Awesome stuff Colin! Just a tip, you may have better luck with your lapel audio quality with the gain down a bit. Experiment with position on the collar too, like more to the side or directly in front of your mouth. Test clips beforehand is always a good idea, i just noticed your lapel audio was having more issues compared to your VO. Great coverage tho! Love the Sailfin Dragon! The diversity of species is great.

Thanks for you feedback. Variety is what we are trying to achieve with our videos. Over the years we have learned a lot about doing videos and specifically expo video. Our biggest problem has been sound, and I assume you can clearly tell the difference between comments made while filming and voiceover done "in the studio" The amount of ambient sound at an expo (or potentially at a zoo or other public venue) is massive. The ambient sound in our first videos using just the mics on the camera was way too obtrusive. When we switched to a directional mic it improved, but we still couldn't filter out the ambient sound to my satisfaction. So we switched to the lavalier mic which does a good job and can also pick up another person if they are close and still keep the ambient noise down. There is still a problem with this set up though. Currently if there is a lot of ambient noise it still comes through as Colin starts to speak and then fades as he goes on. Making spontaneous comments difficult to hear. I am not sure if it the mic or the camera processing the information, but the only solution is to speak enough to suppress the noise, then pause then start speaking again. We experimented with spontaneous comments which I think are more genuine, but the sound quality of "in studio" voiceover is better. - Colin's Dad

@@ColinsCrazyCreatures I get what you mean totally. A directional lav mic or something could help with strong rejection, but unfortunately audio stuff (especially recording) can be what you pay for - ie, pricey. Especially combined with a directional mount or something. I'm sure you guys will get it worked out, and it isn't like it's totally unlistenable or anything, I just figured I'd mention maybe messing with distance and gain to help it be a bit clearer and less distortion! It's always great to see the vids and Colin is great! Awesome that you are helping him with things!
