons of the free/anti-breed.
Magnificent film. Underrated masterpiece along with Return Of The Living Dead 3. Two movies from my youth that meant so much to be growing up. I’ll always love the children of Mideon.

After many many years I watched this movie again and remembered various scenes and others not so much (I was a child). I don't rememeber the original ending but the one from last night seemed different.
LaViajerita 87 the original ending had the priest putting some of that bowl of that boiling stuff into deckers dead corpse while he was tied up to that structure of Baphomet and then decker comes back to life screaming thru his mask if memory serves
This was a decent movie, just watched it not too long ago. But unfortunately the main human characters weren't strong enough for me to care !! Stupid plot choices, other than that the creatures were amazing !! The best part !!
This is a far superior ending and jibes with the Cabal book.Always hated the overdone slasher comes back to life bullshit ending that the studio stuck on.

This ending is too dull. The theatrical ending where a burned Ashbury resurrects Decker is so much better. The problem is there are some things I like in the Directors cut, and some i dont. Wish I could edit both versions for the ultimate versionl
What the heck? This ending is terrible! Why would the priest kill that guy? He was begging him to take him with him to help him kill monsters for goodness sake! Also... what happened to the ending where Decker came back to life??
@Walter Yeah the original ending had that "I will be back...in the next episode!" vibe that was just lazy and overused back in the 80s. This is way more intriguing.

I prefer the previous ending when the demented preacher brought back slasherman (Decker) to life and yelled out "HALLELUJAH" at the outcome.
