Huh, I don’t know why I’ve never thought of this. Genius. We’ve been using labeled eraser heads this whole time.

It's genius in its obviousness and startling in how it's not an immediate first thought for everyone.

Maddie's mentioned using Lego as substitute minis a few times, but I wasn't expecting it to look that good! I could imagine a lot of groups might be averse or dismissive of the idea, but also that it's a "try it once and realise it's actually great" kind of thing. It'd be fun to see DB have a go at a practical demo.
On another note, I've felt a lot of Dicebreaker's videos have been overly dark in the new studio set-up so it's nice to see this one being a bit better lit. Hopefully it's an indication the team are getting to grips with what's needed to light the space effectively.

Not only are minifigs (and lego "terrain") great for use in various miniatures games and TTRPGs, but there is a specific community ruleset for a Lego miniatures game. Look up "Brikwars" if you're curious!
Also a warning about the Lego Series minifigs - they're moving from plastic bags to cardboard boxes for sustainability reasons. So no more feeling bags out to get the fig you want.

If you live in the US of A there is a Lego resale shop called 'Bricks and Minifigs'. They have a build your own minifig area with a variety of parts to choose from.

In the Netherlands there's stores like that too, they often have exclusive sets you can't normally find.

My son and I play several different miniatures rulesets with minifigures. Most are skirmish games like Frostgrave, but I even have three quite large armies that we play Warhammer-style regimental wargames, with 3-4 minifigures each on 6x12 plates, advancing and wheeling around as blocks of troops.

You can also customize your Lego further if you are crafty. You can paint new bodys and glue them on with wash off glue if you want specific armor. It is nice to craft skirts, capes,.dresses etc. from fabric to add to your figure. I used to do that a lot when I was a Child.

  • @sjd83

May I add that even if you don't use LEGO bits for your TTRPG, the kits themselves are great for hobbyists after a quick hobby fix. No glue or paint needed. Just a finished and amazing looking model.

Playmobil is also a great option and there's a thriving secondhand market for the sets. My family has vast amounts in storage, including castles, dragons, so many trees and a waterfall, all waiting for my one year old grandson...or it could be proxies in Age of Sigmar games with my 17 yr old :-D

I used to work at lego Westfield and Brighton stores. We did get VERY good at feeling the minifig blind bags. And the build a minifig (BAM) Tower was a tedious thing to sort every day. Worth it to work in such a fun store though!

Been doing it for years - including full playable Lego Board/Diorama for Talisman based on 2nd edition. Heaps of Lego figs customised as characters, strangers, followers, enemies.

      @toymachine2328 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Everytime they say Avatar, my mind assumes Peter Jackson before I remember they're usually talking about the anime. Lego's more mainstream (like me) so for once my initial assumption is correct.

Soooooo I’ve been working on a 3D printing project where I made bodies that just so happen to have a stud compatible with Lego heads. They’re intended to be smaller scale that’s a whole Lego mini (I wanted it for travel). But yea full mini figs is a great idea for PCs and BBEG

    • @doejersey

I managed to make a surprisingly good simulacra of Kruber from Vermintide 2 when I last visited my nephews who have inherited my 90's lego collection.
But he prospect of Lego and Games Workshop one day realising they could combine their IPs is absolutely terrifying.
The wallets of nerds everywhere would be left strewn and exsanguinated across the high streets and malls of the world.

There are nearly infinite combinations you can use with Lego minifigs. Most of the 40K players I've talked with have not really been on board, because they think minifigs are to cartoonish. Lego IS a great way to introduce new gamers, though.

I would agree that Lego does make for a good substitute although not everyone owns lego, so the title of the video isn't entirely accurate.
