    So, there's no such thing as a "basic" variation for Lindy Hop or Swing Dance, but this one is a common root to a lot of my other variations. It also works on some wonderful basic swing out technique such as not rushing into closed as well as continuing your momentum evenly. Enjoy!

    Y'all, this is GOLD... This is so magical and expressive to the music. I wonder how well this could be transferred into a lead's dance.

      I'm sure it could. Sounds like something fun to practice ;) Let me know what you discover!

      He's (nearly) showing it here. Compare this to Brooks' "standard" swingout in "5 Things - follow edition", where he is taking big rock step on 1 and the hand connection is pulled toward him on 1. Here it stays neutral, which creates time for Laura to do her ideal basic--but Brooks has more time too! To use that time to dance (and also avoid unnecessarily interrupting your follow), for example, do an in-place kick-ball-change for two counts starting on 1. Or use 4 counts to dance, like with a scissor kick starting on 7. Like Laura explains here, you both can get around in the remaining time without rushing. I learned this from teacher Heidi Salerno months before shutdown and hope to remember to implement this when can dance again! She told me competition dancers use their time this way, and thinks all leads should as their basic.

    I'm looking for a Lindy Hop 8 count follow swing out foot placement decal or guide for my floor do you have any ideas?

    • @LauraGlaess
      @LauraGlaess  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, that sounds fun. I think this is a really great idea for a decoration, but I don't think foot placement is helpful as an informative guide to actual dancing.
      As far as decal sources, I'm so sorry I have no idea. But post a picture if you get it! It sounds so beautiful

    Great music in this video. You should get the band leader to make a guest appearance in the videos! 🙃

      Groovie movie is one of the strangest shorts I've seen. I don't know if I consider it to be historically accurate, but I should look more into it.

      @@LauraGlaess i appreciate your reply, i did my research back dancing took a 90deg turn back in 1916/17 with Vernon and Irene Castle who were out of left field. then tracked it forward and looked for every thing pre internet, where in my opinion is 90 is rubbish.
      then up through Paul Whiteman Orchestra in the early 20s who were playing music that the public could not really dance to, early swing between dixey land and post bix Beiderbecke, then came along the black influence, and then the white arranging era 1935+ then you have the classic groovie movie i spoke of, having met jean voloz she was in the movie, good person to get input from, and had spent several hours talking to frankie manning, and gill brady, he was in dont knock the rock if you have not seen him, fastest footwork in the early 50s, i actually asked him what is the difference between swing and rock and roll, he thought for a moment and said about 12 pieces in the band. and frankie said we used to just dance, no back step or 6 step or all the other guff that people tend to go on about.
      He also told me of the night in 46/47 one of those years they all went down to some club to see Dizzy" Gillespie and they were playing some new form of jazz that they could not dance to they just stood on the floor and they realised that swing was dead.
      we also went to the 94th birthday of spud murphy (arranger for benny goodman) at the brown darby in la. and he told us how sing sing sing came about and how it was arranged and the night it went from just 4mins to 8:32 mins, privilidged moment. also the charlston is just a 300 year old irish slip jip, albeit a very basic step in swing compared the the slip jig.
      but these days we type it into wickipedia and what it says we believe, but go the other direction you come up with total different answer, and end of the day a totally different dance style. which as frankie said is what we did at the savoy. the one thing i wish i had of done was to have a video camera. and hellspoppin 11 different camera angles that took a couple of days to film, and i have friends that think they can recreate it in one go. they could not even do it. any way have a great weekend and i hope i did not bore you with my rant.
      truth is were you find it i was always told
