You should do Kurenai from The Last Live. I think that’s one of their best songs and a completely awesome performance. This particular performance of Week End isn’t one of my favorites either. I wouldn’t really call them “hair metal” tho, aside from the look, they were more in the power metal style. They also went more progressive in the 90’s with Art of Life (this is a 30 minute song) and Dahlia. Yoshiki, the drummer, is actually a classical pianist that happens to play drums pretty well lol th-cam.com/video/3jtXEpMiEPw/w-d-xo.html
This band is literally the forefathers of Japanese rock. They revolutionized the music industry in Japan, they were the first japanese band to fill the 50 thousand seat Tokyo Dome. A metal band that went on to be national treasure to the point that the Japanese prime minister has helped build a museum in memory of their late guitarist. X Japan is to Japan what the Rolling Stones is to America or the Queen to Britain. They have an amazing history, and a very tragic one too. If you are interested, watch the documentary We Are X. It's awesome. It will blow your mind. And I promise, after that you will never again utter the word "hair metal" for this band :)
They were a speed metal band on their first album, a classically influenced thrash one on the second and third and then made a 30 minute long progressive metal song based on an unfinished symphony, then released a straight up progressive metal album. This isn't hair metal. This is what early visual kei aesthetics looked like.
Weekend is a solid song with a great solo but I don't consider it a great introduction to the band. If you want to give them another shot try this: X JAPAN - Stab Me In The Back th-cam.com/video/7lrz0cCokZU/w-d-xo.html
Yes definitely at least listen to some more X-Japan. You have to keep in mind they started in the early 80's and ran until i believe 1997 was when they broke up due to internal strife. But during their run they were the gold standard of metal coming out of Japan at the time. I remember in the late 80's seeing this band plastered in metal magazines. I always wanted to hear them but couldn't because you know, there was no internet back then and finding any albums in a small town USA was near impossible. But when they broke up it ended the golden age of metal in Japan. Metal sells in Japan was in the dumps until Babymetal exploded and practically saved the genre. But it wasn't until, if i remember correctly, one of their band mates died that the remaining members put their bad blood to rest and reunited. Now they are back to doing concerts and have even performed with Babymetal (as Babymetal is huge fans of theirs and you can see countless nods they give them).
they've never performed with babymetal (though they're compilation videos and Su singing art of life would be perfect) and they didn't rejoin cause a member died in was 10 years after Hide died then taiji died 3 years after they regroup they never let Taiji rejoin though they broke up the first time cause Toshi left and joined a cult(he has a book about it) Yoshiki and Hide were looking for a new vocalist when Hide died and after that Yoshiki felt there was no way to continue and was in a depression for many years until around the time he Formed the band S.K.I.N
x japan had the same members from 1987 until 1992 when heath joined, sugizo joined in 2009, there are seven members in x japan, yoshiki, toshi, pata, taiji, hide (pronounced hee day) heath and sugizo, even though hide passed away in 1998 and taiji in 2011, they are still members,
Requesting Rose of Pain live with orchestra th-cam.com/video/mda6wUyzw0c/w-d-xo.html I can't believe no one on TH-cam has reacted to this masterpiece yet.
Yeah, you should fall in love with the drummer... He is in fact, the leader and the face of the band... If you love Japanese hard rock or heavy metal, you are looking at the Godfather of Japanese hard rock, heavy metal and power ballads...
no other band has as many amazing stores as this band i challenge anyone to name them: some awesome stories behind this band like when Yoshiki bought the studio Metallica was recording the black Album at cause they wouldn't let X record there at the same time or when he met Micheal Jackson and Micheal thought the neck brace looked cool and started wearing them sometimes himself and did you know frickin STAN LEE WROTE A COMIC BOOK ABOUT THEM? i hear Yoshiki and Stan have been hanging out pretty regularly since the 80s you can find a ton of pictures and they have more Tokyo dome performances than any other band at 18 with all of them being 2 days in a row on new years eve and new years day which is the most prestigious time but they were banned there in 2009 cause the X jump kept triggering Earthquake alarms and the list of stories goes on and on
The neck brace Yoshiki wore was not because it was "cool". He severely injured his neck headbanging. He had to have surgery and if he was going to continue drumming he had no choice but to wear the neck brace.
The sad truth about our existence, is the slow reaction we have when it comes to a lot of subjects in life, specially all aspects of art. Most of artist have to die to be recognized. We need to understand that we are in front of history, we are able to hear and see history!, X Japan changed the history of what you call metal. Not only in Japan which opened a whole new world to music through the visual kei movement, But they gave a whole new sound and ideas to the rest of the music industry in the world. There sounds and everything about them was so new, that Yoshikis mother sold her antique kimono store and opened her own firm, so they could make music. Xjapan has a very awesome story. And as musicians are truly diamonds. Yoshikis classical Cds sold for around 800 dollars per unit. If you feel a bit interested, We are X the movie can give you a fast track view of what they really are.
hide's whole thing was to look like it's effortless and easy. RIP pink spider \m/. X Japan started it all and actually changed Japan as a whole. Japan was a very "fit in" conservative country before they became big. Kurenai is a great example of how hard they can get. The English nowadays is awesome too
Really love this song especially all the version they play live since the beginning until they break. You will never bored with it. Try react to the version in last life. That version was good too.
the members did not alternate, they had a permanent band, until they had to replace some members due to people leaving then dying, so the lineup had to change over time due to these losses.
Hair metal ?!?! Cinderella, Poison, Twisted Sister etc...is hair metal. THIS is pure musicianship. Classy, progressive, majestic rock/metal in pure awsomness.
Weekend is probably their most hair-metal like song though. I wouldn't call it hair metal in general except for their looks. Maybe that's what's throwing you off. Doubt that if you didn't watch the video but just listened to the song you would immediately call it hair metal. But yeah it's one of their more "happy sounding" songs, though the lyrics are actually pretty dark. X Japan in Asia is pretty much what Michael Jackson is to modern western music. The way Michael not only changed the music industry but also western culture, that is what X Japan did for Asia, mostly Japan. Just like all modern dance and music is rooted in what Michael did, everything you see nowadays that Japan is known for all is rooted in X Japan.
you say upbringing when infact alot of theyre songs are about super depressing topics where theres some they contractually cant play live cause the singer cant handle the emotions they bring back
Yeah weekend which he said is upbringing was actually started with the members imagining the way they would die with 2 of them dieing in the exact same ways and 2 more coming very close on a few occasions pretty much the least upbringing song i can think of lol
in the 80's and early 90's , X Japan had a visual style similar to the Glam Metal bands from the USA . Their music is way better than the music from those bands in my opinion. They are all amazing musicians and play more than one instrument. They have a very dramatic and emotional history. Please read more about them and listen to their songs , don't judge them based on their old look.
If you really love guitar solo, try these 2. Best guitar solo. especially sadistic desire X Japan - Silent Jealousy th-cam.com/video/ECbijSO6iLA/w-d-xo.html X Japan - Sadistic Desire th-cam.com/video/az9nA8pCclI/w-d-xo.html
shows how serious Yoshiki is as soon as he stopped following orders he got kicked out which it was a very important time for the band as they had just went from being relatively unknown crazy people to ruling the Japanese music industry
Yoshiki is friends with KISS so they do have some connection but he is also best friends with Stan Lee and Paul McCartney soo the connection isn't too important calling the founders of visual Kei and the most influential band in Japanese history hair metal you seem to be a fan of kami band so you can appreciate that babymetal and almost every other metal band in Japanese history wouldn't exist without them
Yoshiki has even wrote for babymetal (if you didn't know babymetal doesn't write their own songs themsels they have 50 + composers) so there's another direct influence
x japan is a national treasure in japan.

