    As someone who has 200+ hours in this game but still wants to learn more without watching 2hr+ playthroughs, these videos are perfect. Quick and gets straight to the point, good job

    Worth mentioning, the tech flanking bonus gotten ONLY from mil tech is called "maneuver_value" in the code and affects all units, whereas bonuses from any other modifiers in game are called "cavalry_flanking" and as the name implies, affect only cavalry units.
    IMPORTANT: these 2 modifiers scale multiplicatively with each other, so if you have tech 10, +25% "maneuver_value", your cavalry range goes up to 2.5, rounding down to 2, however if you had +100% "cavalry_flanking" bonus, it'd go up to 5, whereas if it scaled additively, it'd have gone up to 4.5 rounding down to 4. That just means that cavalry flanking bonuses become better with tech.

      Honestly, flanking is just hilarious when it gets to high values. In a Holy Horde game a while back, I had cav with a flanking range of 7 or 8 IIRC. While there were some cases where I lost a battle or two at full width, anything less than that steamrolls hard because all that cavalry can hit units well into the center and decimate them. Even at half or a quarter strength, they still can usually hit something.

      Yeah it should be but all the way back even into eu3 people would win battles and then detach cav to stackwipe armies, as cav speed allowed you to keep up shattered speed

    Currently playing Lan Xang with Aristocratic ideas and going full elephant stacks. With their ideas, missions and the new cavalry military government reform you can get 100 ratio. Let’s just say currently India goes squish. In the shock phase at least :D.

    Yeah but what about Poland/Lithuania/Commonwealth or even Siam? They get crazy bonuses to cav too. Wouldn’t they also be worth going more into cav?

    You can make them plenty viable just stacking a few bonuses from stuff like quality and aristocratic ideas. Lower the cost to almost the same while buffing the damage like crazy. cav can get insanely strong and is usually worth it as long as you have the money.

    • @Skrymaster
      @Skrymaster ปีที่แล้ว

      In my opinion cav's always good early, up to 4 which is the maximum cav units that can participate in combat. The maintenance costs aren't that big a deal, if you're constantly at war and park them on enemy land, their looting almost makes them cost the same as maintaining infantry.
      The only times when I truly consider disbanding my existing cavalry is when I don't see any chance of myself going to war in the next ~4 years or if I'm more concerned about filling combat width vs larger opponent, or fighting full combat width countries later in game, otherwise I'm wasting 1k manpower and the time + money it cost to get them. If you're planning to declare a war while over forcelimit, you could at least use them in the first battle and then disband them afterwards.
      I stop using cavalry past tech 13 mil when I start using full cannon backrows and the AI mostly has full front rows.
      If you're playing a country that's got cavalry bonuses, you're a horde or you also pick aristocratic, you can very well use a good portion of your army width as cavalry to give your frontline more punch, but vs AI that's not really necessary most of the time, cheaper and simpler to just use infantry.

    • @plebisMaximus
      @plebisMaximus ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Skrymaster It's not necessary, but it is fun. You crack their lines in record time and get to see them try to fill it up with cannons.

    they are super great in multiplayer imo. Because they make the opponent panic when they don't get the desired result from the battles. Some guys are unable to tell that the casualties are due to my high cav and they think that i have some crazy army buffs. Even a slightly favourable peace deal can tip the balance in mp

  • @afridge8608
    @afridge8608 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    New russia also gets alot of cav bonuses btw. 95% cav inf ratio 80% cav cost which make it cost half than infantry and tons of cav combat ability. If you wanna go super crazy form russia as oirat. That way you can grab horde ideas and get 100% cav armies with tons of cav combat. I think i reached 100% cav combat in my run

    Can you maybe make a video on cannons/artillery? Idk really how to use them aside from adding 3-5 to an army post 1490 to blast through forts

    • @1tsbag134
      @1tsbag134 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think they are really good with fire damage obviously but apart from that they have artillery combat ability and they are placed from the back of the line. They are better to spam in endgame where they deal more damage than infantry does

    • @Peachrocks5
      @Peachrocks5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Artillery starts to be useful in combat around tech 13 and becomes essential tech 16 and onwards.

    You said cav isn't worth it outside certain types of nations, which is the only correct answer. Subbed. So, newer players, don't have 6 or 8 cav in your typical French army. Enjoy the savings. Get an ice cream.

  • @geometrix236
    @geometrix236 ปีที่แล้ว

    does it matter how much you pass the cav to inf ratio.for example your cav to inf is %75,does it give the same amount of penalty for %80 and %100,or %80 would be more advantageous compared to %100

    How does the overall fire damage increase late gameaffect the use of cavalry in the same period? Especially since fire phase occurs before shock phase, would cavalry be too whittled down to be of any threat to the opponent in the shock phase?

    • @alb3598
      @alb3598 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, a disciplined infantry and cannon army with high fire will beat the crap out of any high shock full cav army lategame, cavalry also costs a ton more than infantry
