Wow you get better and better the best reviews on TH-cam
Thank you very much!
I have many lenses, Sony, Leica, Olympus, Sigma, et al. They range from premium grade (G Master, Leica M) to the simple Sigma Contemporary lenses. I actually prefer the Sigma Contemporary lens line for its simplicity and excellent image quality with a fast aperture. The Sigma lenses are very sharp wide open and f/1.4 is actually useable, all for a modest price. It's very simple to adjust my shooting to moving a dial to change aperture. I never owned a Sigma lens until recently and I am truly impressed with the quality and value.
You are clearly not alone.
Fair enough. That's the sweet spot for Sigma to occupy.
The best reviewer, by far...That's for sure! I was really waiting for the comparison between this new sigma and the new Fujifilm because I want to replace my old Fujifilm XF23mm F1.4R.
Based on your review, I think I'll give the Sigma a try (even if the lack of an aperture ring is a real shame).
Thank you Dustin!
You're welcome.
Bro, your reviews are thee best. I have the sigma 30mm 1.4 and its pretty impressive.
Glad you like them!
I've got this lens on pre-order, and I am looking forward to it arriving.
I was a shooter that was must be a fuji lens must have an aperture ring... Then I tested the sigma 56mm F/1.4 for X Mount and was so impressed, I Instantly pre-ordered the 23mm once I saw the sony e-mount reviews.
The lack of aperture ring is a none issue for me now.
I am skipping the viltrox 27mm, not because I think in anyway it is a bad lens, just I do not like the 27mm FOV, after owning the Fuji 27mm Pancake and never using it, I preferred the 35mm F/1.4 FOV
That's fair. Enjoy your new lens!
Excellent review Dustin. One question about the sigma vs the older viltrox 23mm 1.4. Which one do you prefer for photo and video?
I would lean towards the Sigma as it the higher performing lens optically.
I had pretty much made my mind up on this after the first round of reviews a few months ago... Now that the Viltrox 27mm is in the picture, I'm having to rethink it!
That lens is a serious disruptor.
Indeed! I didn't really rate Viltrox previously, but the 75mm and now 27mm are gamechangers in the truest sense of the word. @@DustinAbbottTWI
@@jambob169 The Viltrox is the easy choice if you don't mind the weight, and having aperture ring is a really nice bonus too. For traveling or long days of walking around I'd choose the Sigma.
Great Video! Will there be a comparison video on this lens and Veltrox 27 1.2? I would love to see this video!
I do have a video like that planned.
@@DustinAbbottTWI that is awsome, looking forward to that!
Up to your usual, excellent standard. Real shame Canon don't and won't open RF system, I'm staying with Canon and my faithful 6D, it does everything I need.
I completely agree, Robert.
Dustin... thank you for your incredible resource with these videos. Question: You have an XT5 and you want the 23mm focal length for vistas/landscapes. Which do you pick: Viltrox, Sigma or newer Fujifilm version? Thanks.
If just shooting landscapes is your priority, probably the Sigma offers the best balance of size, price, and sharpness. I don't like the bokeh as well as the Viltrox, but the Viltrox is much larger and heavier and might be overkill for your purposes.
How would you rate the autofocus for stills comparing wit the viltrox 27mm f1.2, i am leaning more towards the viltrox
Both performed very well most of the time, but the Sigma had a few more misses for me than the Viltrox.
Viltrox 27 mm 1.2 or Sigma 23 mm 1.4 for video? Both have problem with focus breathing in video autofocus
I personally lean towards the Viltrox. I don't mind the size, and I find the rendering more special.
Not sure if your mic was on when your sitting at the table but there is a echo when your speaking
I'm currently looking for a rug for my office. It's all hard surfaces, so it's not great acoustically.
In this review You keep referring to the sony version, but for some reason can’t find your review of this lens on sony. Thanks

@@DustinAbbottTWI thank you so much
I have to say Viltrox has come a long way, the new 27mm they released along with the 13mm & 75mm all seem to be great for the price range, and these Sigma lenses are being left behind in terms of features and AF performance.
The Sigma gives you literally 23 1.4 LM WR optical quality for half the price, so it's to be expected to have some compromises in other areas. I just wish they'd at least put an aperture ring on it, I'd gladly pay +50$ extra for that. I paid a bit more for a used 23 1.4 LM WR in perfect condition instead, to get the aperture ring and faster focus.
The newest Viltrox lenses are serious disrupters to the market.
Are the, excellent, to my mind Sigma lens/es being left behind, or is more a case of Viltrox simply releasing new, high quality and value for money glass, in a variety of focal lengths?
