Pro tip: If you like shooting the F3 from the waist, it's worth investing in the DW-3 wait level finder. These cameras were never meant to be shot without one of the interchangeable finders attached. You'll get dust and debris inside the mechanism and potentially damage the focusing screen (which are delicate and difficult to clean). Plus the DW-3 will make the process easier.
This is a bit late but you can actually get higher angles if you hold the camera upside down over your head and compose looking at the viewfinder. I’ve done this with my Yashica mat and RB67. 😊
I am a Nikon guy, but I can understand that not everyone loves their ui choices. I have an FM, FM2, and F100 in the film world… and the F3 is always tempting, but I love the mechanical nature of my FMs… 🤷♂️👍♥️
Amazing video!!! Your compositions are soooo beautiful ❤ I have a nikon f and I had this problem with darker areas in on side of the photo. In my case, it was because of the cold weather that made my shutter go slower in some shootings, I sent to a technician and a simple lubrification was enough.
Your F3 might need a CLA, or maybe just some more use to free things up (regarding dark part of the frame on a few of your exposures, may be a sticking shutter or something funky going on there). I usually always use my F3 in A (Aperture priority) mode. If I want full manual I’ll use my FM2n or something. The biggest bummer for me with the F3 (though, I still love the camera) is the problematic tiny LCD panel in there that is often either hard to read or they start going bad and deteriorate. Would be cool if Nikon would actually offer a new part/repair for that as there are a lot of them out there on the market. Enjoyed your video! 🙂📷❤️
Yeah I totally agree- I will definitely keep using and testing it. And great tip- I will have to watch out for that on the LCD panel too. And aww thank you so much, and thanks for watching!!
Haha will definitely have to look into that one! Whenever I call a photo camera “heavy” it is always a little tongue-in-cheek- I camera operate for a living and motion/video cameras are no joke haha.
That's a great question- there are so many and it's always changing! But I love Hasselblads, Mamiya 7's/6's, and more recently I've gotten more interested in the Widelux too. What about you!?
I have a Nikon fe2 that my uncle gave me. I think I used it twice but now wanting to use it more ever since I found it has a multiple exposure latch. I always cringe when I see someone using a camera without a camera strap. If you drop it you will not be a happy camper. I use jjc straps . They are the most comortable so far.
I didn't even think about the multiple exposure latch- thanks for reminding me, I will definitely have to test that out next!! And I honestly don't blame you lol I actually just got a camera strap for it a few days ago
I find that what I need is time to get out and shoot... and a photography friend to go with. I do not seem to have any friends that care for cameras and always being alone wears thin .
Wish I could do analog photography but unfortunately it’s becoming very expensive since that every one wants to do analog photography these days And that’s why I use my Fuji camera because it kinda gives me this analog look I always love …
@@femigod well if you want to get a Fuji camera Try the old ones like XE1 or XPro 1 Both are nice and very organic to use But if you want to experiment more with film simulations get a new Fuji model for example XPro 3 or XT5 I use my Fuji cameras a lot and I became obsessed about using Fuji I have Sony cameras and Canon and Nikon but for me Fuji makes me always inspired and hungry for more photography Thank you so much…
Should you want to try some more Nikon action, the Nikon FE has the same light meter as your Canon. It does not support auto focus, that is one of the key differences between the (slightly older) FE and the F3.
Yeah, though, I would skip the original FE and get the newer FE2. Most Nikon F3’s did NOT have auto focus. If you want auto focus really the first pro body Nikon with it was the F4, but if auto focus is your goal (for Nikon anyway as Canon was way ahead sooner with the EF system), I’d go with an F6 or F100.
Do not use the camera with the prism removed. You probably have the best ever viewfinder designed for an SLR in the shape of F3 HP prism. There is no advantage in looking down on the screen unless you are shooting from very low down and even then you would need to put a WLF or a DW4 to achieve focus. You do know that the focuisng screen is removable and can actually come loose and drop out without the prism?
You're thinking about the DW-3, which is the waist level view finder. There is another reason for not taking the view finder off, you get dust on the focus screen, which is not that "easy" to clear as it scratches very very easily.
@@casperghst42 DW-3 is the traditional WLF, DW-4 is the 6X finder that could be used for normal photography, but it is at its best for close up work or working at low down. I have both of them for my F3s. The prive of the DW-3 these days is absolutley ridiculous, though. And absolutley, you can get dust, moisture and all sort of nasties in the camera with the viewfinder removed. The other point is that I really don't understnd how critical focus could be achieved with the fimder removed, unless the operator has Superman eyes.
@@lensman5762 I've also noticed the price, as I'm looking for one. The interesting thing is that the DW-4 can be had for a reasonable amount, but the original DW-3 is too expensive for most people.
What other film cameras would you like to see me review and try out? Let me know in a comment below!
