when I bought my Volvo V40 T4 new in 1999 ,it was a 1.9l 4 cyl Turbo motor with around 200 hp..a great car but watching BTC ,I always wanted to have a 5 cyl in my V40..so I did..I bought a used V70 and swapped it in my V40 after a full re-build & added a medium size ROTREX supercharger & other goodies ,brakes & suspension..I kept it very 'sleeper' like and feel it"s the engine that should have been installed in the first place..!!..traction can be sketchy on 17" if other than sticky TOYO but overall ,it is a fun ,fast & comfy car ..still to this day.
The car is actually a 1999 car, which can be seen on the cutaway front fenders, but the livery is from 1998, which was the year Rickard Rydell won the BTCC in an S40. The engine is a a 2 liter naturally aspirated 5 cylinder, whit 300 + hp and a revlimit of 8500 rpm :)
After doing some digging around via SuperTouring register it turns out that this is a 1998 BTCC chassis which then went on to be used in the 1999 STCC. That might explain why it has some 1999 appearance.
fontheking5 Yeah by the sounds of it that’s what’s happened. I’d imagine it’s current owner has just got it back to running order using the original parts available.
This and the Mondeo were absolute beasts in the sound department! I'd like to do another video if given the opportunity now I have better recording equipment.
Ausome video!..... those were the most memorably days of watching racing Tin tops it was a golden eara brilliant video & sound & to Jase & the boys for keeping the dream alive!.... so good to see & hear them instead of them being in a showroom!...

fontheking5 A bit of a hybrid in terms of its chassis and livery then!
I love the 5 cylinder sound, for me it’s the best of the BTCC Supertourers!

Ok, the cutaway front fenders, was only used on the S40:s that was built for 1999, but it might have been modified with these afterwards.

Unless of course these were the modifications made to it for the 1999 STCC season?
here is one sound track that will love forever.
I'm a huge fan of Volvo and this S40 is my favourite tin top racer of all time
the sound goes right through my body when it flies past ! and i'm just sat here in front of a pc...

Absolutely fabulous car
Really is! The 5 cylinder sounds beautiful. Hopefully get to see it running again in the not too distant future! 🤞
@@MWRaceRally I was lucky to see the Volvo s40 in 1999 at oulton park btcc for the first time
Yeah I saw it race back in 1998 and 1999 when I was only 11 years old!
I feel lucky to have seen such amazing cars race!
@@MWRaceRally I was 10 when I saw the Volvo and nice to see it run
That radiator setup is dope.
Shit sounds good as hell
Best sounding Supertouring car IMO.
Thank you!!!
That’s the kind of style I like on cars i believe it takes talent to make em look so good and sporty

Regardless of what year the car is, what a sound. My god!! 😍
Such an epic wail from the 5 cylinders! 😵
"everybody dance now!!!" casually playing in the garage 😂
カッコいいーーー😍😍😍😍😍
たまんないすねBTCC❣️

1995~1996❗️
I love Volvo S40. ❤
S40 is awesome man
my first car s40 1996 brings back memories
Awesome:)
Nice job. I was there this weekend too. Shame the car didnt race on the Sunday.
That really is a shame, do you know what the issue is?
Good job I got plenty of footage on my visit there yesterday!
How's they do those fenders so good?
A road version with this engine would have been incredible... even with a watered down version of the engine & aero etc
its the same 20 valve 2.0 NA engine from an 850 Just tuned a hell of a lot :D and with 5 ITBS :D
The 4 cylinder is
Who knew that a musical instrument could power a car?
Where can i get those cutaway front fenders tho? So so aggressive looking thing
Nice bit of kit. Great circuit too, any incar footage?
bring back the super tourers!
I still have my Volvo V40, it's a really nice car but it is such a shme they never released them with this colour scheme as this car is gorgeous.
Still to this day, don't understand why they asked Jason to stand on the car. Was so bizarre
First track action is knockhill
His interior is different than mine
Shame the road cars had a Japanese engine and a Renault gearbox 😂😂
Except the T4s they had the M56 Gearbox ( volvo ) :D
Road versions have volvo engines too (except 1.8i GDI and diesel ones). And turbo versions (and some N/A ones) have legendary m56 gearbox.
Only the 1.8 i engine was from Mitsubishi ,the other petrol engines were made by volvo, by cutting off one cylinder from the 5 cylinder 850 engines.
N/A shitboxes have renault gearboxes, turbos are all volvo
they should improve it by putting a much bigger GT-wing and boost the engine up to 400HP
You should look up the rules and regulations of the BTCC for this time before commenting 😂
They couldnt run a run a Turbo back then lmao
