Förstlingen - The first Steam Locomotive in Sweden

Förstlingen the first steam built and used in Sweden. It was constructed by engineer Harald Asplund
and built by Munktells mechanical workshop in Eskilstuna and maiden voyage took rooms June 2 1853.
The "Project Förstlingen" has since 1982 been working to produce a reconstruction of the full scale of Förstlingen. She was completed and taken in operation 22 May 2004.
At the celebration of the Swedish railway's 150th anniversary June 5, 2006 in Nora the copy of Förstlingen
were run by H.M.K Carl XVI Gustaf.
Förstlingen är det första ånglok som byggdes och användes i Sverige. Det konstruerades av ingenjör Harald Asplund och byggdes av Munktells mekaniska verkstad i Eskilstuna och premiärturen ägde rum 2 juni 1853.

Crikey, that looks more like a loco from the 1820s rather than the 1850s.
Still, it is a handsome looking machine, and it's always great to see working replicas of past iconic locos.

What? Loco's from the 1820's used vertical boilers, walking beams, ect. This loco has all the characteristics of newer locos: Horizontal boiler, steam chest on top, horizontal pistons directly driving the wheels.

@@hwoods01 I was thinking of the styling of locomotives like Lancashire Witch and Rocket, but if you want to be so pedantic about it, maybe something from the 1830s instead.
Either way, if compared to a contemporary LNWR Bloomer or NER 1001 class over in Britain, Forstlingen probably looked rather quaint.

It is called a "drawbar". My museum uses drawbars when a car is not equipped with couplers.

@@marka5478 i was tempted to use the term coupler but it looked a little basic, drawbar sounds much more appropriate, by mismatched i was refering to the hight difference, but what can you do huh you cant really start customising a wonderful piece of history like this machine lol :).
