I've still got the xray spex album but it's a bit worse for ware, the black album I've got is the reissue, just plain black cover not the fancy one, cracking album though, my mate used to DJ for the damned so I got to meet them, captain sensible is a proper nice guy...Dave Vanian not so much 😜 he got my mate sacked in the end over nothing ⚡ he just didn't like the fact that everyone loved Ray coz he would get us in to the punk festivals for free ⚡
Very good finds there, ive got that crass lp on the original small wonders label (quite rare) , if you like that first uk subs lp , the 2nd" one Brand new age "..is even better.
Then they released their 3rd album...Crash Course and I'm assuming that is when they thought it would be a good idea to release an album for every letter of the alphabet 😜
Hi. My favorite Punk band are the Damned. They released the song New Rose in 1976. I loved it. Finally something to sink your teeth in had happened. I still listen to them today and im 64.
“A teabag left on the saucer to dry” 😂😂. I can relate Mike. How does a Canadian press end up at a Leeds record fair? Oh the stories it could tell. Love Magazine. Excellent buys. Cheers.
I have been looking for a OG of that X Ray Spec album, not easy to find in the US. I use to have one, someday it will show up again at a much higher price lol
Television Personalities are afaik not active at the moment. Front man Dan Treacy became seriously ill (Oct 2011) following a brain surgery to remove a blood clot. His current status is unknown, at least to me. Latest (last?) "real" album "A Memory Is Better Than Nothing" (2010) is a beautiful album with subdued, melancholy and absolutely gorgeous songs.
A great punk/post-punk band from Leeds was called "I'm So Hollow" and they had a good album and a really great single called "Dreams To Fill The Vacuum." The single came out on clear vinyl and in a clear plastic sleeve. I have never heard of The Mighty Wah but I would be interested in knowing whether or not I'm So Hollow ever did a Peel Session. I agree that anyone who does not enjoy that UK Subs album might as well say they don't like punk itself.
I don't think I'm So Hollow were from Leeds, I think they were from Sheffield (not far away). If they did a Peel session it doesn't appear to be on vinyl. You really need to listen to Wah! one of the best bands to come out of Liverpool. Cheers Mike
Those Crass records that were 'no more than £2/£2.50' are getting quite collectable aren't they. Some nice picks. I did find that XRay Spex on discogs, it says 2023, unofficial release but EMI!! Maybe someone just bunged it on there, cheers. X-Ray Spex - The Alternative Germ-Free Adolescents Demos Live & Peel Label: EMI - INS 3023 Format: Vinyl, LP, Unofficial Release, Stereo Country: UK & Europe Released: 2023
Hi Mike (Lord Leeds), bit late off the mark with this one, it’s been hectic. Really enjoyed this pick up video. Our tastes are so similar. I picked up that X-ray Spex album in local shop and wasn’t sure what it was and didn’t ask them for some reason. I saw UK Subs a little while ago with Charlie Harper (I think he’s 80!), and he and they were great. I think they played more from that debut than any other album. I also love Stiff and would pick up most things. Also, I have several Peel sessions albums but I’ve never seen anything other than the monochrome. That’s a great pick up and I love Pete Wylie (Sinful, I was hooked on that one). Great video Mike, and the Crass sleeve and record look great condition. Mike
That is a great Crass album. I passed on all the Peel Sessions when they came out in the 80’s. That was a mistake because everything I’ve heard is very good. You couldn’t trust critics in the US when it came to Punk. They all got bad reviews unless it was the arty type of band. Love seeing the singles. A very good batch of records.
Thanks Richie, never trust the critics! I wish I'd bought more of the Peel sessions when they were released. But they're quite easy to pick up at a reasonable price in the UK.
Hello Mike....I showed the X-ray Spex LP on my channel,I picked it up from a seller at Camden market. Not heard The Damned-Black Album for many a year and I've got that UK SUBS LP on blue vinyl. I'll have to take a drive up to Leeds fir the record fair in the new year 👍👍👍
Hello Nick, the last record fair was a really good one. It was pissing down in Leeds all day, so not as many punters as usual. I'd run out of cash before I'd managed to get to all the stalls. You're welcome in Leeds anytime mate👍👍👍👍
I was not familiar with that Damned "Black" album. I love The Mighty Wah! Pete Wylie is great. The late great Josie Jones...I was a fan of her looks. Cool Damned 7" single too!
Hi Mike, cool pick ups. I have never came across this Damned ''Black'' record in any record store or show I have ever been to. Looks like Leeds is a great place for record shopping! Cheers
Hi Romuald, the monthly record fair is always good. The cover of the Damned album wasn't in great condition but the vinyl plays really well. We also have the "vinyl triangle" in the city centre consisting of three great record stores.
G’day Mike, Some fantastic finds mate. I certainly paid more than £2 for my Crass 😂 I’m seeing the Damned next year with Ray Scabies & Paul Gray back in the fold. Very much looking forward to that. I got that same Television Personalities a few years back & the same, not bad but not amazing. Got it in Japan. Which is where I found the UK Subs too. I love it. That X-Ray Spex looks pretty cool. Love seeing some 7”s too. I was so happy when they reissued the Mekons 7” a few years back. Cheers…Ben PS I’ll have to check but I’m pretty sure I only have The Fall, Slits & Birthday Party Peel Sessions.
Hi Ben, I was really pleased to pick up the Crass album and I'm always on the lookout for Peel Sessions at record fairs. Have a Merry Christmas and enjoy the Boxing Day Test. Cheers Mike
@@mikevinylspiral You did really well Mike. If the Perth Test is anything to go by it’s going to be pretty one sided again. Cheers mate & you enjoy your frozen Chrimbo too…Ben
Great finds, it’s always exiting to find records out in the wild versus online shopping. 15quid for a television personalities double LP plus a single sounds like a great deal to me! Cheers

I've got a Canadian pressing Steptoe & Son LP in my Comedy collection. How on earth that ended up over here,I'll never know ???
No idea how that album ended up in Leeds. I nearly always pick up anything I see from Magazine. Cheers Mike

I'm sure you'll find it when you're least expecting to, and at a great price. Have a prosperous New Year, all the best Mike.

Hi there, I didn't know that sad news about Dan Treacy.
Punx Not Dead. Sex Pistols the king' s of punk rock Forever.
It's great to see PIL still recording great music.

Thanks Mike. The Black album is one of their best. I always liked Wah! they were a little different from everybody else.
Crass, Damned, sub par TVP double, Mighty Wah! Peel Session, UK Subs, X Ray Spex bootleg, Magazine and the Mekons. What a superb haul Mike
Hi Mike, I was really pleased with what I came away with.