Their last live in Tokyo dome is a legendary live I have ever seen , I hope you will react this live!!!

It's also funny that Babymetal saved the scene, since they are HEAVILY influenced by X Japan.

2 years late to this reaction. Would Love to see you give X another try with Kurenai from The Last Live.
We are X !
in the earlie days, x japan was considered a speed metal band,
the members did not alternate, they had a permanent band, until they had to replace some members due to people leaving then dying, so the lineup had to change over time due to these losses.
Please do Kurenai from The Last Live!
It is peak hair metal (also not really my thing), but I do like their song Kurenai.
they have classical songs with full orchestras how is that hair metal
?

Please another x japan song-
Sadistic desire 1990
the 1990 version is missing the amazing solo tho, the 1992 and 1993 versions are better.
sadistic desire 1990
th-cam.com/video/PCI5no5Fj2c/w-d-xo.html
the 1992 On The Verge of Destruction is the best IMO it's also the complete song with the solos.
th-cam.com/video/ZpxbnDxObCI/w-d-xo.html
xt73 yeah,exactly.破滅に向かって version is better
that song was about how they envisioned themselves dieing with 2 dieing and 2 others nearly dieing in the exact way they envisioned
how many hair metal bands perform with full orchestratras and play slow melodic songs
you should react to "Art of life". It's a 30 minute-song and it's a masterpiece of X-Japan.
Best song ever
Kindly react to X - Japan - rose of pain 92 live.

they sold out the 55,000 set tokyo dome 18 times
