My father was heavily involved with the creation and racing of this car. Mike Briggs was a great driver, truly talented! Awesome to see it in such beautiful condition!

This car was driven by a legend in South Africa. But the crazy part is South Africa had a even more legendary Opel Kadett GSi 16V S( homologation special)
@@MLC... i do not know why all this time i thought it was the Spiess engine, reverse head swindon is stunning, either was a dream engine when i had a corsa utility, i would still love to build one and a kadett e seam welded, street machine with full interior. singer esq, more like what if workshop 5001 or canepa built a kadett e. in black superboss look with center lock ronals. ala dtm. one day is one day
Vauhall dropped the belomt name for the saloon astra after the mk2 . They where just all astras just saloon hatch estate or convertible. But not sure being an opel if it's a kadett or not tho .
I was thinking that it was an Astra Belmont but as mentioned, the Belmont name was dropped from the mk3 model. The Belmont was Vauxhall's answer to the Ford Orion which was of course an Escort without a hatchback. I don't think this particular Astra ever raced in BTCC, the Cavalier had the advantage of running FWD, RWD or 4WD.
@@WhiskeyGulf71 Vauxhall raced the Cavalier in UK while in South Africa the Opel Astra was raced. In Portugal the Astra F was raced as well, by Ni Amorim I think. See this for high quality first race of the Astra in SA: th-cam.com/video/jyRodCkEiS8/w-d-xo.html

@@joshmarques-r8y it's really looked after well by the guys at Irmler Motorsport, one of the best presented SuperTourers I've seen in recent years!
Fantastic to see this Opel again. Saw it racing in South Africa at Kyalami and Zwartkops. Briggs was a formiddable driver.
John Cleland aint too shabby either :)
@@Fantic1980 when and wear did cleland race this car
@@jaz2791 he raced in the late 90s BTCC in a Cavalier and then Vectra. Always known him to race for Vauxhall.
Cleland shared the car with Mike Briggs in the 1994 International Touring Car Challenge at Kyalami 👍
@@MWRaceRally Correct. The race might be available on TH-cam somewhere. Worth a search. Cleland was a guest driver.
Beautiful! 🥹❤

how many HP? 270-300?
No details were given but I'd expect somewhere around there yeah.
What's the motor setup en power figures?

Astra Belmont or a Cavalier?
The silver one is a South African Astra 200IE...
