    Its easy to bag this performance, I guess you've all recorded with Michael Jackson, Quincy Jones, Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood and so on and so on.
    Respect one of the masters of groove, while listening to "Higher love" by Steve Winwood, or "Rock with you" by Michael Jackson.

  • @Joesfosterdogs
    @Joesfosterdogs 5 ปีที่แล้ว +37

    this is what so ironic...if you showed this to someone who did not know who JR is, they would think, "pretty good drummer, but let's be honest, there are hundred much better...and today on the NAMM floor, just as many in the building"...then you remind them creating grooves for songs is what drumming is really about, not blowing in front of students...some get this, many do not.

      There indeed a hundred drummers with bigger chips than JR, but none of those drummer come close to being the musician that JR is. The same goes Jim Keltner and Jeff Porcaro and the other Session Greats, as they had an understanding of Social Music that made people want to hire them.
      And I agree it all about the Groove and about serving the song, which is why Ringo and Charlie Watts are held in such esteem

    "Not a great soloist" lol, according to what measure exactly? This guy may not be a technician on the level of Virgil Donati, or Chad Whackerman, but soloing is not the point of being a drummer, that's just icing on the cake. JR baked some of the the greatest cakes the world has ever tasted, and you're all maoning about how he won't let you eat the frosting right out of the jar. lmao, eat your cake, nerds.

    @ Shane Martin - Ah yes you master drummer you! Perhaps you would like to compare resumes with Mr. Robinson? His technique may not be up to your ‘expert’ approval but he gets the big gig calls and HAS been getting the big gig calls for decades - do you? So ok pumpkin, let’s talk again about how terrible his left hand and timing is....DERP.

    I love the story of how he replaced the drum part after the original drummer on George Benson's version of "Beyond the Sea". Everything else was kept and he came in the replace what the other drummer did. That's amazing since it's a big band tune and replacing the drum track means you have to be totally on with the timing and feel. This is why he gets the studio calls... because he's the man!

  • @autodidacticprofessor869

    JR is undeniably a groove master and his solos are interesting and musical. What's really odd is that he plays 100% heel-down with his right leg but when he plays double bass things, he uses his whole leg on the left side. Whatever works and I certain have no credentials to say he's wrong. Not a single person in this comment section who has criticized him, has played on a hit song and I'll bet less than 10% of them have made a dime playing music.
