Tom, really enjoyed watching the process you go through when crafting something from leather! The holster came out great and makes a flashlight fit into your old school kit! You’re also becoming a really great spoon carver! Thanks for another really enjoyable video!
Thanks Chuck 👍🏻😁 I’m glad you like it and I appreciate your always kind and positive comments. Hope you and your family are well and that you’ll have a wonderful day 🌤🌲

Another very nice video Tom! I really like your chair and table setup at Cimbrer Camp. It looks so relaxing! Thanks for showing us how you made your holster for your new light. It’s so cool and old school. I also like the new spoon you made. Such a neat style. Have a great week my friend. ATB to you and yours.

Thanks Isaias for your kind and positive feedback 👍🏻😁 Yeah I love working on those materials and it relaxes me every time. Hope you’ll have a wonderful week ahead 🏕🦌
Great work. I have a deep admiration for your talent and skill. I made a spoon much like that one a couple of years ago. Adults who see it are always polite and seem to like it. But I get the same reaction from every child who sees it. They always, always, always say, "Why is there a hole in the handle?' In my case, the hole is there because the piece of wood I picked up had a knit and a bit of grunge wood right where the handle was supposed to go, so I carved the handle around it, and then cut out the knot. I enjoy picking up a piece of wood at random, and then arving something useful out of it, regardless of the condition it's in. But I can't really explain that to a child. I tried two or three times. It didn't go well. It's really a good question, and I need to come up with a good answer. Next time I think I'll carve a spoon with a hole in the bowl. Then when they ask why there's a hole in my spoon, I can just say, "Because I'm on a diet."
Ha ha ha 😂 yeah That’s the way to do it … love you humour 👍🏻😁 But of course I understand your point 😉 I work with children on a daily basis and know how they think … and it’s very down to earth talking … the why ? can put us in a very difficult situation … I think that’s healthy for us adults 💪🏻😊 Thanks for sharing this with us … hope you’ll have a wonderful weekend 🏕🦌🔥

Beautiful spoon Tom something I want to try have brought a few tools and just need to think of what wood I can practice on. Nice work with the flint, steel, and amadou. A novice might have missed that tiny ember the fire grew from. With a good steel, with amadou it's foolproof. I had to buy my amadou from Romania and ended up with a lifetime supply of nicely processed amid. Botanists refer to the presence of Fomes fomentarius in California as, "unlikely".
Ok 🤔 but I’m glad you could get it elsewhere 😁👍🏻 and don’t have to worry about finding it. Thanks for your feedback Dan 🤗 and for following me on my little adventures 🏕🔥🌲🐕Tom

Awesome spoon, Tom. Next time you have a white wood carving like that, drop it in a cup of very strong coffee for a few minutes. Let it dry and then oil it. You can keep putting it in coffee and drying it until you get the color you want. I did my last hammer handle in coffee stain and linseed oil, looks great on the nice white Ash wood.

Now then Tom! I have made things like this before (bags mainly) but with with thinner Leather and I used Waxed cotton Dental floss for the stitching, as it is readily available, cheap and strong as hell, however because of the waxing it will not take a dye. You have done a cracking job there mate. Just a tip in case you run out of proper twine. Regards From Bob in the UK
Excellent work Tom, for your next woodwork project, may I suggest research linseed ( flax seed) oil, it naturally dries with interesting characteristics. Used to be used on quality furniture prior to a wax finish, but mostly used on cricket bats for its hardening properties. I use it for seasoning cookware, tougher than Teflon! Kind regards Tim
Thanks Tim for your feedback and great advice 👍🏻😁 I also use flaxseed oil for my skillet but didn’t know it was great for wood as well 🤔👌🏻😉🏕 I’ll definitely try that next time Atb to you my friend 🏕🦌🌤

You are a great craftsman my friend. I watched your video "Tag" what is your favorite bushcraft knife again yesterday. It is the first video of yours I ever saw. Thank you my friend, tell Mrs. Tom hello and have a great day. Tennessee

Another great video, Tom. Hope all is going well for you. I have been using black walnut oil to season wood spoons and such. It gets a very hard coating after a few weeks and several coats. ATB, Cris.

Thanks Bob for your positive feedback and support 👍🏻😁 And thanks for your great advice … nice trick 👌🏻😉🏕
Atb to you my friend 🌤🦌🔥
Excellent work Tom, for your next woodwork project, may I suggest research linseed ( flax seed) oil, it naturally dries with interesting characteristics. Used to be used on quality furniture prior to a wax finish, but mostly used on cricket bats for its hardening properties. I use it for seasoning cookware, tougher than Teflon! Kind regards Tim
Thanks Tim for your feedback and great advice 👍🏻😁 I also use flaxseed oil for my skillet but didn’t know it was great for wood as well 🤔👌🏻😉🏕
I’ll definitely try that next time
Atb to you my friend 🏕🦌🌤
