- Thanks to "Lupton2000" for supplying me the PBS air date - November 21, 1987. I used to record Lawrence Welk every week during the late 70's and 80's. I converted my VHS tapes to DVD's about twenty years ago.
Interesting look on Arthur Duncan's face when singing song "let's pray for peace" he appears so humble seemingly humiliated for what was happening in America!!
Thank you for pointing that out. I never noticed that.
What a special tribute! Thanks for uploading!
I am so glad that I saved these old recordings!
This was me and my grandmothers show. I use to love to watch and see what the ladies were going to wear.
It was such a wonderful show!
Notice that Lawrence picked an African American to sing saprano!! The very ones under prejudice order!!!
We need this TODAY in America. Celebrate Jesus and not the fake gods
I agree! Amen!
Omg yes we do ❤❤❤
You SAID it.
I read an article about how this episode all those came close to not being made. The ABC Network wanted guest Willa Dorsey to sing secular songs instead of the gospel and patriotic song she wanted to sing. Lawrence Welk told he network executives.that either Willa would sing her songs or she wouldn’t do the show. Long story short, the maestro himself won that argument and Willa sang her songs, and one of the best Lawrence Welk shows ever was made.
What a fascinating story! I am so glad you shared it. Rob
Welk mentioned we can live to build America or live to tear it down!!!
We need 1970 in 2024 back then patriotism was very strong in America!!!
None of our traditions or appreciation for American democracy should have a date on them We will always need this unique system of freedom and the traditional skeleton to keep the morale!!!
I like how the African American special guest on Law Welk humbles herself at the end of her singing!! What a wonderful lady who lived and shared herself!!
Thanks so much for this 😊
I am so glad that I kept all of these old recordings that I taped!
Thanks for the upload
Many thanks. I still have your list -- I got the Election show ready for tomorrow.
@@RobertGundlachMusic awesome thanks so much
Thank you.
FYI On the date that this show aired November 21, 1970, half a world away in Vietnam members of the US Army Special Forces were trying to liberate American POW's during the Son Tay Raid.
Thank you for sharing this. We owe a debt of gratitude. I was born in '57, registered for the draft, but then the war ended. My father was in WWII, but there are generations of us who have no idea what those sacrificed for us.
This first aired on PBS on November 21, 1987.
Many thanks. I updated the program description.
Patriot
It is ironic that Guy and Ralna are singing “This Land is Your Land” but Guy is playing a nice looking Yamaha guitar made in Japan. Kind of humorous isn’t it?
Oh wow! I never thought of that.
Lawrence Welk mentioned that there is a dangerous few who want to be leeches!!!
