    So far I'm still loving these crossbars by LFD Off Road. Yes there is some wind noise but it is not horrible at all. I am sure that if I moved them away from the very front of the roof rails then the noise wouldn't be as bad. Updates to come!!

    I hope this video was helpful and that you are able to hear the noise. Keep in mind I have 4 of them up there. You may have different results with fewer or with different placement.

    Here is an easy fix. I installed new cross bars on my Ford Edge which already had rails. The noise was so bad, I could not talk on my car phone. It sounded like I had a jet engine on my roof. I bought black paracord ($5 for 50 ft.) and wrapped it around the bars at about 1 1/2 inch spacings between the spirals. It knocked out 95% of the noise. I just want to let everyone know that this solution is for real and real cheap.

    I initially installed two for a quick job, and the sound I experienced was a high-pitched vibration like a tuning fork in the wind. I installed two bolts and it essentially disappeared. I now have four bars with one more on the way, the front and rear brackets, and wind faring, and there's absolutely no noise.

      @TRDJon  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh like you just installed a few bolts on top??

    I had the same setup. Just added front and rear cargo stops along with the wind fairing. The wind fairing made a huge difference in the noise.

      Will do that when I just do 7/8 for sure!

    Just installed four this weekend and holy crap are they loud in my opinion. I have to turn the volume up while listening to podcasts. I knew I was running the risk of this however when I didn’t purchase the Deflector. I will be ordering the deflector. I’m looking forward to strapping some stuff up there. Install is very easy, hardware that was included is nice. Over all good product

    • @andywenner4807
      @andywenner4807 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sadly, even with the deflector, over 50 mph they are way too loud. Waiting to hear back from LFD other wise, I'm going to have to remove and put the factory rails back on. (the front deflector sits almost on the roof when installed on the factory rails and no additional noise, but on the lfd rails it sits a good 1.5" to 2" above the roof and it just too loud for my tastes)

      @bnctmac 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@andywenner4807 Just push it closer to the right I had mine can you leave it out too far and it was ridiculously loud when he screwed it up as close to the crossbar as possible it’s quiet up to 80 miles an hour

    • @bnctmac
      @bnctmac 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      As Long as you keep the deflector pushed close to the crossbar it’s fine I’ve had mine for almost a year now and I’m happy with it

    I just ordered these so I can mount a rooftop tent on my 4 runner and they said that the turn around time is 4 to 6 weeks.

    The wind noise is mostly due to the shape of the bar, the stock bars are aero dynamic, I've had stock and I've had aftermarket, stock is always quite

    • @wakester912
      @wakester912 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep I can also confirm no wind noise with stock bars

    ###UPDATE The fairing vibration has been silenced with rubber washers one on top, one between fairing & load bar. Problem solved !

    I only purchased 2 to replace the stock crossbars. I've been dragging my feet on installing them but I'll try to get it done tomorrow. I'll let you know if i can hear more wind noise compared to the stock crossbars. My guess is I will since they don't look as aerodinamic as the stock ones.

      Paul Cabrera LFD does sell the wind fairings separately last I checked.

    Installed 3 crossbars and wind fairing. Fairing is vibrating and humming very loudly at 65-70 mph. Gonna try some rubber washers on bolts to try to isolate. Have you tried fairing yet ?

    • @TRDJon

      I have not but everyone who is running it says it works wonders

  • @surf2trails

    Thanks for this as I consider them instead of a full overland rack. Did you eventually install the fairing and did it help? I see you went to the Westcott rack, was that for performance or function or did the LFD not work out? Thanks,

    Hey Jon,
    I wanted to get a roof top tent for the stock roof rack on my 2019 5th gen trd. The Tent is about 130lb and wont fit on the stock rack because of the antenna. Do these cross bars raise over the antenna?

    • @TRDJon
      @TRDJon  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes they do. Also look at LFD off road Instagram. They have a new prototype they are working on.

      They have changed up their rails I think since this video.

  • @fvg6421

    Well, sometimes you just gotta stop adding stuff that may lead to adding more stuff that may comprised the original design. That’s what most ‘mods’ do. The cost and frustration adds little to ‘return on investment’.

    The wind faring you have on your other video looks like it’s built with a cross bar. The LFD website one looks like it’s a bolt on to an existing crossbar. Do you only get your version of the wind faring with the full 7/8 rack purchase? Otherwise, it just comes with the bolt on faring?

    • @TRDJon
      @TRDJon  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The wind fairing has a cross par portion correct

  • @brandonar868

    I don't think moving them around would make much of a difference, unless you put a wind visor on the first one

      Definitely. And it doesn’t cost to much either

    Are the bars higher than the roof antenna ? Any interference with antenna with a paddle board on top?

    • @TRDJon
      @TRDJon  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The antenna is just a tad higher but if you have the pads on the rail for the board then that should be pretty flush with it.
